Anybody use goji berries?
Looking for ideas/recipes for using them besides
just eating them straight.
TIA :)

Hi, Punky :),

Are Goji berries good? I'm purchasing these from Natural Zing on my next order. For some reason, I get the feeling they are sour-ish like cranberries; is that so?
I wonder -- do you think they can be used like raisins? Maybe in a salad or fruit mix? I was thinking of using them in dressings maybe, but I don't know; I have to taste them first. I remember seeing this recipe; it's simple, though, and I'm not sure if this is any help to you :)

Here is that recipe from the Natural Zing site. (Interesting how we're encouraged not to eat too many at once!):

Please respect that the raw Goji Berry is a nutritionally dense, medicinal food. A therapeutic dose would be 1 to 2 handfuls or 10 to 30 grams per day however more can be eaten depending on individual needs. These raw goji berry treats are a great source of protein too.

Fresh Goji Berry Juice

1/4 cup goji berries, (1 oz)
2 cups water
optional: 1/4 cup fresh blackberries, raspberries or blueberries

1. Soak berries in water for 4 hours or more, overnight is fine
2. Blend in blender until well blended, optionally you can add some fresh fruit as listed above or apple, mango and/or banana.
3. Share with a friend

If additional sweetness is desired you can add some Raw Premium Organic Agave Nectar

i got mine from nature's first law. on their website they describe them as tasting like a cranberry-raisin...i would say that is pretty close. i like them. not too sweet, not too tart. kinda chewy but yet still firm. i think they would make a gr eat addition to raw granola/trail mix. i usually eat them alone.

i aso like them this way:
1T gojii berries
1T cacao nibs
1T shredded coconut
1T honey

stir and put in freezer for a few minutes. mmmmmm.

Thank you Heather, Vegan Vixen, and jaurequi for your replies.
What great ideas! I will try them all.
I think they do taste sorta like cranberry/raison too; but
there's another slight flavor too that is unique I think to them.
I find I don't eat too many just by themselves, so the recipe ideas
are a great help.
I think I will make the goji berry juice for breakfast tomarrow.
And the coconut cacao mixture sounds divine Heather.
I've always wanted to make a raw granola for breakfast
but haven't got around to it yet...great idea Vegan Vixen.
