I posted this in my blog and it was suggested to me to make it into a thread, so here it is:

"How do we know what is a food intolerance or a detox symptom. I've heard you can start detoxing immediately after eating a very cleansing and potent food. What if you start to get a migrane after a food, even though it's raw....is this an intolerance or detox??

Something I had for dinner gave me a migrane. It happend right after I ate. Psh, this is annoying"

Any ideas?

well I just commented on this in your blog, but I will put it up for discussion. I ate something I should not have and my lip swelled huge and so did my face, I got a migraine, and passed out. So was I detoxing this bad food or was it a symptom? I think it was the symptom myself, but maybe not <shrugs>

Hi - Is it possible that toxins are at the *root* of the intolerance?

You might never know until your body is suffieciently detoxed.

Meanwhile, experiment, take notes & use the process of elimination until the "problem food" is isolated.

Hope that helps.

Isn't love strange
A word we arrange
With no thought or care
Maker of despair
Each breath that we breathe
With love we must weave
To make us as one
You know it makes me want to cry, cry, cry -

Wished I could be in your heart
To be one with your love

these are just personal thoughts......

first of all, what did you eat?

I believe that the body is ALWAYS detoxifying. I think that "intolerance/tolerance" is depending on a person current health issues and how much their bodily functions can handle/not handle a certain food after consumption.

For example: A person with liver issues may have weak/slow bile and their tolerance to fats may appear to be less tolerable at that time but not neccesarily a health"hazzard" per se.

As Lay Lay described her reaction, those levels of "detox" -you may want to chart the foods and reintroduce them when you notice a steady progression in your food tolerances.

Discomfort from foods is one thing BUT breathing issues and full scale rashes etcd, best to avoid foods until the cleaning and healing of the body is moving in a consistent direction......

Your personal own reactions to foods are going to be best documented and observed by you........

This is fascinating topic Dream~~ I wanna think about this some more.

This is a fascinating topic and one I am very interested in as well. Currently, I am viewing the following things in my diet as intolerances/allergies because of the symptoms they present:

raw nuts(all) - sore/burning throat, post nasal drip, stuffiness, cravings for more

dairy - not an issue on a raw diet
all gluten grains - bloated feeling, extreme fatigue, cravings for more
soy - not an issue on a raw diet
some raw seeds - same sypmtoms as nuts

I am finding that my biggest symptoms are sore throat, post nasal drip and a tired, lethargic feeling...and sometimes nausea...even this morning, I put some flax into my smoothie and now I am having a few "symptoms" - sore throat, constantly having to clear my throat of pleghm (sorry gross), nausea -sypmtoms I do not normally have when I drink the smoothie without flax...hmmmm...

I have always viewed these things as intolerances - not true allergies - but definitely something that adversely affects my body/mind.

I agree that once a person cleans up the terrain of their body, they may very well be able to eat these foods that were once problematic.

Just my thoughts.

Open thought:

I'd imagine this time of the year when the LIVER is opening up for Spring, alot of people will experience some heavier detox or what "appears" to be allergies/intolerances that are leaving the body b/c the LIVER is "awake."

Granted there will be those underlying foods that i will need to be put at the bottom of list until the madness is over. ;)

-You can know by simply repeating the procedure at other times. If it causes the exact same reaction on multiple occasions, then it is probably the food - and not detox. Don't you think?

Miss Linda~
Hi again! What did you mean about the liver opening up cuz it's spring? Why wouldn't it be open all the time?

Warmly,
Mishka

I'm not misslinda nor do i know the answer, but maybe it's because people naturally tend to eat lighter foods in the summer and or less, therefore it allows the liver to begin to cleanse and not work as hard? I could be completley off with my theory lol.

I too find the concept interesting of food intolerances which I believe ONLY occure in an overworked system. Instead of disease the body may be showing signs of toxisity and overload by many food intolerances. Food allergies, on the other hand, I think are more dangerous and there is something real to it ya know? I repeated toinght what I ate last night and no migrane. I also think EXTREME stress last night may have played a part. Didn't think of it at the time as I've NEVER had migranes due to stress. I'm sure all we need to do to heal food intolerances is detox thuroughly and repair the live. Allergies though, I'm not sure. I know that my allergic reactions are getting worse, while the intolerant reactions remain the same degree. Hmm....i'm curious.

i'll add..............

excerpt

Spring: It is the long-awaited change of winter to spring. Seeds sprout, flowers bloom, and the sun warms the earth. There is a sense of renewal and new life all around.

While winter was a time to conserve energy and reduce activity, spring is a time of regeneration, new beginnings, and a renewal of spirit.

Spring time is liver time in both Chinese medicine and in Western traditions, signaling the time for a “liver cleanse”. This follows the laws of nature. With the energy flowing outwards from deep in the body, appropriate exercise, foods and attitudes help clear any toxins accumulated over the winter, gently helping to clear and renew the organs and tissues of the body, like working the soil in the spring to prepare for the new season of planting. We also love to “spring clean” our closets and houses. Clearing out the old, makes way for the new. This allows summer’s period of robust growth to flourish. In summer, it is important to be happy, easygoing, not holding on to grudges; so our energy can flow freely.
