Anyone else out there planning to walk (or run) a Marathon this year?

I'll be doing my first Half Marathon in November, the Seattle Marathon. I am really excited and know it will be a blast! I am trying to recruit a few friends to do this with me and have some interest already.

I am not a runner but love walking and hiking, and exercise daily (at the health club or outdoors) and would like to walk a full Marathon for my 50th birthday in 2008 so this is my year to work up to it!

I just wanted to see if anyone else is doing any long walking events this year, your thoughts on training, eating, shoes, or anything you'd like to share!

I am planning on a 1/2 marathon- hoping (crosses fingers) that I can get back into shape to do a full marathon.

Ooohhh....the Seattle Marathon!!!! I did the 1/2 the year before last and I absolutely loved it! :D I've also done the Seafair but I was a bit disapointed with it.

Advice? Hmm...what kind are you looking for??
Training: I trained myself
Shoes: I get mine from Shoes N Feet because I have crazy feet and am limited to like 2-4 styles period!!!
Eating: Have not ran a marathon raw yet- high raw, yep but not all raw

there's a great article in this month's issue of "On Fitness" on walk-a-thons...full on race-walking for super distances! Good advice for training, diet, gear and so forth. Coincidentally, there's an article on going raw too! In the last few months, I have seen raw diet articles in LOTS of mainstream fitness media...HAve you all been noticing that too?

called "Chi Walking"

Good for energizing your distance walking from the quantum level. There's also a "sister" book called "Chi Running"
