Are larabars good to eat during the transition? I know that they are supposed to be raw, but if I eat 1 or 2 a day is that a good way to feel full? I suspect that after a while I'll feel full without something so heavy. When I say full I mean not starving and lightheaded. I have a 5 month old who is always in my arms and preparing food is a trick for me. What else is quick and easy to grab with one hand. I rarely get to sit unless we are nursing so I usually only have one hand to eat with. Thanks! The only time I stray is when I'm starving and can't think of anything quick to satisfy.

Hi Cinnamongirl,
Welcome!
If you enjoy Larabars, 1-2 a day seem to be fine. My favorite flavor is Cherry Pie. :p
Larabars are mostly raw. Apparently the cocoa they use may not be raw. Many folks here have used LaraBars for transitioning, and have felt fine. Some still keep them in their glove compartments or purses so they have something in a pinch if they get hungry at work, or while out and about.
There are also other energy bars ome have found in their local Walmart called Think Organic!, that are also raw. Tvillemom says she likes them better than Larabars, apparently.
Do you keep a bowl of fruit around? A banana, or other easy to eat fruit may also do in a pinch when you need to eat while nursing, and only have one hand.
My other suggestion is if you have a dehydrator, to try to experiment making some raw treats out of Alissa's wonderful book. Then you'll have some of your own raw creations on hand to grab while nursing.
Best of luck, and have a wonderful Lliving on live foods journey,:)

I make green smoothies all the time with a baby in my arms. :D They are a great way to get concentrated calories in.
Fresh fruit is very easy to eat. I would often take a bunch or two (bunches :D ) and sit and eat as many as I needed while nursing. Talk about an easy lunch. This has been the easiest way to eat while nursing.
With my other three children I always had cold meals because the babies always wanted to nurse right when I sat down to eat. Now I don't have to worry about hot meals. :p
When you get a couple of minutes there are lots of easy things to make. RP Brownies take me about two minutes total and are so good. Alissa's mock salmon pate takes me about three minutes to make. You can easily sit down while nursing with a bowl of that and carrot sticks to dip it in. Or put some in a lettuce leaf and roll it up and put it on a plate.
A lot of it is just making a mental shift. Trying to think out of the box when it comes to eating insteadind of thinking of a regular full meal.
Good luck!
If Lara Bars work for you there is nothing wrong with that. If you have a costco near you they sell them by the box there for $18.00. My new favorite is peacan pie. I also like lemon. The majority of them are all raw. Only a couple are not. Best Wishes!

Do you have a sling or carrier that you can use while you make food? If you are nursing, I'd suggest eating as much fruit as possible.

Sharon in Colorado- I'm with you, fruits are wonderful for nursing mothers, as are green smoothies, or any smoothie, for that matter
Best of luck!

Thanks for all the quick replies! My daughter does not like being in a sling these days, she's all about being in her mama's arms. I drink a few smoothies a day and eat as much fruit as possible. I ordered Allissa's book and will try to make some stuff on the weekend when my husband can take my daughter for a walk in the stroller, she'll only tolerate being away from me for minutes right now, which is fine because I'm just as attached to her!! I'm going to get some Larabars to keep around when I need a calorie burst. Also Walmart is a yucky corporate giant overtaking ma & pop stores across the nation!! Walmart is trying to come to our area and we are protesting it!! No offense.

No Offense Taken! I live in an area of the US that is the total and absolute boondocks, with a very small local population, and very few local businesses. I live along the Canadian Border. The Walmart is basically one of the few businesses in this area where I can buy ANYTHING!
In areas, where there are thriving local mom and pop and other businesses to choose from, folks are blessed to choose from them!!
I only wish I were so fortunate!;)
