oh yea , get down stevie ! i saw her here in detroit in the late 80's , totally mellow concert = totally girlie girl stuff . too mellow for the ex beer guzzling type i was . but on apple juice she rocks ;)
" youuuuuu , you make fasting fun " :)"
this got me to wondering what music/audio recordings help you all keep things Raw, Real and Healthy, and Strong? Is there anything that you put on when you feel you need a boost, a song that is a "battle cry," or a "musical hug" lol...;)
I like Leonard Cohen, especially his "Dance me to the end of Love" and I listen to a lot of Tracy Chapman..I like the combo. of militancy and tenderness..hmm.. and and enjoy Josh Groban..esp. singing "You Raise me up." Although it is not music, I also listen to Eckhart Tolle on CD, reading " A New Earth," "Stillness Speaks," and " The Power of Now."
I can't wait to read what you all are listening to!!!!!
Thanks!!!:D

Night Song is one of the most beautiful albums. It mixes Nusrats legendary voice with some very soothing down tempo electronic music in the style of Peter Gabriels label. Actually, I believe the collaborator is Michael Brooks. Tht's my fave..and his record MustMust is a core piece of my music collection.
I love Peter Gabriel's "up" record..and pretty much anything he's made.
I am also a HUGE fan of tibetan Singing Bowls for chilling out...I like Thea Surasu's "Singing Bowls of Shangri -La" I use it alot in hypno sessions, coz it knocks people right OUT.
If you want modern, down temp, earthy and sexy, I can't recommend Gabrielle Roth's 'Still Chillin" highly enough. That's an awesome yoga, or date night record. :D
(Ha ha, I said "record" no one listens to those spinning discs anymore. My little nephew looks at me funny when I use that word, and says' Don'tcha mean CD's?? What's a record???" I feel like I am 100 years old when he says that!)

DEATH METAL!
Nothing makes you more serene and peaceful than some angry young man music.
Seriously though here's some of my favorite "Raw Friendly" music (mostly Ambient with a few exceptions):
Dead Can Dance, or anything by Lisa Gerrard for that matter (unclassifiable)
Robert Rich (Ambient)
Phil Thornton (NewAge/Ambient/World hybrid)
David Hykes (NewAge/Spiritual/that weird unearthly Tuva harmonic singing)
Andy McKee or Michael Hedges (for my Acoustic guitar fix)
Michael Gettel or George Winston (for my Piano fix)
Astral Projection (Old School Trance for when I need to be pumped)
Shpongle (For when I need some trippy drug music)
Boards of Canada (for when I need that "fresh" electronic sound)
I could go on forever so I'll just stop.
EDIT>> YIKES! How the heck could I forget Sufjan Stevens. Absolutely Raw power for me. He's of the new unclassifiable "hip" folk kinda genre. You owe it to yourself to check him out.

Oh! This reminds me of a similar thread I was gonna start last night, and am about to go start now ;)
Well, he's already been mentioned but Peter Gabriel. Anything by him, but for uplifting - In Your Eyes, Sledgehammer, Big Time, Steam, Solsbury Hill.... and for mellow chilling, San Jacinto, Floating Dogs, We Do What We're Told. And for very very special occasions, when I am on my own and only when I absolutely need to, Mercy Street (hence the username). My favourite song - listening to it is a very intense thing for me.
Then, of course, for jumping around to - Soundgarden's Superunknown album, Metallica's Black album and pretty much any Led Zeppelin :D
I listen to Orbitals' 'Work' album when I need a shot of energy to do housework or something, and pretty much anything by Massive Attack and Faithless.
Others among my favourites for chilling alone time are Kate Bush, 'Rockets Tail', 'The Fog' and 'Never be mine' and anything by Pink Floyd....
And two really good happy uplifting fasting albums are Sound by Dreadzone and Paul Oakenfold Global Underground New York 1997.
Can you tell I listen to a lot of music?? :p

Well so far anything sexy and uplifting! I've been feeling oddly... more sexual now that I'm fasting (I think it's cuz I was running really low in that department for like 7 months and now it's free... lol I dunno, I just feel sexy and fun and happy, maybe it's beucuz I am detoxing the rest of the birth control I was on and now am free of).
Maneater & Promiscuous girl from Nelly Furtado (OMG!!!! Only 2 more days till I get to see her in concert!!! My very first concert too, sooooooooo excited!!)
Buttons & I Don't Need A Man - Pussycat Dolls
Ooh la la & Ride A White Horse - Goldfrapp
Wicked Little Girls - Esthero
We & I'm In Love With You - Joy Williams
And my fave is anything from Aaliyah (r.i.p. Aaliyah)
