It's that time of the year......

From the hibernation of winter to the opening blossoms of Spring.

Spring equinox is a few days away and during this time, the liver/gallbladder is most active! Take advantage of this change and reward yourself with the gifts of fasting.

All are welcome to start a new season with more zest and cleansing!

Begining of March 21st 2007 @ 0:007 Universal time!

For those new to fasting and would like general information before starting, here is the link to the Fasting 101 thread

http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=12099&page=5

Info:

March 20, 2007, is a date that most of us recognize as symbolic of changing seasons. As we welcome spring, people south of the equator are actually gearing up for the cooler temperatures of autumn.

What Happens at the Equinox?

Far from being an arbitrary indicator of the changing seasons, March 20 (March 21 in some years) is significant for astronomical reasons. On March 20, 2007, at precisely 8:07 P.M. EDT (March 21, 00:07 Universal Time), the Sun will cross directly over the Earth's equator. This moment is known as the vernal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere. For the Southern Hemisphere, this is the moment of the autumnal equinox.

Equinox Means "Equal Night"

Translated literally, equinox means "equal night." Because the sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are about equal in length all over the world during the equinoxes. A second equinox occurs each year on September 22 or 23; in 2007, it will be on September 23 at 5:51 A.M. EDT (09:51 UT). This date will mark the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere and the vernal equinox in the Southern (vernal denotes "spring").

I would like to try and join! This will be my first fast, I just got my juicer today actually and I'm very excited! I have a couple questions first that maybe someone can answer...

1) How long do people usually fast for in spring? My goal for myself is 30 days.
2) Is it ok to drink Brita filtered water (this filter that goes on my tap) cuz thats all I really have.
3) Any tips to give to a first timer?

Thanks :D

Spring Fever to ya Firicia and I'm happy for you that you have a new life in the making!!!!

Most people in general do a week to two weeks in terms of fasting. Ya know, Brita is better than tap.....so don't feel bad.

Tips? Take it hour by hour......never think in terms of days. Enjoy the cozy "me" time during fasting.........it's FUN to observe all the various bodily changes while fasting..........be aware that detox is serious and honor the changes with care and sensitivity. Blood pressure drops and digestive system is shutting down so go with that rhythm and flow.

I will bump up the Fasting 101 thread for genral outline of detox stages and info sites for ya!

Good Morning MissLinda, and all...

Do any of you go to solstice festivals, and wiccans in our midst??? I had a friend in Chicago who invited me to one before, but I did not go. I wish I could now..lol...
I will have to check and see if there is anything like that going on in this area.

I will be fasting over the equinox..continuing on with my "spring cleaning." ;) I started this morning with my first wheatgrass juice in a long time. Pretty powerful stuff..I could feel it effects almost immediately...

The Baha'i do an annual 19 day, sunrise to sunset fast, beginning on the vernal equinox.

Hmmm

perfect timing

I think I'll henna my hair Tuesday night too and maybe due a pedicure to get my toes ready for spring shoes

Most importanly I'm prepping my palate for the APRIL 30day challenge, getting serious about RAW and organizing my kitchen to make room for new kitchen tools and weekly CSA shares straight from the farm

Oh Ms. linda thanks for the link in your siggy

I will be ordering some goodies the latter part of this week. Those are awesome prices.

How's their shipping time? Will the cellulose bag be enough protection?

misslinda
03-18-2007, 11:06 AM
Hey Lifeagift, me too.....I need to get my hair colored but it'll be too strong for me to withstand while fasting....I love your whole prep description to tackle the NEW YOU!

I know! Their prices are fabulous. They are raw foodists themselves...if you don't see something you want, email them and Drake meets with farmers and searches for the "raw" quality ones..........As soon as payment confirmation is complete, he ships out ASAP, I got mine in 3 or 4 days. The cellulose bags keep them fresh and it came all nicely boxed up--no hassle.

Yummy scrummy deelicious bath and hair stuff. All natural, all handmade - they even have sell-by dates they're so fresh, you have to keep the face masks and such in the fridge. They've got a store here and I got a huge bag of stuff recently because I went in when they were having a special offer day :)

How long is everyone fasting for?

Firicia
03-19-2007, 12:42 AM
Hello again everyone :)

I have another question:D

I have decided to try and up my juice in take before we start. I thought I'd see if I could go all day today and see if any problems come up so that I can figure out solutions before the 21st. Well today was great, until dinner and everyone in my house was having tacos. I am wondering how to say no. It's werid, all of the sudden my roomies were in my buisness becuz I had only had juice all day and they were telling me to eat, and then after I did they started showing me pics of skinny girls (that apparently they are shooting for the next game they are making).

I think I have a hard time living with guys that I feel judged by. Especially when I learned from them that every guy I'm ever in a relationship with will wish I looked different, the only problem apparently is when a guy forces his fantasy on a woman... but apparently I'm not the most attractive and my bf will always have fantasies about me being better they say.... (a real problem I was having with my bf...)

I guess the best way to put it is my self esteem is pretty low right now, and I don't want to give up or give in becuz I'm being told I'll never look the way I want, I want this to be about my health and not what others will apparently think which is that I realised I'm so fat and now I shouldn't eat... people can be so judgemental sometimes...

Gosh I'm sorry this is turning into a confusing rant. How can I stick up for myself, start getting my self esteem back, and deal with all this emotional stuff that says to just give in and eat?

mercystreet
03-19-2007, 08:11 AM
Geez, who are these jerks? Please do NOT listen to this negative tripe from anyone. You need to build your self esteem - you already know that.... it's a shame you have to live with people like this. I don't suppose there's any way of changing your living situation? I'm serious.... guys who speak to women like that are just plain dangerous, don't let them do it to you.

Realise that you ARE beautiful - and that you don't need to have your bones visible from the outside or bags of plastic inserted under your skin to be attractive. There are plenty of guys out there who will love you just the way you are. Deep down you know this. All around you are women of all shapes and sizes being loved and desired by their partners every day. It's true, it's not a fairytale.

These guys are obviously buying into the shallow, vacuous media idea of 'beauty' (which by the way most people with a soul don't find attractive). Do you really want to be attractive to people like that?

(*end rant* :o )

I haven't tried the cherry blossom yet... my favourite at the moment is the Happy Pill, it's a lovely one to uplift your spirits. Butterball is lovely too, I got a special edition Christmas one in the shape of a snowman!

I once bought one that had lilac petals in it, and after I'd had my lovely luxurious lilac-y bath, I spent about 2 hours trying to scrape all the petals off the bath :p

I'm a sucker for the glittery Jasmine one (not sure if they still do it), but it leaves a trail of glitter all over the house, including on b/f and son :D

They discontinued my favourite shampoo - Ibiza Party Shampoo (I love Ibiza), I'm still getting over it :(

I am sorry if this seems over the top , but, I cannot believe it when I hear stuff like this.

That way of thinking of women and treating them as objects is obscene, mysogynistic and ignorant.. ridiculously horrible and cruel. I think that you need to figure out why you would even be with someone who thinks and acts this way. You would be better off alone, focusing your energies on your beautiful, evolving self, and making sure that you are ready for the wonderful relationship that the universe has in store for you!!!:D

Some things to think about. What do you get from this situation? Would you want this kind of "relationship" for your (future) daughter?? Would you want a son of yours to grow up to be like this (these) man(guys)?? Do you want this consciousness in your life..in your mind?? By participating in this situation, are you reproducing that kind of energy and thinking?

take care of yourself.. if you do not do it, no one else will!!;)

*Laughs *

As of this morning, my sister says "I feel strange....the weather or something doesn't feel right......." I told her she said this last year within a day or two of Spring Equinox ;)

Tinystrawberry, you are sooooooooo welcome...it's kinda fun and the "color" therapy portion makes it FUN!

Firicia, in terms of FASTING, we will ALWAYS have something or someone stimulate us to want to eat.....granted your guy friends are BEING mischievou about it and perhaps even distracting you to your GREATNESS......it's like being in a marathon.........if a side spectator yells and calls you names or whatever, are you going to stop? More than likely not b/c yo know what needs to be done..............

Fasting challenges ALL our senses and heighten even on the first day. Myself, the first few dys, I locked myself in the room and slept..........the one I did in April 2006, I literally didn't leave my room for anything other than water/juice--b/c I didn't want that stimulation of FOOD or something to TRIP me.

The question s becomes, are you ready to TAKE CHARGE of your life, you, your self esteem and your goals? For those of us with or have had really really low self esteem, I can guarantee you, even if put in a room with noone or nothing, I would have found a way to think low of myself............

You've got to start somewhere......to be honest, perhaps the guys you are livnig with, was needed delivered by the "universe" to challenge you to GROW in your strength to develop those areas about you and your life..........b/c like "the secret" we cannot change anyone around us, only ourselves. Think and visualize yourself the person you are meant to be and keep that with you every moment........:)

Last thing, my concern, don't make fasting another marker of "failure" Just b/c you don't fast for X days, doesn't make you a failure.......it's a disposition within.

FASTING can be FUN and adventurous...........get interesting glasses, fun cups to JAZZ IT UP!

Rade, welcome and no worries, we will always have more fasting going on by someone! But still, you are more than welcome to gab with us!

Mercystreet, Mmmmmmmm Butterball sounds delicious!!!!

Elizabeth, is right on "if you don't take care of yourself, noone else will"

Fircia, THIS IS YOUR MOMENT..........YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

doesn't being raw feel refining enough?

i fast two or three consecutive meals one day a month...abstain from all food and water, but i just don't understand the point of an extended fast.

mercystreet
03-19-2007, 04:47 PM
Lodestar - Oh you should do one.... it's a feeling like no other. When I'm fasting I get a surge of energy and a clarity of mind that I've never had when eating food, no matter how healthy it was. All of the energy that would normally be expended on digestion is freed up for other things. Also, there's the cleansing. You can detox while on raw but it doesn't go anywhere as deep as when you're fasting. Personally, that's why I do it. :)

Firicia - so there ya go, no more negativity ok? You have all the support you need here... Go Firicia
*waves pom-poms in the air and high kicks*

Firstgarden - the pic of you when you were younger looks so like one of my oldest and dearest friends :)

misslinda
03-19-2007, 05:46 PM
Lodestar, great point and question.....

I can only speak for myself.....

My health issues (mental and physical) had become so intricate and debilitating that my last bite of food, I could not even taste it,just the look of food put my body in a weak state. I had to consider my options......I knew I was very very toxic from decades of abuse of RX and over the counter meds.......I was tired and becoming weaker of my glands being swollen for over a year.....plus other health concerns that were going on but too many to list.

Some can do well and heal by doing shorter fasts and gong back to raw. Myself, I needed to go all the way and give my body the rest it needs from food to concentrate on fully detoxifying and rebuilding........for once,I feel open, lifted up and able in mind body and spirit........there's alot of lil things I do that I was not able to do...........

I don't advocate lengthy fasts and I always remind people "Fasting is at your own discretion" I've even shunned individuals away from fasting b/c of their sole desire for weightloss or history of the yo yo effect.........

At the end, each person will personally decide in light of some of the controversies.

Mikescaefer, did ya make it? :p

Okay, I just want to pop in and say that I'm considering this... a short fast...

I've been tired for almost a month now and I feel like my body is healing and maybe if I do a fast it will speed things up a little...

But it makes me anxious thinking about it... I'll read the links posted when I get a chance and see. I'm concerned about slowing down my metabolism, but I really don't know anything about fasting so I'll read up more... I'm also concerned about having bad detox symptoms.

Ok. Grrrrr. I just lost my over-extended post due to a faulty internet connection. Excellent lesson in something I'm sure :p Non attachment perhaps?

Anyhow. I just want to briefly say hey, I'm joining you all tomorrow.

I wanted to see if anyone could recommend books and websites that they have found wonderful as fasting resources?

I found one book, The Fasting Path: For Spiritual, Emotional, and Physical Healing and Renewal by Stephen Harrod Buhner and I like the FreedomYou site.

I'm going to need a lot of encouragement to beat down my adversaries here.
A few weeks back I did a 5 day Master Cleanse fast and ended it prematurely due to 2 factors:

a) Outside Influences
b) My Tendency to Feel Obligation to Explain Myself & Take On Responsibility for The Feelings of Those Around Me

I do not have a supportive environment and live with hardcore cooked fooders. I need to revamp my life, rekindle my inner fire. It's been 7 long years of medication and the past 4 months have been drug-free. That part is wonderful. But without benzos I started using food.

Should I just pretend I have the flu and shut myself in my room for the first few days, emerging only to make juices with all the produce in my fridge I have to use up? It's good stuff: cucumbers, celery, dandelions, cilantro, lemons, oranges, pineapple, mixed baby greens, ginger, apples and carrots.
After I use these up, I'll move onto water only.

Which leads me to one more important question before I jet. Do you find it helpful to have a set schedule or plan while fasting? Or is it easier for you to just go with the flow?

( I'm going to do up my journal/blog thing too... I like that new setup.)

Anyhow. Thank you in advance, and see y'all tomorrow :)

Hey thanks everyone for the support! I am going to be moving when I can, it might not be for a month or two tho, which is why I feel this fast is important. I want to be in a place thats about me, and where I dont' have SAD foods inturupting my true thinking time or where I want my life to be going and who I want in it. So I guess I'm mostly in it for the spiritual side so I can look at my life different and truly see these guys for whom they really are. I mean I do want to lose some weight and heal my physical pain too, but right now it's mainly about helping myself and discovering what to do with this life transition. I mean even if my fast doesn't last as long as I want, I will just try again when I go to my moms to get set up to move there in late April. So no pressure on me, I am ready, and if I make a mistake I'll just keep going.

Thanks for all the support! I may be coming here a lot for it.

Hello misslinda, I did indeed make it. What does your typical daily juice intake look like? I'd like to know what is the best juice/blends to make during the fast. I'd also like to start on it immediately and do it for 3-4 days (that is when my 30-day raw diet ends). So I'd like to start tomorrow.

I've got a blender, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and kale. What else do I need and what do I make?

I should clarify, in terms of [fasting], it is void of any fiber/solids.........when we omit those, the digestive system takes a break from digesting and diverts it ENERGY into detoxifying, cleansing, reparing and healing~~

Now I know that you don't have a juicer so here is what I offer and suggest! Merely a suggestion and NOT telling you what to do b/c it is your decision ultimatley. We want to help you and cheer you on b/c you have worked soooooooooooo hard at this RAW journey and want to see you enjoy it!!!!

If anything, I would suggest in the morning first thing, do some really good blood flowing bouncing and cardio......like even if you have to dance around "Footloose" in the morning ;) Have lemon/lime juice dilluted with water until 12 pm. Since you don't have a juicer, doing blending of fruits is not going to be "authentic" fasting but a step closer than pure solids--ya know?

I would stay away from bananas for a week.

Some really good combos:

apple/celery/cilantro/ginger

(pause) I have someone at the door...............be back

Count me in!

I was doing the 30 day Raw challenge but "failed" after 18 days. I fell back to eating SAD and now feel like I'm ready to get back on the horse. What better way than with a Juice fast!

While I was Raw for those 18 days I certainly had a lot more energy, was feeling better about myself and had a new sense of awakening with personal introspective thinking and spirituality. I was even meditating and doing Yoga! Everything felt like it was going "right". These past few days I've been eating SAD, all of that has gone away. I no longer feel like I'm making positive strides in my life or realizing my spiritual side. It just feels wrong.

I know a big part of this fast will be rediscovering myself and journeying down that path. I look forward to the adventure. I'm shooting for 30 days but am happy with wherever it takes me. I have to admit that I'm scared. I LOVE eating. The sensation of it, the act. I think this will be hard but I'm ready.

Also, I have a question for ML or any others. Sorry if this has already been asked in another thread but I couldn't off-hand find anything.

How small do the particles in your juice have to be for your digestion to "shut down" so to speak? I have a higher-end $800 (CAD) Juicer (twin gear masticator) and use the smallest hole screen but still can see "floaties" or particles in the juice. Is that normal? Should I re-juice everything twice?

I have a $1800 Norwalk collecting a mountain of dust in the garage so maybe I'll dust that off and see if it does any better.

How small is small? lol.

EDIT >> Sorry, in re-reading this it almost sounds a bit like I'm flaunting the prices, etc. No bragging/ego, I just wanted to establish the quality level of the juicers at my disposal and my expectations of their abilitiy to reduce particles. Or if there even is a correlation between price/quality/particle reduction?

WOWSERS !!!!!

"Fasting Huddle" Tomorrow is IT.....we are entering into SPRING ACTION..........don't you feel it????

Firstgarden, knew you had the Brikenstock flare in ya!!!!! :p Mi casa Mu casa............My home is your home :D

Greensky, that's a great question! First of all, do the best you can BUT if you can strain them with a fine mesh, that would be ideal. No need to use a microscope at this time...

Hmmm mseylf......When I do juice, there there are some juices I will not do b/c of the pulp.......I will let the glass sit until the "floaters" settle down and drink what is clearly juice. Even foam I will void,,,,,,it is considered digestible which seems to be some people's favorite as well :p Boy, you have quite a collection of juicers!!!!!

So exctied to have you and join us! this truly is the BEST time to cleanse.........

Lodestar, even if you would like to fsat for a few days........this would be the perfect moment! I wasn't sure if you had specific questions as I answered more on a personal note.

Backatcha Mikey!!!! sounds like you will be partially fasting? That would be beneficial as well..........give us an idea of what you are doing...........

This is the time of year to spoil our LIVER and BLOSSOM

which thread is being used for the spring equinox fast? I am in...:p I saw another thread talking about it and now cannot find it..lol...they are all over the place...

going off my fast for 2.5 days does not seem to have done serious damage, but it is hard to get started again!! The equinox is a good motivator to get entirely "back on the wagon"..lol...

I am going to make some apple, celery juice,,maybe with a bit of ginger. I feel a bit heated though, so might not do the ginger..

happy fasting..and Happy Spring!!!

It's here!! For me anyways I am starting today:D Actually I started last night at about 6pm I had juice for "dinner", I thought I could give my body a little running head start by starting at 6pm cuz of all the good work our bodies do at night while sleeping.

Today I also have to go find some kind of strainer cuz there are still some chuncks of grapes and kiwi seeds coming through, so I'll just strain them out.

But anyways yay so excited!!! I mean waking up the morning I already felt more connected to the changing season:)

Juice:
B: I had about a cup of cucumber/apple/kiwi/grapefruit/grape juice (basically all the scraps of fruit and veggies we had left, I have to go get more before I make my next cup or so of juice)
L: a cup or so of cantaloupe jouce (1 cantaloupe)

What better way to start a day than sunshine filtering through the cherry tree blossoms?!! :D

Having a green juice, about 16oz. made of celery, cucumber, dandelion greens, ginger, lemon and apple.

I'll have a fruit-based juice next, then another green juice before anymore fruit juice. (I tend to get carried away by the sugar. I also need to use up all the produce I bought. Get this: I shopped for $45 worth of produce simply because I was shopping with my sister and didnt want her to ask why I didn't need any groceries! I already was planning on beginning a fast for spring, yet I just went ahead and stocked up on fruit and veg.)

Love the enthusiasm you all have for fasts. This will be so helpful!

I figure the juicing will be for 2 days, maybe 3 at the most, which is a nice way to ease into full fast mode of water-only.

I've been really reading about fasting lately so I'm ready! Had a large salad today, but I'm in the fasting mode since that. I've had nothing else but distilled water. I may do a green juice tonight or just wait for it tomorrow. I have spinach, parsley, celery, and apples ready and waiting to be gobbled, I mean slurped down.

My friend and I were going to do an apple "fast" for the equinox, but I just have NO appetite and want to cleanse at a deeper level. I just wont tell her lol.

I am soo totally psyched!!!:D

Today I woke up and decided to fast for the Spring Equinox. Little did I know that there was a whole movement already afoot here on RFT!

Later I was communicating with someone in The Food section of the RFT Board about my recent positive experience with a Green Smoothie (fasting/Cleanse) which I RARELY go to, and I spotted the whole gang starting a fast today! Totally Rawesome, folks!

WOW!!:)

Best wishes for healing and strength on everyone's journey into the wonderful world of fasting!

ML- Fasting Queen Thank you so very much for all of the wonderful information you have gathered for us, and for creating a community support space for all of us to share our journey in!!!

It is so much more amazing to share this with all of you!

I am not sure how far I will go. I have managed on several occasions to do 14 days, not sure if I can go the full 30. I know for me it is best to take it one day at a time. Even if I manage to do 7 days I will be HAPPY!!

Best of luck to everyone participating!

Made a GREAT juice that I want to do daily! I'll change up the "extra" ingredient which would be strawberries for orange, grape, or pineapple.

4 apples (gala, fuji, ambrosia, etc. NOT red/yellow delicious or granny smith)
1 head of celery + leaves
1/2" of ginger
1/2 a bundle of kale
1 HUGE bundle of spinach
4 strawberries
4 sprigs of parsley

I put some chopped ice into a cup and poured it over. YUMMINESS!

It makes exacly 32oz.

SOO good. I can't taste any of the greens, which is good lol. I figured if I want to go to Jujitsu I'll juice. That means Juice Tuesday - Saturday and water Sunday - Monday. Seems easy enough.

Does juicing greens work better than blending it into a smoothie? I would think so, right? Better assimilated and very easily and quickly obsorbed?

EDIT: I forgot about this. Last time I did a green juice (long ago) it made me EXTREMELY tired after I drank it. Same thing happened this time. Any idea why?? I wanted energy to do jujitsu, now I'm falling asleep!

Two completely different approaches Dream~~

There are definatley benefits far more to eating the fiber BUT in terms of FASTING, omitting the fiber is crucial in order to shit down the digestive sytem and divert the body ezymes into healing etc.......

I believe it's more beneficial to dillute juices vs pure juice.

I'd imagine you get tired b/c of the high cleansing impact.

Hi guys!

I've decided to research fasting and learn a LOT more about it before I do a fast. I want to make sure I'm ready and know what I'm doing. I want to be raw for a while first until it becomes "second nature" to me, which I actually feel it's already becoming! :)

Does anyone know if the following book is any good? I have access to it if anyone knows if it's good or not... I want to learn more about the science and stuff behind fasting, what happens to your body, how to transition to a fast and off of a fast, and how it can affect you, what to expect, etc... I guess pretty much everything... ;) I don't really need recipes, mainly info.

If this book isn't that great, any other recommendations? I know about the Freedom You one, but I'm hoping I can find something locally... :)

Thanks for any help!

Debra

I would suggest letting it sit for a minute to settle and using a straw to consure to void fiber...........granted some think I am too anal about it but if one wants to really fast, void of fiber, best to prevent consuming.......

Hey everybody whatsup?
Misslinda ya got a interesting group with you this time around. For me I'm reducing my intake, and gradually readjusting to solid foods again. I was talking with MR about that last week. I just finally swithed to eating solid salads and fruits again. But I discovered that "the food for the gods", is actually alot of food. The picture I submited, actually holds 2 cups of salad. So this fast for me is just a reduction of intake but not a total fast. I may do a couple days of just water and grapefruit juice as well.

Today I made my first homegrown wheatgrass juice. It is powerful stuff!!! I had been drinking the frozen, but there is just no comparison between the two. Even smelling the scent of it when I was juicing it caused some reaction..LOL..let alone drinking it. I had probably about two ounces, and will build up to 4-6, eventually.

I am going to have to get a little wheatgrass farm going here..LOL..in order to support my developing habit...:D :D :D

I thought maybe some of you would enjoy this article. The link was posted on the RawReform Blog and I posted some excerpts from it. I thought it was so relevant to our fasting for renewal of mind/body/spirit.... According to this article their is a window of @two weeks of new moon effect...in which it is especially beneficial to focus on release/renewal...

http://astrowisdom.com/thisnewmoon.htm

"Another New Moon in Pisces; another year mired in the ignorance of war spurred on by the illusion of separation. So once again I find it necessary to speak these deeply real and paradoxically intertwined truths: We are all connected and there is no security; for all things are uncertain. We are nothing and everything; full and empty. It is time we relinquish hatred, fear and greed, and start living together in love and peace. ...If all is not well around me, I am not well. ...This is the New Moon to practice compassion and selflessness by radiating peace and calm through prayer and meditation. Unlike Virgo, its opposite sign, Pisces knows no distinctions or differences: it perceives the unity within the diversity. Pisces acknowledges our essential connectedness and realizes it through the practice of unconditional love and unwavering compassion. Pisces is Bodhisattva consciousness embodied in self-sacrifice. Pisces' bottom line is to learn to love unconditionally, and to work for the collective enlightenment of all sentient beings; no matter how hard it may be or how long it may take.
...
This is the New Moon to look at what you cling to. We come here with nothing and we leave with nothing. Why then do we hold so tight to things that will not last? What can you give away? What can you share? The world needs your generosity, your caring, your compassion, and your love. Since Pisces rules direct experience of transcendence, this is a great New Moon to commit to a daily meditation practice. Think of it as a gift to set aside time each day to meditate and find the source of inner peace that resides within. This is the New Moon for spiritual awakening!
On this New Moon, use some of your ritual time to consider what destructive modes of thinking and acting can be released. Pisces is the sign of endings: of letting go for good. Take a hard look at whatever pain you are holding on to; especially if it involves addiction of any kind. Neptune and Pisces rule confusion, denial, addiction, codependence and an inability to hold good emotional boundaries. This is the New Moon to commit to sobriety. Drugs and alcohol are an easy, but ultimately destructive, veil between you and reality. There is no easy way out of fear and problems. Having the courage to face difficult issues and find solutions can be done, but only with a clear mind. Use the following two weeks as the Moon waxes to full to seek out self-help groups like AA, NA, or AL-A-NON/AL-A-TEEN for families of addicts. This goes for all addictions including food, abuse, overwork and gambling.
Every emotion you have is sourced in your mind and mediated primarily through the production of neurotransmitters and enzymes in the brain. Thankfully, the human body is wired so we feel our emotions in the heart. But actually the quality of what we feel rests solely with how the brain's synaptic and neuronal pathways are wired. The good news is the brain is plastic. So mindfully attending to the quality of thoughts, feelings and interactions actually enlivens compassion, empathy, and depth of intention—and rewires the brain.
...
Find the true self in the compassionate heart and create the conditions for peace to grow within and without. Then look outside of yourself to your partner, your parents, your children, your friends, your co-workers, your supposed enemies. Look at their pain; acknowledge your part in causing them to suffer. Wrap them up like a baby with your compassion, allowing love to work its healing magic. Go to them; tell them how sorry you are. Realize that what is done to one is done to all, and create the conditions for peace to grow all around you.
...
It is time we all say YES to the evolved Piscean transcendent god within-the higher functioning pre-front lobe-that is calm, thoughtful, joyous and respectful.
What a night to enter a powerful dream state of mind through trance and work to heal the massive suffering on our planet. This is not some kind of magical thinking. The New Moon in Pisces is the time to recognize that boundaries and distinctions are not real. They are the work of Maya; the great illusion of duality. Global healing and peace are not only possible, but can be a reality. This New Moon is our chance to begin doing at home what must be done globally. Heal your life and you will make a great contribution toward healing this world. Open your heart, let compassion be your guide and become an active peacemaker. Don't be afraid to do the work of loosening your attachment to self-identification. Love yourself by loving others. We are all in this together, and together we can do the impossible. Be inspired to be a beacon of peace and light for the world. Dive deeply into this powerfully transcendent New Moon cycle."

I agree with homegrown wheatgrass,,,,was it more sweet and not so "mowed grass like" I use get it juiced at the HFS but stopped when I met the guy who grew it and he is not healthy by all means.....doesn't even eat healthy....not sure how he really cultivates his WG

Rawfoodiemom, I have that book and actually just finished reading it. I haven't read any other Fasting books so I can't compare really. But my general impression was that there's probably better out there. It's an easy, fast read and a good general primer. Sproutman knows what he's talking about. However, I found his focus very water fasting oriented. There's probably better books that deal specifically with Juice fasting. Also, it left me wanting more details and I still had some unanswered questions. It's a good primer but not great as a detailed reference. Still, I found it very inspiring to read and I think it's a good choice for a first fasting book. It's short and well written so it's easy to jump into and get finished up.

Also, while I'm here, I'll do a "checking-in" post :)

Day 2 of the fast and I'm still feeling PUMPED!

I've been going through some harsh detox though. Is that normal only 24hrs in? Constant on/off headaches, woke up with flu feeling this morning (gone now), funny itchy rashes that spring up out of nowhere and disappear 20 minutes later, acne, bad breath, all the standard stuff I guess.

I finished off yesterday with a spinach/apple/cilantro/carrot/ginger juice and some lemon water. I find the lemon water really gives me heartburn so I may cut back on the lemon or eliminate it entirely.

This morning I've just had water (no juice yet). So off to the kitchen I go to juice up something great.

GO GO GO EQUINOX FASTING TEAM!!!

Omg! Yay, I finnished day 1!! It got hard too cuz I started feeling sick and got a headache and by the end up of the day couldn't even stand the thought of having juice... I probibly had like 3 cups of juice yesterday, which wasn't a lot, but I guess my body more neded water *shrugs shoulders* I also must have slept for a good 11 hours, that is the longest time I've slept in... who knows. Not to mention the other 3 hours I lay in bed trying to fall asleep cuz I wasn't feeling well.

I have a question :D my roomies got pizza last night and I found myself locking myself in my room so I wouldn't have any. It was the oddest thing wanting pizza even tho my tummy was too upset to even have juice. Do these werid cravings go away?

Well today I am gonna try writing out my needs for doing this juice fast so I can look at it when I am feel it's getting tough. I just haven't gotten that need back to drink some juice, I still feel naseous(sp?) so I guess I'll stick to water until my tummy says ok I'm ready juice me up :)

Felt...weird today. It's day 2. I havn't made it this long in YEARS and that was on diet soda and sugar free gum, so I don't think that counted. So...this is the first time I've made it this long lol. Feeling odd waves of...tingling and fuzzy sensations all over my body. Kidneys started getting intense pain, but only for a minute, but in the past 3 hours it's been constant, but a very low level of pain. My eyes aren't tired, but if I layed down I KNOW I'd be out cold for hours. I have homework to do though  At first I'm going to go take a nice hot bath with sea salts to relax me some more. Today was just water with lemon. No juice. I went to work today unexpectedly and we got our produce shipment. I was at that point I always get around 24-30 hours of fasting thinking "i can't do this..." not cravings, just...wanting to eat maybe? Not sure, but I got through it this time!!!!

Tomorrow will be a LONG day. I leave at 10 and depending on how I feel I'm going to Jujitsu after work tomorrow so that gets me home at 10 PM. If I have absolutely no energy I will come home. We'll see.

It was mostly raw, so that's something I guess. I think all the sugar high juices threw me off the other day. I have a whole fresh day tomorrow to fill with celery-apple-lemon juice and cucumber water.

I have garlic breath.

Ugh.

Oh, but I'm super excited because I just applied to go back to college in September, and am looking into a summer course or 2 to get back in the swing of academia. It's been a long time of doing nothing, so I'm stoked to DO something! Happy Spring :D

QUESTION - Do you dilute your juices with water? Or drink 'em straight?

I also need to start again tomorrow.... I fasted all day, but around 8:30, after some emotional upset, I ate...

I have decided to start the colon cleanse I was planning for over Easter on friday instead, because I think something more structured will help me get through this rough patch I have been having.

I am sure I will be able to make it now..... :-)

I love that I can go to bed and wake up with 13 hours of fasting already under my belt. I find it so much easier when I think in terms of hours, for the first few days at least. Whatever works :p

I'm going to have a cucumber juiced and diluted with water and lemon juice. And I think I'll hit up the Master Cleanse lemonade for a few days.

2 1/2 weeks ago, when I fasted for 5 days I was drinking those cayenne lemonades and not only did I really like 'em, it seemed to work really well.

Everyone, have a ______ day. :D

I stopped my fast today. I'm a little upset, but I think at the moment it's for the best. I'm more intune with my body and will listen to it. I have way too many toxins in my body to do a fast this....fast lol. I wasn't scared of the symptoms, but I have to go to work and would rather not pass out there or anything.

Maybe this is TMI, but I "threw up" about 4 times very early this morning and was up 2.5 hours practically crying from the naucea. Nothing was in my stomach so not much came up. I felt better after the motion though. I think either it was toxins or drainage or a combination. Not sure which one. I'm going to eat simple organic mono fruit meals and not stuff myself. That'll still give my digestive system some what of a break. I'd like to do a weekly 24-36 hour fast and eventually go into a longer fast.

Good luck to the rest of you! Should I leave this thread since I'm not longer completely fasting?

Oh thank god, I'm not the only one naseous... I feel so bad too cuz I think I need to end this, it's getting to be a lot for my first fast. But yet I feel too stubborn, and I have this feeling if I get off the fast it's gonna be to eat a lot of SAD and I dunno how to stop that:(

But anyways don't leave, we like ya here :)

Well I have to confess I made the decion to stop my fast. I woke up feeling really sick and weak, I have a concert (my very first) that I have been REALLY looking forward to, and I knew I couldn't go feeling that sick. It has all been raw tho food wise;) I may decide to go back on the fast tomorow but I am really gonna just go with the flow for now. Best of luck everyone!

Checking in as well. Day 3 and still going strong. I had a *long* nap today. Feeling very tired. Anyway, I had a disgusting beet greens juice (mixed with other things) last night and could barely choke it down. I'll really have to dig up some decent beet juice recipes. This morning I had pineapple/grape/carrot/spinach - super tasty!. I'm off to make some other ghastly green thing now.

Good luck to everyone!

I am starting my colon cleanse tomorrow and will be fasting on liquids for an indefinite period...

I decided to move it up a week, because I have been feeling the need for a more structured approach...

I hope all of you are doing well this evening, feeling better..

btw..sometimes when detoxing, bile gets dumped in the stomach and causes nausea. vomiting can get rid of it and help you feel better pretty quickly.. :-)

have a good evening!!!

Day 4? Lol I feel so out of whack I can't even keep things straight anymore in my mind. Anyway, still going strong on the Juice fast. Had a tasty pineapple/pear/cilantro/carrot juice this morning. I'm going to start dilluting my juices a bit, I find them too strong (greens) or too sweet (fruits).

Last night I felt like I was going out of my mind. I felt like I was on drugs or something. The detoxing is kicking in to full force.

im stirring up pollution like green sky is , its kind of got me mentally foggy / brain numb . running helps , getting away from small muscle movements and brain work of everyday life by running (or biking) is kinda like flooring a car and blowing all the carbon out of the carburator .

waters tasting best to me . though i juiced apples last night that tasted good but my bodies just craving water to i guess assist in flushing out pollution , it doesnt want nutrients . theres alot of chips ahoy - hostess cupcake and snickers bar sediments in me from decades past that must be flushed out . :)

I am feeling less than fabulous. :(

Before bed, in the evening, I began to feel extremely over-heated. It apparently was freezing cold in the house because I had turned off all the heaters as I felt so, well, hot.

I woke in the wee hours with horrific bowel explosions and that urge and reflex of vomiting on an empty stomach. It was dreadful. Sleep afterwards was minimal due to the nausea which settled upon me. I felt like I would throw up but couldn't/never did.

So far this today I've stuck to water and water with some lemon. I'm going to make some cool, soothing cucumber juice and go for a walk.

With a lot on my plate this coming week I'm going to switch up to the Green Smoothie Cleanse so I don't start any violent detox when I least need it. Besides, I think my skin would appreciate all the greens. My understanding of it is you just eat nothing but green smoothies, sweet or savoury, for 7 days.

I hope all the fasters here are lovin' it.

Once things settle down and my outside responsibilities ease off, I will be back to fast with whomever is around. :)

Ciao.

Hi Everyone,

On March 9th I started a Green Smoothie Cleanse, and then on the 20th I joined the fast, but I am doing the Master Cleanse fast. After 10 days or more, I may join the juice fast or transition back to the Green Smoothie Cleanse.
Today for the first time, I felt a little light-headed, and a bit weak during yoga today. It's strange how it took this long to catch up to me. I don't really feel like doing a lot of strenuous activity right now. Have been doing some rebounding, and gentle yoga.

I am aiming to do at least 10 days of the Master Cleanse, maybe more...

We'll see. One day at a time.

Glad to see people hanging in there.
Dreamrawalwz Glad to see that you have joined us. The more the merrier.
you, too, Raw Vegan Mom!

Good morning Day 5 !!!

Still going strong. Cravings flare up mostly at night but they're only temporary and I usually find myself quite satisfied after having a good juice. My stomach seems to have settled down and is now into the swing of things. Weight is melting off. Detox symptoms are lessening although I do find myself getting progressively more tired and have less energy every ongoing day. I've been fairly active the past couple of days and have had some stressful news so maybe it's more to do with that.

My goal right now is to complete 7 full days but I'm starting to look past that to two weeks - perhaps that's a good sign? I'm actually quite surprised with myself that I've managed to accomplish this much so far. I LOVE eating food. Almost more than anything else in this universe. It hasn't been made easy by any means with my wife eating all my favorite foods right in front of me (talk about support ). The smells drive me bonkers. Despite all that, I feel strangely at peace with myself and what's going on with my body. It all just feels right.

Off to make some breakfast juice. See you all tomorrow!

Being! my apologies, missed your post. NOthing wrong with doing shorter fasts and staying raw..........fasting will always be here and when your body feels right with it......it will automatically do so. You are more than welcome to gab with us still!!!

Across between the apple hoard by MR bandit to Soulstar's and Greensky's report progress, I feel the fasting vibe...........:)

It's as you all say, that peacefulness that sets in wihtin ourselves

and we start to realize mind/body and spirit that food is just food........we begin to learn what real appetite feels like --all the while experiencing disguised HUNGER aka cravings ;)

I always felt it was a panormaic view of what is truly going on when fasting.....

Hello, everyone. I am doing a cleanse this spring as well and figured I'd join up with everyone here. Hi everyone... After my 7.5 day "hiatus" I am back. :D I knew that I would come back, and this morning I awoke and felt the shift had occured. It started yesterday late afternoon..and when speaking with my son, I told him I would be back on today. I think the "damage" sdone has been relatively minimal. i am expecting a migraine, but am prepared with my various remedies.. ("natural" of course..)

This has been interesting letting my cravings go..and seeing the length of duration.. I think that it will be easier next month to not give in to them, if I remember that they will pass in about 8 days.

Good thing I will be fasting..won't have to spend much on food..LOL..

Thank You Miss Linda, for your encouragement and example...;)

I hope that you are feeling well today, and enjoying the beauty of Spring.

Yesterday I was driving, for my job, and a beautiful song came on, and the rain and fod over the river struck me as particularly lovely and mysterious..and I felt overcome with a sense of life's beauty and possibility...I felt so thankful to be alive and present..:)

Have a beautiful day...all you lovely fasters!!! :D

Morning Everyone! Well today I'm going to begin my transition back to solids. I figure it will be a three day process starting with light smoothies & watery fruit and gradually increasing the quanitity, fats/oils and starches over three days.

It's been a great 5-6 days of fasting for me and I'm quite proud of my first fasting attempt. I certainly have experienced the benefits on many levels and look forward for more to come. I just feel like this is the right time to end it. It's what my body is telling me to do. Mentally I feel like I could go on forever but my body is saying otherwise. I think it's probably wise to listen to myself than to force through it.

So back to Raw it is! I want to give a big thanks to MissLinda for all her encouragement and guidance. It's greatly appreciated. Also thanks to everyone else for their support.

This is me pulling off the fasting highway onto the offramp back to Raw. *honk* *wave*

I know I can make the 10 days, not sure if I will be able to go longer, though. I have been on the Master Cleanse. I shall see. I can't wait til tomorrow when it will be one week, though. Something about making it a week gives me an added boost to keep going.

mershwista for me at 16 months raw ive all along used green tea even though people say it isnt raw . to me its only water and tiny plant sediments that cant be too much of a negative on my body . and what it does is supresses appetite . whenever i craved cooked ide drink green tea to quell my appetite . now im eating less food but have just as much energy and strength , the teas helped me to shrink my gut down from its bloated cooked food state .

Hi Everyone,

It is Day 7 of my Master Cleanse Fast which I intend to complete 10 days of (possibly 14). I am taking the time commitment in small increments so that I don't get overwhelmed thinking there is way too much longer for me to fast before this whole thing ends.

Yesterday I had a great deal of emotional upheaval, due to some interpersonal issues that came up, and I found it very hard to control my emotions. Detox? I'm sure it may have contributed to my inability to control my emotions.

Today I just feel a bit drained, maybe from yesterday's drama. I am not sure.

Well, best of luck to everyone else still hanging in there.

Time to fly,

Happy Fasting to you all!

im on day 7 too soulstar ,
its mighty lonely out here on the lonely fasting highway .

well at this stage = 16 months raw + around 13th fast from 3 to 20 days i feel im into some deep cleansing . and one of the occurences why i say this is that for like a decade ive been getting a reacurring small knot/bump on my upper back which inflames . doctors have prescribed some kinda creams many times which really havent done much . well right before this fast it was getting reddish around the area , now on the fast its gotten red in a way larger area , 1 inch , and the red is starting to dry up and flake off like its toxins being forced out of the area that have been dwelling there for years .

well ran 2 miles today and did some light lifting with dumbells .
on mainly water .
down the road truckers .

and I am doing o.k. lol... a migraine and "teariness".. Thank "goddess" for my kitty, who cuddles with me here... :o

My tummy is growling..which I love, because I know it is shrinking down again. I am almost out of groceries..so I was scrounging for smoothie ingredients and I soaked some dried coconut, blended it, strained the water, then blended it with frozen peaches and a little maple syrup. It was not too good..LOL.. but I drank some..and put the rest in the fridge. Heck..if I get deperate enough, I may drink some more...

I will go to the store tomorrow. I do not feel well enough to get dressed and go now. And there is no "smoothie" delivery company here. Wouldn't it be so easy to be raw and to fast is there were raw/juice delivery places all over like there are dominoes and mc d's? (((sigh)))

I am going to boil up more coffee for my "you know whats"..... They help detox the liver and help with the migraines..at least for me. ;)

Have a good evening, you all....

Hey MR,

I thought of you when I saw these pics. A driver from an outfit called C & A Trucking was making a delivery where I work (Home Depot) and had these shots of his rig with him. I really liked them and hung them up back in the receiving office.

No political statement intended... I just thought they were really cool.

I especially like the one of the San Francisco bridge. The water is so blue - not "photoshopped." And when the shot was taken, there happened to be a trolley car on the bridge. See?

thanx firstgarden . i never new the trolley cars went over the bridge .
btw , home depot is the greatest store on earth (well for me anyway because i buy tools like women buy shoes ) . you guys seem to have smart ownership there , from the stores products all the way to sponsoring the best nascar driver on earth .

mershwista i swear my neighboor hood ice cream truck has been playing the same stupid song for over a decade easily , i always say to myself ' there should be a law saying they have to change the song every month because hearing this over and over is irritating to the max .'

well goin in to day 8 and this fast is causing havoc , i feel like i did on day 20 of the last one = very lame . but they say thats when your really doing some heavy house cleaning so its probably a good thing .

keep on trucking everyone .

Hey all... just thought I'd pop in over here a second. I've got 5 juice bars within walking distance of me, another 3 within a 20 min bike ride away, and several others a 20 min drive away. And then there's the many raw restaurants here that do deliver! (At a high cost, mind you. :) ) Gotta love LA!

Day 16 & goin' strong! :)

Day 6 for me! Still feel phenominal!! Made watermelon 'soup' today and had my usual Flor-Essence in the morning & evening. Might have some wheatgrass/alfalfa juice later with a little Nature's First Food in it. Watermelon soup is SO YUM! Juice a watermelon & a lime and add cumin & chili powder, then strain & chill! :D

I have so much extra energy that I keep working out & playing a ton of DDR lately! Going to the gym tomorow!

SPring feeeeeeels so great! Ya'll are doing soooooooooooooo fabulous. I have slowly added juices back in and today is day one of partially dilluted and undilluted juices. Feels different drinking it like this.

I don't want to set limits on how long to fast but just to let you know, by the end of month, I will be officially off liquids and moving into April 30 day challenge to transition into solid foods! Anyone who wishes to continuing fasting here, more than welcome to do so.

I'm going thru "cold" detox and I haven't had one like this in such a long time. It actually feels good :p

Oh yes... I do! Not that I go to them all the time--I've got my juicer at home. But when I'm running around & want something quick with no muss or fuss, they're certainly there in a pinch. ;) (It's definitely one of the things I worry about if I decide to move out of here. HELLO everyone,

I have just arrived in Massachusetts where my computer access is limited.
I am on Day 9 and feel good. I have decided to go for at least 14 DAYS, which means I will go until at least Monday.

Still taking it one day at a time.

I grilled some tofu and onions in a marinade for my partner last night which made me feel sick to my stomach. I couldn't bear the smell. It seems I have become a great deal more sensitive to smells and sounds while fasting. I also nixed watching a DVD that was too much of a sensory overload. Instead I focused on reading a book on DETOX and a new raw food book I checked out from the library that I enjoyed.

Best wishes to each of you. It's nice to have this thread and you folks to check in with.

Miss Linda - How long have you been fasting? You are the fasting champ! Best wishes on your smooth transition forward.

Misslinda,

I have been perusing all the threads pertaining to fasting and it seems that you have the foremost experience. I was wondering your thoughts on electrolytes. After reading Joel Fuhrman’s book, I really felt every part of my being saying YESSSS!!! This is what you need. I have been raw off and on for 2 years and have done 10-day juice fasts but only 1 or 2 day water fasts. (And felt the benefit of much needed rest for my digestion) I want to do longer water fast but Fuhrman's book talks about being tested daily(?) for electrolyte balance. I'd love to know your thoughts.

Hi Bean! Welcome and nice to meet you:)

He's going to be at Raw Spirit Festival! Are you going?

I should make clear, I have no medical formal training--all of my opinions and suggestions are from research, intuition and experience.

In general, the avearge person is healthy "enough " to fast for 7-10 days without supervision and concerns for loss. Anything longer is at your discretion or consult with an expert.

In terms of water fasting, if a person does not build up their health prior to doing a lengthy water fast, imbalance/depletion of electrolytes is possible b/c water fasting is much more intense and over burden of toxins pulls the electrolyte reserves to balance and compensate for being under distress. Mangesium is I believe if I recall, first to be depleted! That is why if anything, build up your health thru raw before taking on lengthy fasts.

There is also the issue of those exercising while fasting which speeds up the electrolyte depletion........it makes no sense to go to the gym while again, the body is under hardship to detox (fasting). The body needs rest. On a larger scheme of fasting, we need to "fast" from people, places and things in order to savor our body's reserves.

I LOVE Cousens view on what fasting means. It truly is a time to be away from the world. That is why resting is importatant, if we expose our senses to too much while fasting, we also run the risk of utilizing energy/nutrients that could have been reserved. Rest rest rest.

Fasting on juices is your safest route to ensure replenishment of nutrients.

I don't encourage people to lengthy water fast if they have not had a healthy diet for awhile---but I can't tell people what to do --ya know?

However, it is a one's own discretion so I suggest at least a week transition and day to day basis of fasting on water.

Again, when a person has had healthy diet such a raw for at least good 6 months, the body has enough quality reserves to take on lengthy fast.....it's the less healthy people that suffer. I think that is why this time around I was able to for much longer b/c I was RAW for 6 months (minor slip). It's like tring to run a marathon and not having trained;)

Another thought, you may consider doing 10 day fasts each month.

The RAW on and off syndrome weakens the body/digestive health even greater.....so what was the timeline? Did you go off pretty hard?

:)

Hey MissLinda!

Thought I'd hop in and fast for a coupl'a days! I've been doing alright diet-wise during school, because I don't bring money to school and I bring a big ol bag of fruit to munch. But on weekends I tend to go a little crazy! Aye yi yi! And now, I'm in the middle of my spring break from school and I'm rolling on the floor in pain because I can't control my eating! Ugh! I went to Sweet Tomatoes the other night, piled up a big salad, but only ate 5 bites and pigged on other "goodies". I'm getting way out of control and I'm breaking out and gaining weight like crazy so I just need to STOP! I am officially starting a juice fast right now until Saturday night. Saturday night I'm going out to dinner with my folks for my bro's birthday. I just need a couple of days to think about my diet and regain self control.
I'll be drinking lots of green juice, pom juice, possibly some homemade veggie broth etc. I might also do some psyllium husks. I want this "food" OUT OF ME!!! Also, Chakra Yoga every day! Makes me feel relaxed and makes me want to drink green juice and eat raw food!

I AM A HEALTH FREAK, IT'S ABOUT TIME I COMMITED TO EATING LIKE ONE!! :p :D

quote that I will read everyday to keep me on track:
I tell you truly. Satan entered your bodies which are the habitation of God. And he took in his power all that he wished to steal: your breath, your blood, your bones, your flesh, your bowels, your eyes and your ears. But by fasting and your prayer, you have called back the Lord of your body and his angels.

Wish me luck!! :) It's been a longggg time since I've fasted!! I'm thinking about fasting once a week once I get back on track. :D

Aw, ML, it's nice to know I've been missed :)

I was planning on jumping in, but now that you're asking about transitioning, perhaps I'll take tomorrow to take it easy and drink lots of juice, lots of water, fruits, smoothies, perhaps psyllium tomorrow if I can make it to the HFS, then fast on Friday. That sounds exactly like where I was before going into my fast that's by now almost over...It had literally been years since I'd managed to pull off a fast for more than a day, and most of the times I could have otherwise fasted during that period of time, I knew I wasn't ready for it emotionally...so I waited until now.

And good luck with your fasting!

Misslinda,

Thank you for your reply.

To answer your first question, no I will be unable to attend the Raw Spirit Fest this time. I'd love to though. (Where is it?)

To the second question, yes I went off pretty hard.
I have major food addiction issues and it seems to be a constant struggle to stay raw. One of the things I remember about fasting is it did help me shake the cravings for cooked food because I was juicing greens.

However I am trying now to work out the emotional issues that so often trigger my lapses.
Sorry, a bit off the subject now...
Anyway, your right I do need to be consistently raw for it to really benefit my body. I do feel that some fasting would possibly help me be more consistent with a raw lifestyle. Maybe I will try a 10 day fast and see if that helps.
Thanks again for your input it's really awesome to have a forum to discuss this.

Hi faithful fasters,

I am on Day 10 and am now definitely planning on trying to go until Monday which will be a total of 14 Days. If I make it 13 I will still be happy. One day at a time.

It does seem to get easier the longer I fast.

The only detox symptoms I have are yukky mouth in the morning, a bit of light-headedness occasionally, and mood swings. I am also extremely sensitive, ans nauseated by cooked food smells, and loud sounds.

Ciao,

Hey Bean, it will be in Sedona AZ !!! We have a thread in events section if you wanna take a peak in case you can go!

I understand. That's the revoloving swivel chair to consider when wanting to fast:

One, can I tolerate cocentrated detox and hunger on fasting ?

Secondly, when I am done fasting, will I nourish myself with healthy ALIVE foods and not get bound in the fasting yo yo syndrome?

Sadly to say, fasting doesn't resolve our emotional/mental issues with food. It can however, slough and exfoliate some the internal garbage that keeps us from being able to be balanced mind, body and spirit so that we are aware of our associations and misguided cognitions about our bodies and food.

The real HEALING as I have mentioned in "Why fasting?????" thread and in my blog, is when you journey back from fasting and refamiliarize yourself with people, place and things (food too)again. All your senses will venture back to former established associations and hopefully if fasting done correctly with the right intenstions, we can negate that/those thoughts/feelings and create NEW healthy associations without turmoil.

However, like many fasters here, I understand that deep, emotional frustration and desperation to "pruge" and rid the dirtiness of these bad foods we find our selves immersed in when we allow our emotiona and mental misgivings take over.........the binge feels like there is not time to stop it YET the effects feel like a lifetime even if it only has been a few hours later........

Beanie, it doesn't even have to be 10 days, You can do it for 24 hours and observe you thought feelings and mindset. Perhaps 1 day a week fast....then 2 day a week etc etc ......if we develop a consistent pattern without the fall, you will be stronger. Most importantly, your intenstion with FASTING.

* open thought here to all *

I think one of the hallmarks of a binge or food addiction, is the feeling of dirtiness or secretivness..........anxiety sets in and the person feels compelled to rid the effects as quickly as possible for the shame. Fasting
( associated with cleanliness and purtiy)becomes that "safe haven" --thrown into the food addicted cycle.

That is why we started the thread on "Why fasting????" We want to get down to the heart of the matter so we don't read or hear about people going thru and getting caught up in a vicious -self tormenting cycle of eating raw, bingeing, fasting, crashing and SAD and then back again. with fasting.....by this time, the body has been depleted and internally weak. The fasting becomes more difficult to the point that is unattainable b/c it has been down this route before and it "fears" it........WOW, that acutally is a GREAT indication that the body needs to be rebuilt...........EAT RAW--build up and fasting if one wishes.

Soulstar!!! Blessing and peace on your days of fasting~~ I'm sure the Spring season has opened up many healing moments.....continue in love and healing~~:)

ML- Oh gosh, my best friend lives in Sedona.... not a raw foodist though.

Thanks for the great advice, I have been on that vicious cycle for quite some time now and I surely feel the effects of yo yo-ing.

Baby steps, I have to remember that when I am anxious to undue what I wish I wouldn't have done. (Sometimes in a very unhealthy way)

Incidentally, my family calls me Beanie.
Thanks for all the advice.

Beanie

Welcome. I'm glad you are here. I look forward to hearing more about your progress. Miss Linda gave you some very wise advice, as she always does. Be gentle with yourself and listen to what your body really needs from you right now. Whether it is a 24 hour fast and then some very simple raw cleansing foods for awhile, or whether you feel called to a several day fast, alllow yourself to take it one day at a time.

Before I began fasting on March 20th, I had completed 2 weeks of a Green Smoothie Cleanse. As part of this cleanse I ate only fruits and high water content veggies, and lots of greens.
I had no salt, sweeteners, spices, nuts, avocados, oils, dehydrated food, or dried fruit.
The Green Smoothie Cleanse was a great way to prepare myself for a fast. Perhaps something similar might work for you, where you start with eating simple raw foods and then work your way into a fast. Whatever you choose to do that feels right,I wish you the best healing and strength on your journey.

Miss Linda- I really appreciate your kind words and support and want to thank you again for holding this supportive fasting space and for sharing your wisdom and encouragement so generously with everyone here. You truly rawk, girlfriend!!! Many blessing of light and healing to you, sharer of de-light!:)

To everyone else, newcomers and those hangin' in for awhile, I wish you all the best as well!

Peace, and clarity

Yes.. I will definitely keep everyone updated through my journey. I do really love to share my experiences. My new job has just changed my schedule a bit.. and I'm still getting used to it. :)

I am now just hearing about the Raw Spirit Festival. Looks like I'm going to have to manifest this event into my life. I just know I would enjoy going!! Will you be attending?

Ok I 'paused' to eat at Go Raw Cafe's salad bar! ROFL! And to try a white sapote I got at WFM last time I went! I wasn't hungry & didn't feel like stopping, but I did really just want to taste these 2 things!! So I am planning to start up again I think, because I wasn't done yet! Fasting right now just feels so good! So I ended up doing almost 8 full days this time. :D I really want to do a 92 day liquid fast before it gets too hot out.

Also...I love your website, I must say. Question...what is the html code you used to embed the video about the China study? Because I would like to post that in a few places for some people I know could benefit from it. Thanks in advance : )

Thanks!! :D
The code for the China Study video is here:

Way to go MR your the Chief of fasting Highway!!!!! Did you get past the skin detox? Peaceful blessings in your post fasting and family visit!

Findingme, growling is a sign of detox so your best bet is to allow it to take it's course. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrowl ;)

goodmorning gilligan , thought ide leave your message on this coconut answering machine here today :) = the proffesors skin detox is still raging , and this is great news . because ive had a deep tissue swelling in my upper back for years . every several months itd swell up to the surface into a small 1/4" lump which would sting and also put inflamation on the back of my lung and kinda shorten my breath . drs said its nothing and could never stop it with any meds though . so now at 16 months raw and all the fasts thrown in this deep swelling is seemingly being pushed out by the work of my now cleaner / stronger blood and all the toxins / dead cells / germs are coming to the surface and have formed a 2" reddish raised welt type area that is very dry / scaly like its the dry scaly skin at the end of a scab that flakes away . this entire raised area is flaking away , and is imo all the pollution that was causing my deep tissue swelling and thusly that should no longer be a problem . and that is great because that swelling was cutting my breath down so bad on that sides lung that it was leaving me with much less energy in a day . so this is my first really big improvement on raw , besides my skin still continuing to improve and feel more sensitive and smoother pinker . me being 48 and having bad ibs i think its taking me longer to make improvements , but now i think im finding my way and am on track and my health issues shall start to go bye bye now  . im gonna continue to fast on a regular basis and of course raw forever . im looking at maybe fasting a week per month forever . i bet a person fasting like that from births body would last well over a hundred , and be in much better shape/ health for longer . im looking to reverse some aging with regular fasting + raw , and i bet it works . it has to because im the proffesor ;)

Hello Everyone,

It is Day 12 and I feel strong and good. I know now I can easily make it to 14 days. Perhaps on Monday (my 14th Day) i will extend my fast for another few days. In the back of my mind I would love to be able to do 20, but I don't want to commit to that until I might be at day 15 or 16. I find it much easier psychologically to keep extending my fast by a few days at a time as i travel along this cleansing and healing path. I plan on breaking my fast with mostly high water fruit, and maybe a few tender greens mixed into smoothies. In would probably try to do that for a week at least, possibly more. The only food I have been craving during the fast is juicy fruits, like mango, oranges, grapefruit.

Best wishes to one and all who are partaking in this journey, and continued thanks to MISS LINDA for all of your continued support, and sound advice.

Ciao,

Hi First Garden,

Sorry to hear about the bumps in the road. I know what those can be like. The last time I tried to fast I was waylaid by a few bumps in the road, as well.

I wish you the best while you begin fasting anew.

Congratulations Sierra Sage!!

Sierra Sage:Wow! 18 Days is Awesome!!! :) Have a gentle and smooth transition back to the world of raw food. Did you do you juice fast?
How are you planning to break your fast? You're an inspiration!

I am on Day 14, I hope to make 18 or 20. One day at a time, though, is the best way for me to take it.

All the best to everyone who is still fasting, just begun fasting, or just finished fasting!

Thanks Soulstar-- :)

I chronicled part of my juice fast here on RawCutter's "OK, I'm in! Juice fast here we go!" thread. (Along with a few posts in the "Fasting Bandits" thread before that.)

I've just reached "Day 5" of breaking my fast & have chronicled how I broke it. (My last 2 posts on RawCutter's thread.) Back to normal eating today--whoohoo!! :) ("True Hunger" set in last evening. So different from not being hungry whatsoever during a fast!)

Keep it up! You're doing good!! :D

Thanks for the heads up about your posts on RawCutters thread. I read the whole thread and was really inspired by both you and Raw Cutter. Great thread to read while fasting!

I feel like I can make it to Day 18 or 20. Like you, Sierra, I will be paying attention to what my body says, and proceed accordingly. Right now, it just feels great to be fasting with no hunger at all!!! Hurray!!

I have been doing a mostly water and lemon juice fast, with occasional grapefruit juice. It has been interestint to note that I feel best when doing the simple lemon juice and water fast.
I also include a cup of fasting herbal tea on some days.

To anyone who is still out there, all the best to you wherever you are on your joureny!

Hey Soulstar! :) Just keep at it--day by day by day. :D (as you know) I was so shocked to come over to this site & see so many fasters when I did, 6 days into my fast as it were. Don't really have a clue how I timed it just right--when so many other people were in the middle of fasting too.

Anyhow... I think lemon & water is just fine. The less going into the system always feels the best to me too.

Good Luck for the rest of your fast!

Sierra Sage Thanks for your support. I appreciate it. I, too, like to keep the fast simple. It is amazing to feel that I can keep doing this. 14 days is the longest I have ever done it before. My body hasn't been giving me any signs of needing to stop yet. It was good to hear about your experience, so I can be more attuned to whatever signal my body may decide to give me when it is ready to stop.
Til then, like you said, it is ONE day at a time!!;)

Elizabeth- Hello there, and best wishes to you on your fast.:) In the past I have always done 2 week fasts, too. That amount of time always felt good. I think this time around I have been inspired by reading some of the fasting folks on here who have gone a bit longer, like yoursefl, and decided to see what that was like. It happens to be a good time for me to do an extended fast, so I figured I should try it while I have less demands in my life. How was it for you to do the 20 day fast you did earlier this year, (i think). You lost an incredible amount of weight, but the best part is that you were able to keep it off! That is so awesome! You go, girl!!!
I will also be checking in on the juice fasting thread. The more support the merrier! Many people began fasting on the Spring Equinox, but I believe that I am the only one left fasting from that initial time, and now many others, like yourself, have begun fasting, which is wonderful. It was getting lonely around here!:D

All the best to everyone fasting
Have a great Day!!!

I'm on day three of a water fast. My energy is kinda down. I've been doing enemas and colema board every day. I worked my job, involving a lot of physical work and noxious exhaust fumes, for days one and two. I will stay at home on days five and six, rather than go into work. I'm planning on breaking the fast sometime on day six with durian or mango.
Best to all

Well, I'm on Day 20 and beginning to crave juicy fruits!
I thought that I might try to go for 28, but I may only go for 21 days.
Some days I have water fasted, some days I have had the juice of one grapefruit, and others I have had the juice of one lemon.

Part of the reason why I have been feeling like eating foods again is that this weekend I have smelled tons of cooked food from my partner. Some that he has cooked and some that I have made for him. Being around all the food smells and watching him eat has been challenging this weekend. Maybe during the week while we are both at work, things will become easier again.

As always, I am taking it one day at a time, but definitely feel capable of making it through tomorrow, to make it a 21 day fast. My first 3 week one!

I have been reading some interesting fasting books that really inspire me to make regular fasting a part of my routine. Like a week to 10 days 4 times a year, or 2 weeks every 6 months. There are so many wonderful benefits to giving the digestive system a rest, and allowing the circulatory system to clean itself out as well.

I wish everyone all the best in their fasting endeavors!

Livingat thetop Wow a 3 month fast! Do you mean a water fast ? Best of luck!

always striving- good luck with completing your water fast! I'm glad you are going to stay home for day 5 and 6! That will certainly help. IMHO, it might be preferable to break your fast with mango, since fats are harder to break down and digest. From what I have read in several books, juicy fruits are ideal for breaking a fast since they move through the stomach and digestive system more quickly, due to their high water content and low fat content. You know what is best for you though, so do as you will!;)

CONGRATS SOULSTAR ! :)

making that 20 day barrier last month was huge for me too , made me feel like a pro faster / ninja monk ;) :D

and im totally on board with fasting as an eternal habit to give the body a break and chance to do internal house cleaning , weve got to master this discipline at great future / long term health benefit ! i like the schedule you mentioned of 7 to 10 days (and further when one feels it or has the free time) 4 times a year . after MISSLINDA put the team on the spring equinox fast for reasons im sure she based in fasting logic i arrived at the mind set of doing a fast at the start of all 4 seasons , so itd be june sep dec mar . so im throwing the idea out there to everyone in hopes we can get the team on a schedule . hopefully when our ML returns she'll state a yearly plan . and then even years down the road after weve been away from the forum for long spans we can always come back and know therell be a fast going at the start of any new season , and we can rendezvous with old friends - itd be real cool !

goodday :)

I Like your idea, M.R... maybe even every 1-2 months, or maybe a "30-day challenge" or something. That way, people just checking in won't feel they need to wait for the next season to start.

Thanks Soulstar, The thought that maybe Durian wouldn't be the best thing to break my fast dawned on me the more I thought about it. I appreciate you giving me more concrete reasons to go with the Mango or some other juicy fruit. I'd really like to break it with fresh figs. But I don't recall seeing them at the Health Food Stores.

I have a question that perhaps someone out there can help me with. I was thinking of getting a colonic on Tuesday (my last day) before I break the fast. Yet, I'm kinda strapped for cash. How much better is a Colonic than using the Colema board?

soulstar
04-08-2007, 06:49 PM
MR Thanks for your supportive words. I also like the idea of sharing this on a regular schedule with folks. Perhaps the next one could start around the Summer Solstice and continue, as First Garden wisely suggested, for 30 days so folks could jump in late if they just found out about it.

For what it is worth, In regards to ending a fast:
2-3 of the books I have read recommend breaking the fast with either melons or oranges/grapefruits. Organic ones. In my neck of the Northern woods, there are no organic melons yet, so oranges and grapefruits it will be.

Always Striving: Fresh figs sound good, too. I haven't had any in ages, but they are delicious. IMHO, from things I have read, I think the colema board would be fine to use at the end of your fast.I believe a colonic would be preferable before you started a fast.

In his book on Fasting, Dr. Furhman recommends eating the whole fruit, rather than juicing it, as another book I read recommended.
Dr. F feels that having the whole food is best so you can have a good BM.
other sources believe that just having fresh juices for a day or 3 would be best. The choice is up to what feels right to the individual....

Thanks everyone, for being here, and best of luck on all of your fasting journeys!:)

Hi all,

I'm not 100% that this is where I should be posting but as there seems to be a large turnover rate here I thought it would be the best place to get a good response.

I completed a 10 day Master Cleanse (in a way, similar to a 'juice fast' where you drink a concoction of lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne and water whilst completing a salt water flush each day) about a week ago but had to stop because of commitments this Easter with family etc.

I was wondering what people's thoughts were on beginning another 10 day fast to start this Tuesday the 10th? I've had a few opinions saying that it's a bad idea stopping and starting, but I am pretty adamant that this is what my body needs at the moment to start myself onto a path of healthier and more nutritious eating. I guess I'm trying to look for some support for my decision, but haven't come across any just yet.

Thanks (plus it has been rather inspirational reading about everyone's fasting goals).

"I'm not 100% that this is where I should be posting but as there seems to be a large turnover rate here I thought it would be the best place to get a good response."

Hi firsttimer - I think the turnover is due to the transitory nature of fasting. People tend to participate when they are fasting, and feel estranged or somehow unwelcome when they are not. It's like, "Who am I to be posting here? I'm not fasting anymore." But I think people should always feel welcome regardless. Because even if one is not fasting at the moment, they proabaly will again, and many of us will again many times.

Of course it's not a place where we constantly can live, but it is a fine discipline to embrace in our lives, especially in times of great need, for health, and for spiritual vigilance.

Starting & stopping may lurch the system some, but I agree with Soulstar... "The choice is up to what feels right to the individual."

Or as Thoreau said,

"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away."

Henry David Thoreau, Walden

As for support, I think you will find plenty here. I, for one, will be starting again this week, and would be happy to track with you... now that the food events are over.

Sure enough though, like clockwork, the moment we start fasting, people will start breaking out with all kinds of free food... at home, at work.. But at some point we must remain resolute. I tend to have a few false starts. But once I get past day one, I'm good for a distance. And by day four, there are no more "hunger pangs" whatsoever.

Let's fast!

Thanks for your input and support - that would be fantastic if we are fasting around the same time so we could keep track of each other! What are you aims for the fasting and what kind of fasting/how many days are you hoping to achieve?

I plan to start tomorrow on a 10 day master cleanse as this has been the only fast/cleanse which has enabled me to reach further than 4 days. I'm off for lunch with friends now so am getting a bit of social action before I start tomorrow, am feeling a bit apprehensive, but ready.

firsttimer,

I hope to go a real distance. I never went past 19 days, and I'd like to break that record. There is a valid case history of people going great distances like over 100 days. I think I even read of one that went over a year in Dr. Paavo Airola's book on juice fasting. I certainly wouldn't recommend that for everyone, but some remarkable healings have taken place.

I think you will be happy to find there are a few veteran fasters around here like Michigan Roman, Miss Linda and others. Miss Linda is taking a break right now, but there are plenty who will lend their support, and I will be here as well.

So let's fast!

First Timer Best of luck on your Master Cleanse Fast. I have heard folks have had great results with this program. Personally, I prefer not to use maple syrup, since it is highly processed,(often using lard & high temperatures) but it certainly makes the lemon juice/cayenne mixture tastier!;)

I agree with First Garden, that you can eat (or fast) according to your inner guidance. If you had just completed a 40 day fast, and had a weeks break, and then decided to do another 40 day fast, I might suggest a bit more caution. But two shorter fasts in close succession seem less challenging on a healthy person's system.

First Garden
In Dr. F's Book on Fasting, he mentions several long fasts that were fine for folks, in the 5-7 month range, under doctor's supervision. But he also does note, that a heavy person who was fasting for 7 months or so died during his extended fasted. These were strict water fasts, though. Certainly not as calorie/nutrient rich as juice fasts (or even Master Cleanse programs) which include more calories and nutrients, via juice or maple syrup calories.
What kind of a fast will you be undertaking, First Garden? ANd how long are you aiming to go? Best of luck to you on beginning this next fast!:)

This is Day 21 for me, and I am thinking of starting on an all juicy fruit diet to break my fast soon. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Wednesday. I will see how I feel tomorrow morning. Thank you, one and all, for all of your support and presence here, it has been wonderful to have this community support space while achieving the longest fast I have ever achieved before.

Cheers!

soulstar, I don't particulary like the idea of using maple syrup either, but at the moment I don't think I have the will power to not use it if I want to complete these 10 days!

SOULSTAR/FIRSTTIMER , it just dawned on me why not try using fresh juiced pineapple as a sweetener in the master cleanse . or maybe oranges . because i too am against the boiled syrup , wanta talk about a substance thats totally reversing the positive affects of a fast = gummy maple lard sticking to the g.i. tract like pine tar . its totally contradictive . ide opt for processed sugar , which ive already done a few fast , over syrup because of syrups gumminess .

FirstTimer, Congratulations on surviving Day 1. The first 3 days are always the hardest for me.
I understand that the Master Cleanse would be almost impossible without a sweetener, and I know the program insists that Maple Syrup is the best choice. I, personally, Have done my own version of the Master Cleanse, with a raw sweetener. As always, this is a personal choice.

First Timer- continued best of luck on your fast.

First Garden- what type of fast are you planning on beginning? By the way, You're right it all depends upon the pace and purpose of each individual's fast/cleanse. The comment you quoted regarding Dr. Furhman- was his recommendation for how to break a fast, not for the fast itself, which he only recommends water fasting. As you and I agree, water and/or juice fasting is all a matter of degree, pace, and what fits into a person's life at a particular time.

I decided to continue my fast. I have been water fasting for the last 4 or 5 days, and I am on Day 22. I may continue tomorrow, if I feel good in the morning.

Best wishes to everyone here,

Hey Michigan, Soulstar, Firsttimer and all others...

Personally, this thread is one of my alltime faves, but Rawkinlocs made an announcement weeks back about a 10 page limit on threads (for easier reading), and it would be good to honor that.

We all need to migrate to another thread, or someone start a new one.

MR - good insight on maple syrup. I think maybe it's your turn to start a thread, if you like, and we'll all track with you. But I'm open to anyone starting it. I didn't start it cuz I wanted it to be a WE thing, not a me thing. Anyway, I'm so glad you're here!

Soulstar - congratulations on your wonderful fast. To answer your question, I am juice fasting, beginning today. I always drink the heaviest, thickest fluids the first day - especially later in the day when cravings can be the strongest. Of course, these are only stomach contractions, not true hunger pangs. I hope to go a long distance.

Firsttimer - It is so fine to have you with us. Warmest welcome! I think of fasting as a journey. And I keep expectations high, and as such, adjust my senses for the distance. If I drive cross county, it's a good 45 minute drive. But, if I'm taking a trip across the country, before I know it, I've already smoked that county line and am well on my way to the next state. Enjoy the journey!

Trinity - What did you miss? Come back & join us, fasting or not.

Alwaysstriving - hope your fast ended well. I am a strong believer in colonic irrigation, mainly out of the results of modern diet. That seems to make the position "it is not natural" irrelevant. Come visit now & then.

Elizabeth - how ya doin? Come share with us some of your thoughts.

Forgive me if I missed someone. Join us, anyone interested in fasting, either presently or in the future. :)

Okay, I'll think more on it tomorrow, as it is very late now. I'd also like to know what the others think. Thanks for the comps & the confidence, M.R.
BTW, does M.R. mean "an Italian in Michigan?" I was curious because I was raised with Italians in NY and I loved them!

I guess I could be a sort of stand-in for MissLinda til she gets back, which I hope is soon. I'm a natural follower and she's a pioneer. "Lieutenant Firstgarden?" You are sooo funny, M.R. I will try to fit the big shoes.

As for the graphics, she was using Adobe's Photoshop or a similar program. The swiping of faces and "layering" them on to pics is a nice feature, and you can make some incredible collages that way. I use Photoshop a lot and it's an amazing program. I also use iMovie (little brother to Apple's Final Cut Pro which seriously broadsided Adobe's Premiere and left it on the cutting floor). With iMovie, I utilize over 200 transitions (for in-between shots, such as fade outs. Within iMovie, anywhere on that transition, between 2 shots, a "still" or snapshot can be created, which also produces very cool effects. Plus titles, other effects - a nice bag of tricks). Anyway, enough of this techie talk... So far on these threads I've only done some simple funnies. But we can have some real fun with the new convoy of fasters.

Would be nice if Rawcutter could join us, but he's got a pretty rockin thread going as it is. Rawcutter, you are certainly welcome...

Hi everyone!

I would have started a new thread, but I can only seem to locate the "post reply" button at the moment (I'm not really forum-savy) - hopefully someone else can help?

soulstar & michigan roman re: using a substitute to maple syrup... In theory I'm open to this, when I first heard about the use of MS in the cleanse my first thoughts were that it was rather odd and unnatural. The 'lemonade' tends to be a great appetite suppressant, so I'm a bit scared of using something else if it wont have the same effect. soulstar, what did you use a raw sweetener when you cleansed? Also I am curious to know, when water fasting do you still do a salt water flush or something equivalent to a SWF?

FirstGarden glad to hear the juice fasting is going well! I had some weird stomach contractions on Day 1 too... youch!

Anyway, it's Day 2 for me, feeling pretty good, such a difference in difficulty to when I did my first 10 day cleanse. I think because I did the last cleanse so recently, my mindset is still fresh and I still have the will power to know I can do it...

Happy Fasting Everyone:) !

Hi Everyone,

Day 23 for me. Have been water fasting since the weekend.
Firsttimer Good luck through the hardest part, the first several days. As for the last Master Cleanse I did, In place of maple syrup I used really raw and ethically gathered honey. The next time I might try adding a sweet juice, as Michigan ROMAN suggested.

But, overall, I feel that I prefer doing water fasts, and then possibly juice fasts to follow.
So maybe at the Summer Solstice I will do a 7-10 day water fast, followed by a juice fast for another 7 days. ANybody want to think about fasting for the summer solstive?;)

I think I will be breaking the fast tomorrow with oranges and grapefruits for a couple of days and then move on to mangos and plums, and so on. I will be mono eating, and eating fruit lightly, but i will eat the whole fruit, or blend it, not juice it.

I have gathered all of this yummy fruit to break the fast with and it is starting to call my name.:p

First Garden - ENjoy your beginning of juice fasting and I would be pyched for you to start a new thread. Maybe you already have. I will have to check.

See you all soon!

Best wishes to everyone,

Soulstar
