Hello everyone, my name is Marcia and I am 62 years old and am married for 7years to the love of my life, who is 56 years old. We live in Western Massachusetts. I am blessed to be a homemaker. I love music, chanting and dancing and my husband is a massage therapist and teacher of massage working at a large Yoga Center. He loves gardening and music and is learning to dance too. A friend of ours turned us on to the Green Smoothie (that is the only change we have made to our diet so far) 3 weeks ago and we LOVE it. Finding the green smoothie is like a dream come true. We crave it and have it for breakfast and usually in the afternoon as well. I have been using my blender to do this, but I don't think I'm going to be able to do that much longer (today when I made my breakfast smoothie, it showed some signs of being overworked......don't yet know how to insert the frown icon). I can't even imagine going one day without my smoothie!!! Now for the question I have about the Vita Mix, which I want to order asap. Do I really need the dry blade for dry grains? Do you use it for anything in your raw food preparations? I'm thinking about getting the 64 oz container with wet blade, and the 32 oz. container with wet blade. I have been reading the posts for the last three weeks going clear back to the beggining of the recipe forum and I have learned a lot. I can see that the creativity on this forum is in abundance. Thank you so much for your willingness to share with us all. This is a very exciting journey!

Welcome! I have the VM 4500 (I believe the model number). I don't have a dry/wet blade, just the one it came with and I love it. I use it at minimum 2 x daily! I would be lost w/out it.
You'll do great!
Happy raw journey to you!

Welcome, Marcia!

I am so happy that you have been turned onto Raw Foods and Green Smothies.
I , too, am a huge fan of Green Smoothies!

I only use a wet blade that came with my 4500 Vita Mix. I love the Vita Mix! I sometimes make a chunkier smoothie in my food processor for a change of pace, too!:p

Have fun on your journey into the world of more and more Living Foods!
I know you will enjoy it, as much as we do.

Look forward to seeing more of you!:)

Blessings,

Elena aka Soulstar

First, I would like to Congratulate you on Snatching up that Young Man....You RAWK.......

I just recieved mail from Vita-Mix last week and of course I have thrown it out now but it did have a package with the 5000. They have 3 colors, white, black and red. They also have the 2 cantainers, wet and dry.

They also sell refurbished ones. Try Vitamix.com and see what you come up with. It sold for over $500-

I have the 5000 with the 2 containers...I have always had a VitaMix. It is guareented for at least 7 years. You can always call them. I purchased mine at the L. A. County Fair..I shredded my Plunger....Went to the Fair the next year and was given another one.

You can also Google VitaMIX, check out Ebay, even check out our "Search". You can start a Thread, asking if anyone has one for $ale.

I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW.....Welcome to MY World........

I've had a vita-Mixer for some time but the jar that i mix wet ingredients in came apart with use and now i only have the use of the dry container.
My question is until i get another wet container can i use the dry one for making soups and malts"
The only difference is the type of bland it comes with.
Thanks for the help.

Veganforlife, soulstar, spicyfull and Bethanie thank you for responding to my request for help with the Vitamix. I appreciated your taking the time to share your knowledge and experience. And thank you also for all the warm welcomes. I decided on the Compact Super 5000, so I will get the 64 oz. and 32 oz. containers with the wet blades. I liked the idea of having the smaller 32 oz. container as well as the larger one. I figured I wouldn't use the dry blades for grinding grains, etc., so I didn't get that.

Spicyfull, said, "First, I would like to Congratulate you on Snatching up that Young Man....You RAWK......."

I loved the cute way you said that. Sometimes I forget the many ways I RAWK. Thanks for the reminder because "Snatching up that Young Man" was definitely one of them :).

Bethanie, I wish I could answer your question, hopefully someone else will respond.

Blessings,

Marcia

Hi Bethany,
I'm a total newbie & haven't introduced myself, but I may have your answer.

I'm in the same situation- pristine dry container & much abused wet. What I noticed is that the blade sets are a bit different. I'm sure the wet one is optimized for wet.

BUT! The containers themselves are the same. So I was actually planning to swap the blade sets today when I read your msg. (Have to admit I've been using the dry one for wet stuff just fine, but I'm sure the wet one will be better.)

There's a way to pry off the bottoms, using a screwdriver shaft for leverage, I think. I think I saw instructions on their website.

Good luck!

Spicyfull, I read your post this a.m. immediately after getting unsleepy. The affect it had on me? Laughing and smiling. Thank you! Anyway, now for the recipe:

Recipe for Snatching up that YOUNG MAN

50% Divine Timing
50% Paid my dues in a prior relationship (not that this part has to be part of the recipe, it just was for me).

My current husband is so sweet and has a very peaceful energy. We met on the internet on a website for singles called www.concernedsingles.com. He was born in Chicago, but at the time we met he was living in Nova Scotia, Canada, and I in Ohio. I had been divorced in 1982 and this was now late in 1999, so at times it sure didn't seem like another marriage was in the cards. I kept trusting as best I could. We now live in Western Massachusetts. Life is Good!

Blessings,

Marcia

Marcia -

Like that recipe - and the link to the "Concerned Singles" site. Looks like a decent service.

I'm in the Boston area, but lived in Western MA when I was a kid (a million yrs ago). I think it's one of the most beautiful areas around!

Good luck with living the raw life. I'm just coming back to raw after a few months of eating the worst stuff ever. Not 100%, but I'm going at the pace I can handle.

threedogs, aka Lynne, thank you for your post and it's nice to meet you. Yes, it is beautiful here in Western Massachusetts. My husband and I visited Boston about 3 years ago, and although there is a lot to do there, I found it too stimulating for my sensitive nervous system. I hope that settles down, so I can re-visit and explore again at some point.

I like what you said about not being 100% raw yet, but that you are going at the pace you can handle. After being on green smoothies for only 3 weeks today, I can already see things falling away from my diet, and without my forcing anything. I really like that! My husband has had the same experience as me.

Hi laurabfig and thank you for the welcome.

Hey Cilantro, welcome from me too and thanks for reaching out to Bethany!

Thanks for the welcome! I posted a "real" who are you above.
And after taking another look @ my vita-mix containers, it's going to take someone a little more tool-savvy than me, but it can be done!

Love, Sara
