How do you know when a cherimoya is ripe? I found one at a Asian store and it is green and hard which I assume is not ripe but how do you know when to eat the thing??

Thanks y'all :p

Rebecca, I wish I could tell you.... I've been looking for cherimoya with no success. They have a sign for them in Kroger's, but another fruit in the basket.

Cherimoyas are like an avocado, in that they are quick to ripen at room temperature and are ready to eat when they are slightly soft to the touch. Check them frequently to avoid over-ripening. A ripe cherimoya that is not eaten immediately is best stored in the refrigerator. Ripe fruits are black-green and give to slight pressure, like an avocado or peach.

In my experience, cherimoyas are ripe when they are green FLECKED with a little black SOMETIMES, they yield to slight pressure, and they have a sweet fragrance.

YUM! I love those cherimoyas!:D :p
