I have seen coconut milk "pure" for sale online... the ingredients saw nothing but 100% pure coconut milk. What about shipping and preserving? Has anyone had any luck with this? I understand if it doesnt say raw then it mostly isnt but wanted some insight, thanks.

Do you mean Zico brand coconut water? If so, I tried it and found that it had a faintly foul odor upon opening of the carton. I opened several. I contacted the company and they said that it is natural to have that smell, but it concerned me and I didn't want to drink it. They said they would send me replacements from the most recently produced batch, but they never did. But....this may not be at all what you are referring to :)

I started buying Vita Cocos at our local organic market (Metropolitan Market in Seattle) and really enjoy it, but I've calculated that you can save a whole lot of money by buying young coconuts and opening them up. It takes more effort but you get a LOT more coconut water out of a young coconut and for even less (2 young coconuts for $3, while each Vita Coco is $1.99).
I'm starting to really like the taste of coconut water! It's delicious!

Yup - I used young coconut alot alot alot when I was starting out. I like the milk in the can but it has sugar added and is processed of course. There are a whole array of preservatives, color stabilisers, stuff that keeps it from separating - and the FDA does not require these chemicals to be listed. You are right to go fresh.
