Hi guys!

I have recently taken up the raw food lifestyle, and think that I've made a wise choice. I have not started this new diet in order to lose weight, but rather for long-term benefits - and because it's something I'm doing for just me and no one else!

I have noticed quite a few things over the years about my body's deterioration, and I've never felt like I was getting older until a few years ago. And I'm only 23. Yes, you may laugh. However, I was on the birth control shot, Depo-Provera, for about 5 years, and was told to immediately get off of it after they discovered I had osteoperosis. Once off the shot, my body went through a number of changes, "detoxing side effects" as I called them, including: severe depression, acne, weight gain (around 30 pounds in one year), brittle hair, little or no periods, severe cramping, among other things. And I came down with a severe flu THREE TIMES within the last 6 months. Something had to change. And then I found the raw food diet.

So here I am, at the end of week one. Looking forward to what lies ahead. When I tell people that I'm on this new plan for my eating habits, they usually look at me like I have 3 heads. Then I proceed to tell them the philosophy, the common sense behind it, and the benefits, and they begin to ask more and more questions - wondering if they have it in them to make this life change, too. I'm tired of relying on processed food, coffee, and ibuprofen. Can't wait to see what this choice will do for me in the coming weeks!

So if you have any suggestions for this novice raw foodist - things you wish you were told when you first started - please send them to me! I would greatly appreciate the information and support!:)

Welcome Tahoe Cutie Pie!

I just wanted to say hello, and to congratulate you for beginning this wonderful healing journey. It will be one that I know you will find rewarding.

My advice:
Take It One Day at a Time

And if you do ever partake of cooked food, don't beat yourself up, just climb back onto the Living on Live Food Path.

Be good to yourself. Nutritious Live Food, as you well know, is all the medicine you will ever need!

Many Blessings to you and have fun!

Hi TahoeCutiePie,
There's a book called "Dying to get well", that the author went through very the same thing as you but with much more servere effects and she went to raw foods in order to heal herself.
Have you picked up Alissa's book yet? It's really informative and easy to read.
Don't be to concerned with what other people say or how they look at you when you mention raw foods.
Make sure that your happy about it and that you feel comfortable, take it one day at a time just like what soulstar said.
Welcome to the group:D

Welcome! I agree with Path301! Once folks see your glow, you won't have to explain to them.

Thanks for the warm welcome and encouragement! I am still reading Alissa's book, about 3/4 done....absolutely love this woman and how she put this book together. I've been raw for almost a week, and am starting to notice the change....I wish I could hug Alissa for writing this book, and thank the gods for it bringing it into my life! ;)

Baby steps at the moment, trying to just get the food combining down - that can be a little confusing. But I must admit, not having to count calories, eat what the Earth has given us, and feeling spiritually and mentally healthy is unlike any diet I've ever tried. Why don't more people conquer the raw world??!! It's strange how I now smirk to myself when I see commercials about drinking things like Ensure to get all your vitamins and minerals, and then end the day with a balanced dinner (i.e. the 3 main food groups). How is it that we have all been so blind to what we are told? I hope that I can convince those that I love to convert to this lifestyle, especially those who need it most.

Have a great Thursday all!
