Hi!
I don't post often, but I read here a lot and have a question about Cherimoyas...how do you know when they're ripe? I found one today at market along with an Ugli fruit. If anyone has ideas about these I'd love to learn!
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and post - have a lovely day!

As far as I know/experienced they should be a little soft on the outside, also colouring a little towards black. They taste like vanilla and are very nice..

Hi Pearlgirl,

It'll be ready when it is soft like avocado(maybe just a bit softer). It is sooooo delicious. Enjoy!

Where's a good place to buy cherimoyas? I've looked at my Asian market and haven't had any luck...

I've picked them up a the local grogercy chain stores. They have a pungent smell to them but the "meat" inside tastes nothing like the smell. The taste for me , is a cross between pineaple and coconut. Very good.
They should be soft to the touch when ripe.

I saw some at WF today...I would have grabbed it, but I'm on a cleanse and not allowed sugar of ANY kind...damn candida and parasites...BUT I got some thai baby coconuts instead yippie! I've never been able to find these b4! How long can they keep? Do I refridgerate? Freeze? Keep em on the counter?

Damzl,

I put my coconuts in the fridge. Keep an eye on them for mold and soft bottoms. I've had mine in there for 2 weeks before.

Also, I went on raw and got rid of my candida without giving up fruits. It's the processed sugars and flours and stuff that really cause candida to flare. And believe me, I know a little too much about it. :(

Awesome thanks! ya the cleanse is more for the parasites. I had a colonic last week and they found some little buggers...ewwwwww. But I've been getting that sugar craving again so this will take care of both issues. I'm 1/2 way done now - only 11 more days to go...then i'm eating every date i have in this house...about 4 lbs hahaha :D

I found my Cherimoya at Whole Foods and have seen them at Earthfare too. Other than that, I'm not sure where to go...but I live in a more rural part of NC and drive to larger towns to food shop. Maybe they would be in ethnic markets too? Good luck!
