View Full Version : Brazilian Husband, Kids getting into the raw thing!!!

I have posted about various struggles with my husband and his even worse than SAD red meat etc. diet...

WELL, the last two days in a row, he has wanted to have a green smoothie with me in the morning. Yesterday at dinner, he said he was having dinner with me instead of the kids! And he made it! He wants to make one of Alissa's recipes for dinner tonight! (He watched the DVD before I did!)

The kids had a big cooked dinner with a smaller raw salad. About half an hour to an hour after eating this huge dinner, Carlinhos (he's 7) was hungry. Carlos fussed at him for being hungry, thought he wanted some chocolate or something. I said, "Oh, Carlos (gently), what do you expect? Most of the food he ate was dead and didn't nourish his body. It's not his fault." I asked Carlinhos if he wanted a green smoothie, he got excited. We made it together, he helped me pick stuff out... We did kale, banana and orange together. He was asking about kale, and I asked him if he knew who popeye was. He couldn't remember, but then I told him it was sort of like the spinach popeye eats. And then I was going to explain who popeye is, but then, the light bulb went off and Carlinhos said "ooooohhh, he's the guy who eats the spinach, then his arm is like this (pointed to his bicep, then used the other hand to show that it was huge.)... I said yeah, yeah. That's the guy. By this time, Yan (he's 12) came around. We split the smoothie 3 ways, and the kids LOVED it.

That was about 7pm, and Carlinhos didn't ask for food again last night (we were reading and playing some games, went to bed a little late around 10).

And Carlos has been asking me all these questions left and right about raw. He's starting to say it makes sense instead of making fun of me! And this morning, we were talking, and he says, out of the blue, "Your face! The pimple patch is almost gone!" (That what I coined it! I've had this whole area of about 20-30 pimples that hang out and breed on one side of my face. They alternate between who wants to be the scar for the week and who wants to be active. This is the first time in my life I had a problem like this for so long, about/at least for the last year.) And it's true, even the scars are starting to go away because my skin is regenerating itself so quickly.

And I've been sooo much less grumpy. And he's noticing all of these things. He actually told me this morning that he thinks he might do this with me!!!

AND my mom was asking me questions on the phone last night! :)

WOW, this is so exciting! Anyhow, just thought I'd share. :D

EvaRB - that is very cool! Raw IS good food. No ifs ands or buts. RAW IS GOOD FOOD!
Why wouldn't it be? I guess because we are so conditioned (brainwashed?) that if it isn't packaged in plastic, zapped of all flavors, but then shot up with artificial flavors, food can't be good. I mean an apple? Good? Mushrooms? Good? Well, duh - yeah! RAW IS GOOD FOOD!!!
My mouth smiles everytime I eat something...

Congratulations! Sounds like your hubby is one smart guy. If DH is on board, then the rest of the crew will follow!
What meal will you prepare them? Keep it simple. I think my DH's favorite raw thing to eat is just a large salad....it's like real food. NOW, MY DH is not raw, but just saying. A salad with maybe another entree??? If you could start sprouting the buckwheat, I thought Alissa's calzone is out of this world!! (but it might take a couple of days for it to be ready to eat) Good luck. Let us know how it goes!!!

That's awesome, EvaRB! My DH is going raw with me and it is soooo nice to have him along for the journey.

How Truly wonderful to hear your exciting developments with your family and especially husband, being turned onto Living Foods!, EvaRB
I loved reading your story about your husband's progressive openness and interest in raw foods! What a blessing!
And What a nice movement forward for the whole family! It's great that your children loved the green smoothie, too! Aweseome! It certainly will make it that much more fun if all of you partake of some of your meals together!

My partner is into salads, which is great, but he draws the line at my daily staple, green smoothies! LOL:D Maybe, one day he'll be brave enough to open up to it.

Let us know how things continue to evolve. We're all cheering for you!

Adios,

I made a lovely guac for lunch to dip carrots and cucumbers in, and I wasn't going to eat until the hubby came back home. I told him it was there if he wanted it, and lo and behold, he made a wonderful salad for us:

food-processor-thin sliced cucumbers
'' carrots
a bunch of kale
guac for dressing (as follows)

The guac was not the usual!
2 tomatoes
1 wonderfully ripe avocado
1/3 red onion
some fresh garlic
some fresh ginger (I was inspired by the pain-free post :))
1/2 head of broccoli!

Mmm, mmm good!

Vegan: I agree! Food is sooo good these days. I love how my body feels and how my taste buds are starting to feel so alive!

Tville: My husband will likely make the dinner! He loves to cook, and apparently also to chop and prepare without cooking... He saw Alissa's DVD, and he really wants to make the fettucini the way she does, so that is a likely one for dinner tonight! We'll see.

I really hope that he keeps up with this, and doesn't change his mind. I just know his extra 30 pounds will melt off him and that he'll have more energy; he's only been watching me for two weeks, and I'm already doing so much better. I know I won't turn back, and I hope he won't either. Mind you, he hasn't made "the" commitment yet, he's just opening up to it all!

Thanks for cheering us on, everyone!
