I love all of Alissa's book but one thing...the 4 week meal plan. I made everything in the first week and I didn't like any of it (except for the banana ice cream). I learned a lot from the experience, but I feel bad wasting food.

For the next few weeks, I'd like to try some recipes that a lot of people have liked. I understand that everyone's taste buds are different, but I would like to try something that I at least know a lot of people like. If you could help me out, I'd very much appreciate it.

So your 10 favorite recipies are...

Before I name MY personal favorites, keep in mind that:

1. Yep, everyone's tastebuds are different - what one or many will like, there may be one or many who do not like it.

2. When first trying a recipe for the first time, consider making half or quarter the recipe so there isn't AS much waste.

3. Sometimes your tastebuds will change and things you try now that you don't like, you may find yourself liking later on down the road - this has happened to me with a lot of things.

Okay, here are my favorites (not in any particular order):

1. Nacho cheese (undehydrated, blended WELL in a blender by adding enough water to make it smooth and creamy and for me, it HAS to have jalapeno added)

2. Chile (with or without onion dip, but SO good with a dollup or more of the dip on it)

3. Onion dip - I make it with cashews, but I've had it with macs and it's good both ways. I LOVE this dip with the chile, with carrot and celery sticks or with flax crackers dipped in it.

4. Pizza but I use either the "Easy" crust (with the buckwheat) or the calzone crust/dough recipe as the crust and I vary the toppings.

5. Date nut torte

6. Strawberry crepes

7. Banana-Flax crackers WITH almond butter spread on them and maybe banana slices.

8. Pad Thai - This is SO good...I love the sauce!

9. Calzone - though I can't eat a LOT of it, but it's good.

10. Blueberry Cheesecake - Haven't made it in a long time, but it's really good!

I'm still fairly new to this, but here are mine. (Also in no particular order)

1. Banana icecream

2. The Angel hair pasta recipe (but with fettucine shaped zucchini)

3. A massive green salad with the lemon/apple cidar/honey dressing

4. Lettuce wraps with guacamole dip, tomato, cucumber and other things

5. Chocolate pudding with banana

6. Date nut torte

7. Green smoothie with apple, cucumber, spinach, and any other things I can find

Ohh, I couldn't make it to ten. I did try the carrot cake and loved it, but then I made an even bigger version next time and barely ate one bite. I was really turned off it all of a sudden.

These are what I like the most from Alissa's book:
raw ravioli
carrot pecan burgers with curry sauce
strawberry crepes
corn chowder
banana crackers
nacho cheese
pesto stuffed mushrooms
almond milk
chocolate turtles
There is one recipe for cheesecake (not in the book) that is fabulous that I make a lot - the recipe is on this board somewhere - I think it's raspberry cheesecake. Also other recipes I found that are excellent are the onion bread, RP's brownies, eggplant as bacon, & raw egg salad.:)

WOW! those recipes in the first week are what I make all the time. The mock salmon pate, date nut tort, etc.. are you sure you made them correctly??

Can you post what you didn't like about them?
Too rich? Too many nuts? Too creamy? Not enough flavor? Too much flavor?
Some people prefer to just eat fruits and veggies, with very little other stuff - you might be one of them. Or you might the type of person who prefers recipes that have very strong flavors - like curries, etc.
If you post the types of foods that you do enjoy, we might be able to suggest some of our favorite recipes that will fit with your preferences.

I too am only in the first week of Alissa's 4 week meal plan, but have been raw for a while now. I made the pad Thai for dinner tonight and OMG it was SOOOOO good. I really just want to go back and DRINK the sauce....all of it...its really tempting too.

1. Pad Thai *****
2. Collard Wraps
3. Mock Salmon Pate
...

thats it so far lol. I can't eat any fruit or sugary stuff b/c I'm on a parasite cleanse so I'm totally missing the date nut torte (I LOVE dates) and the banana ice cream...16 more days till I can eat fruit again...then I'm making every dessert I can find and eating only those for a week to catch up ;)

I have to say, so far the only recipe i didn't like was the Fetuccini Alfredo. It just didn't do it for me. Mind you, I don't like the SAD version either.

3. Lasagna from Raw Food Real World
4. Chocolate macaroons
5. Chocolate cheesecake
6. Warm apple pie with alomond cream
7. Banana cream pie
8. Guac stuffed portabellas
9. Strawberry crepes
10. Chili Lime Doritos
11. Cacao Bean (raw hot chocolate drink)
12. really raw oatmeal with warm almond milk
13. pear/pinapple/coconut water smoothie
14. salmon pate
15. mock salmon sushi (from RAW: the uncook book)
16. Taco chips with nacho cheese

oh man I guess I have more than 10! LOL I could probably name a few more if I thought about it. Though those are just my favorite recipes - not to mention things you can just eat "straight" like raisins, olives, granny smith apples, pineapple, strawberries, cucumbers.....

Suddenly I don't sound very picky  but really I am! As rule I don't even LIKE vegetables!! LOL

HTH

Blessings~

I hear ya gurl, we all just have to figure out what we like. The more recipes you try though, the easier it will be to read recipes and tell if you will like them or not.

Let's see... 10 faves from alissa's book
in no particular order..

1. Ravioli

2. Marinara sauce

3. Broccoli Soup

4. Banana Papaya Pudding

5. Alissa's dressing

6. Carrot Pecan burgers w/ curry sauce

7. Macadamia Nut Fudge Cookies

8. Flax Crackers

9. Blueberry Pie

10. Caesar Salad Dressing #1

I trust her book, and I have liked most of the recipes. It's funny though, becuase everyone on the forum RAVES about the date nut torte, or the mock salmon pate.. and I didn't like either of them! It's just two things though, so start with the easy recipes and get a feel for it. In the beginning just having one pate, soup, & dressing is enough if they are FAB!

Enjoy!! This is the fun part :)

I know what you mean about coming off of eating cooked and then trying a lot of raw recipes. It can be a huge adjustment. You may want to keep it simple for a while and eat lots of salads and cut up fruit. However, Here are some of my favorites not in order:

Broccoli Soup
Corn Chowder Soup
Pizza made with calzone crust and mozzarella cheese
blueberry pie
Sweet and Sour Coleslaw with apples & sunflower seeds added

Raw Grawnola with oat groats, almonds, walnuts, & peacans, apples, cinnamon, agave & raisens mixed up in food processor & then dehydrated for about 12 hours

Alissa's marinara sauce with red and yellow bell peppers
Carrot peacan burgers with curry sauce (essential - a must have sauce)
Cheesecake recipe on this board
Raw fudge recipe on this board
Refried Bean Recipe on this Board
Large Salads with tons of veggies & raspberry vinegarette dressing
Smoothies - all types made with fresh juice

Hi. Well, the date nut torte reminded me of heavy choco-fudge-like desert. My doctor discouraged me from eating chocolate (for medical reasons) and i lost the love for it. Over the past few days I've found that i like food simple with strong flavors, like marinaded portabellas (loooove!) or tomatoes with seasoning. I love bananas and fruits in my smoothies also. I like green smoothies too, but I hate cleaning up afterwards. :o

Maybe in a few years i'll come back to the first week recipes and find out that i'll like them. :)

Thank you very much

It took me a while to develop a taste for this different way of eating, but now I am head over heals with it. You do learn eventually how to tweak recipes to your taste and which foods sit well in your tummy and which ones do not. With that in mind, have fun and keeping trying...

1) Blueberry Pie
2) Blueberry Pie
3) Blueberry Pie (did I say blueberry pie yet?)
4) Cilantro Vinagrette
5) Corn Chowder and Creamy Pea Soup (I lived on this stuff when I first went raw)
6) Pad Thai (really nice)
7) Marinara (I've not found a better one)
8) Collard Wraps (this is something I thought I would not like at all)
9) Chili with...
10) Onion Dip (it's the bomb!)

Here are some from my web site, therawtable.com (http://therawtable.com), that are a few of my favorites - not trying to steal you away from Alissa's book of course (it's still my all-time favorite raw book), just a few extra suggestions:

Mock Chicken Salad (I live on the stuff)
Raisin Fudge Brownies
Beet Ravioli (I really like Alissa's, but the turnips don't agree with me)
Apple Cobbler
Chocolate Pudding
Nut Crumble Cookies
Orange Sesame Salad Dressing

And on a more simple note:
dehydrated persimmon slices
dates stuffed with almond butter
guacomole
pink grapefruit from the Texas valley

Hope this helps some!

I can totally understand how you feel if youre new to raw. I was the same way in the beginning. It took me about a month or so for my tastes to change and then I started craving raw foods instead of cooked. My favorites are:
Pasta w/ marinara (I add lightly dehydrated mushroom, onion, and yellow peppers)
Mock salmon pate
pauls pate
collard roll ups
stuffed portobellas
guacamole
pizza (I use the calzone crust but change the seasonings)
calzone is divine
banana flax crackers
ceasar dressing 1
Alissa's dressing
mudslide
lemon pudding
apple pie
fudge balls
onion dip
chili (from Rainbow Green Live Foods) posted in this forum by Yani
RP's brownies w/ storebought frosting (recipe posted here)
Rawkinlocs cinnamon pecan rolls
Rawkinlocs Peach delight
Rawkinlocs refried beans
Carmella's Pad Thai is delicious (I add mung bean sprouts)
meatloaf posted here by Healthisraw1
corn salad posted here by me, Jen

Wow, Im starving now!!! This is day 3 of fasting for me so I better high-tail it outta this thread before I eat something. Good luck to ya!!
