View Full Version : A Newbie in Georgia

I hail from Georgia- land of boiled-to-death vegetables and deep fried everything else.
I've progessively been becoming vegan over the past year. Fish (which I eat 1-2x/month) is my "final frontier." I became interested in eating more raw foods about a year and a half ago when I read Carol Alt's book on raw diets, but I made no serious moves towards learning to prepare new, raw meals.
Since that time, I've become more adventurous with my meal preparation. I'm essentially unemployed so with all this free time on my hands I have no excuse not to try to prepare new dishes. Besides eating naturally is waaay cheaper than eating processed gunk.
I try to at least start our day raw, but need some ideas beyond the banana-strawberry smoothies I seem to make every other day. So here I am looking for recipes- especially if they are kid friendly. My daughter (age 7 whom I homeschool) is used to natural foods, but I've been slack with raw foods.
Looking forward to "getting to know" you.

Welcome vegan2be,
I’m living on green smoothies so I’m not gonna be much help in the recipe department but you’re gonna find a ton of recipes at this site and so many friendly helpful people. Let us know how you progress on your raw food journey. :)

Welcome to the board! I've been vegan for almost 11 months and I love it. it's great that your daughter is used to natural foods. There are plenty of parents in the Raising Raw kids forum who'd be happy to share recipies!
N GA in the hizzous.....
Any of you GA peeps from the Athens area? We have a raw potluck once a month there.....
Unfortunatly, no, I'm in Brunswick - a raw potluck sounds awesome though!

I'll be moving to Dallas, GA next month! We are currently in Augusta. Can't wait to get out that way! If dh is up for it (which he probably would be), I wouldn't mind hosting some raw potlucks at my house if anybody is up for it!

I'm not too far from Dallas- about 20-30 minutes. Welcome to this side of Georgia. I'm liking the raw potluck idea.

Welcome Vegan2Be
Enjoy your journey into the world of Living Foods. I am sure many here would also recommend Alissa's incredible Living Foods Uncookbook for great recipe ideas. You will certainly find lots of recipes and helpful information on this wonderful site. It is helpful that your daughter already likes natural foods.
I don't know if you have tried this very simple recipe, but I make this often for myself as a quick breakfast or between meal snack.
Raw Applesauce
I put an apple, a couple of dates or a handful of raisins, and a dash of cinnamon into the food processor and make a yummy raw applesauce.
It's not fancy, but it is another way to eat a raw food in a way that resembles a cooked food, but is 10 times healthier for you, IMHO.:p
There are also many yummy fruit desserts that are healthy to make for children. Some of them you will find here, many in Alissa's book.
Blessings on your journey!
