Hey my lovely raw friends! I just got my juicer in the mail today and tomorrow I begin a 14-30 day juice feast. I am sooo excited and I love eating/ drinking this way so I'm not really worried about sticking to it. I am, however, a bit worried about all these horrible detox symptoms everyone talks about. Also, I want to quit smoking. I want to do it at the same time without using nicotine patches but I'm not sure I can. :o I'll try my darndest though! Does anyone else have any experience with juicing and stopping smoking at the same time???

Hi MorningRuby... hope all is going well for you with this. From what I have read, fasting can help with overcoming addiction. With smoking, it has been said that the withdrawal is less severe. There is quite a bit of fasting info on the thread... Fasting Support that may be helpful to you.

Cheering you on... :p

I've read in quitting smoking books that the more alkaline the less the withdrawl. Apparently acidic foods speed up the elimination of nicotine too quickly causing severe withdrawl and cravings. People tend to smoke more while drinking alcohol and coffee due to the acidity. If you want to alkaline your body start juicing kale and other leafy greens.

hi morning ruby , welcome to the site :)

just a rough idea on this topic is that i know with the nicotine withdrawls people feel nervous / jittery and want a teeth yellowing device ;) to help relax . well ive read the late raw foodist norman walker say celery is good to strengthen / nourish the nervous system .

and ide also say if your not already start running or get a jump rope in order to start strengthening your lungs and heart , while at the same time making yourself aware when / if you do hit a cig of the damage its doing to your lung capacity . then youll get mad at cigarettes . replace smoking with running .

Thank you everyone for your support! When I went about 90% raw a little over a year ago, I wasn't even trying to quit smoking or drinking coffee but my desire for both went away after only a week or so, so I'm hoping the same happens this time. I'm already noticing that I could care less for the coffee. I was doing all green smoothies and ginger tea for about a week and a half, now I'm trying to juice everything for at least 2 weeks. I want to eat something pretty badly right now, just for the chewing habit I think, but I'm sticking to my juice.

Hi,

Truth of the matter is that we are all born into sensory addiction; Sugar, chemicals, cooked foods, caffein, alcohol, nicotine, pharmaceutical drugs etc., etc. The thing is all of these drugs, as well as being harmful and addictive create acidity within the body. You see when you are in an acid state you can get over acidic and the body desires a bit of alkalinity which can be achieved by the 'abuse' of alkaloid drugs, ie smoking tobacco or Cannabis. This creates a temporary state of alkalinity which then can cause a desire to ingest acidic foods again. Get alakilne (Lots of wild green juices) and the desire to be in an acid state diminishes.

Start your day with as Green a juice as you can handle.
