When I move next week, I want to start growing and drinking wheatgrass juice. I have read Ann's book, however I would like to know other peoples experience on wheatgrass. Has it turned your hair back from gray? Do you have more energy?? Did you see any dramatic health impovements when you started drinking it? Did it clear up your skin? And if you did see health improvements, how long did you drink the wheatgrass before you started to see results??

YES to all the questions. I noticed immediately when I started incorporating wheatgrass into my daily diet. More energy, vitality, hair got better, skin glowed more.
Word of caution though - some folks can't tolerate it. I find it to taste like a mild licorice flavor. I drink about 1.5-2 ounces in the morning on an empty stomach. If I were you? I'd start out w/just about half that and see how it sets in your tummy. You may do fine. I did. But some folks it upsets them.
Cool!!!

If I've been eating unhealthy food and drink wheat grass juice, I feel like barfing. I can only access it an ounce at a time from a local cafe. Now I drink a shot and get energized and feel good off of even that little bit. Wish I had the space to grow my own.

I found it very energizing when i was drinking it each day in the same way as VeganForLife describes. Then I lapsed. Reading this has reminded me how good it was and makes me want to start growing and juicing it again.

I have taken wheatgrass for several months at a time. It's been no better than green smoothies, in my opinion; in fact smoothies are better. I put it in green smoothies sometimes, though, which is nice.
I don't know if a longer protocol would have yielded an advantage.

It's easy to grow and nice to have around. Good luck on that :)

Here's what I did so far:
sprouted wheatberries, threw them on top of soil, have green shoots growing every which way and no way could I ever trim this unless I did one here and one there. So, what's next on this project.

Now...I figured a gluten for punishment..kidding....but got another large jar of sprouted wheatberries that are ready for the soil. Any tips on doing this right....they seem to be all together in a clumb in the large gallon size jar.

Any recipes you can suggest as I hated the buns I made that I believe came from Cherie Soria's book. It wasn't her recipe, but me hating wheatberries taste and smell. They came out like bricks and called them wheat nuggets or crumbs that I sampled on some people at the massage bed place I go to. They loved it. See different taste buds. Help with more recipes too please....can I throw some really into my smoothie???????????????

My facialist swears by it. She said she had really bad cystic acne and started drinking it regularly and her skin is clear now. She has her own juicer in her office. I love the way it tastes. Sweet. But I've never drank it consistently enough to tell you anything grand.

I have been doing about 6 oz a day, 3 in the morning and 3 at night for about a month. The texture of my skin has completely changed, I never break out anymore, and I glow, not to mention the high I get everytime I drink some. I didn't really notice the energy increase until I started doing 3 oz at a time. I don't think i will ever stop drinking it becasue of the difference in my skin.

I have heard by many Raw food gurus Wheatgrass can be as amazing as the soil its grown in. Grow it in amazing dirt and it will be incredibly valuable :D One question, to juice it at home do you need a Wheatgrass juicer ? Or will my Omega work ?

What has wheat grass done for me? It's made me disgusted! I tried some a few years ago, a little cup from a smoothe restaurant. I hated it! Sorry wheatgrass fans, but it tastes WAY too much like lawn to me!

It tastes like lawn because it is lawn. But I drink it anyways because it boosts my immune system. When I'm following a good raw diet and drinking w/g, I don't catch colds and flus, not to mention it helps my skin a lot.

Wheatgrass has burned my stomach, my esophogas, given me reflux, and made me sick to my stomach.

This is ONE raw thing that is NOT good for me... I've tried it several times.
No thank you! :) You go right ahead....:p

Energy and good BM's- the quick and neat ones that is!

I just cut a handful of it and throw it in my shakes . I buy the little individual flat from Wild Oats and water it every few days.

Do you think I'm getting all the benefits by blending instead of juicing?

I've only had it in smoothies so I never tasted it.

when i had my wisdom teeth pulled, i had really bad swelling and bleeding, so i decided to rinse my mouth with wheatgrass juice, and within 15 minutes the bleeding had stopped. it helped me recover much more quickly than i think i would have otherwise.

Wheatgrass is too fiberous for the body to break down. It even says that in Ann Wigamores book. You must juice it to get the full health benefits from it. Just grinding it up does not cut it. The body will not break down the grass. I have only drank wheatgrass a few times from a friend who grows it, but I did read Ann Wiganores book on wheatgrass.

well i wish i could have the wonderful benefits of wheatgrass like so many other people have..but it always ends up making me break out, and i never get that energy boost. probably something to do with my body having a hard time digesting it. i do much better on juiced celery and parsley. just me though..and my bodys unique, to say the least..

I'm afraid to try it as I'm gluten intolerant...is it actually 'wheat'?

I believe you are safe since the wheat"grass" is cut before the wheat"berry" (which contains gluten) is formed!

Damzlfly,

Dont't worry, according to reliable chemical analysis there is no gluten in wheatgrass juice.

Sometimes in the summer I just grab a handful of grass that I can count on being clean and slowly chew like a cow on her cud and spit out the fiber at the end. I figure it's the ultimate way to consume wheat grass 'cause that way I'm really mixing it with saliva. Unfortunate about the green teeth afterwards..... ha ha

My family started me on wheatgrass. My parents and brother have worked at Optimum and Hippocrates. My brother is a master grower, and grows the grass for Hippocrates in Florida. When you drink "good grass", you realize how many people are drinking bad grass. And that leads to feeling sick after. Here are some benefits of wheatgrass. A small list......
Wheatgrass contains 70% chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the first product of light, therefore, contains more light energy than any other element. Chlorophylll is the basis of all plant life...is an antibacterial....rebuilds the bloodstream....restores fertility.....gets into the tissues, refines them and makes them over.....detoxification product.....15 pounds of wheatgrass is the equivalent of 350 pounds of carrots, lettuce, celery, and so forth....washes drug deposits from the body....helps purify the liver....improves blood sugar problems....prevents tooth decay....good for sore throat....great for skin problems....keeps the hair from graying...improves digestion...reduces blood pressure.....

Drinking wheatgrass juice saved my life. It put oxygen in my body and in my home when my gas heater was venting inside the house!!! I should've died. It also helped pull heavy toxins out of my body.

Unfortunately, I cannot get good grass where I live. But I am currently working on that....stay tuned......it may help you too.......

Raw Mom,
Wow you are sold out wheatgrass. I love your posts always about the grass. I always see them as exciting reading.

I have a friend who went to Optimum recently, loved the program, and at home found out she is allergic to the wheat so stopped growing the grass. Sadly she said she feels better eating some meat now too.

Your brother's site is amazing. Here is his site you shared:
http://www.hippocratesgreenhouse.com

Now Michael has a large extended family and doesn't even know it.

I've never taken a liking to it, so this is a contrary post. I don't think it's meant as a food for the human race, but on the other hand it's healthier than so many other things so to each his own.

I just started juicing wheatgrass last week, basically on accident because my boyfriend let the wheatberry sprouts go too long and it turned into grass!

The benefits for both of us were immediate! I was having bad cramps during my monthly and they did subside. My boyfriend's skin got even clearer, as did mine, and I am already noticing a slight change in my complexion...the fine lines are fading even more, and my skin really seems smoother, perhaps a little more "shiny". I immediately got a rush after drinking it...I drank 2 oz. on an empty stomach and felt a sort of "high"...I had so much energy.

I really think it depends on the person. It sounds like it is really right for some people, and not so right for others. I could tell when I drank it that it was exactly what my body needed. Since then, we have been juicing it every morning and incorporating the juice into our smoothies. I think the only way to know is to give it a try.

luna99, you need a power juicer, like the one Alissa sells. A regular juicer will not work. The wheatgrass doesn't contain that much juice anyway, and when it's served to you, it's usually by the ounce.
There are also inexpensive manual wheatgrass juicers that are the old way of juicing it, which is still very efficient.(Look here for a manua (http://www.healthnutalternatives.com/basicsj27.htm)l)
A little container should yield about 1/2 ounce.

wheatgrass made my skin look super smooth...bright....and clear....it had never looked better....i barely used any product at that time....it just looked and felt like it was totally balanced....a little moisturizer, thats it...at that time people told me a was glowing more that ever...

i just cant stomach the stuff anymore....it makes me so nauseous.....so for whatever reason my body is just saying no right now....

it was also a beautiful intentinal broom....great digestive aid....

Yes, I feed it to my cat by the dropper full. He recently had a bladder infection(he was stressed when I left him to go on vacation), so I've been putting more down his little throat.
I don't believe it was meant to put in a blender. The maximum benefit is from juicing. Some people chew it and then spit out the pulp.
I also believe, when you liked it in the past, but can't stomach it now, it is more emotional, than physical. Like your mind doesn't want it, NOT your body. Just like raw food sometimes is for me. I went through it too. I remember when I was juicing for about two weeks, every day, and then I just couldn't put it to my lips. My Dad called, and I asked him, what's up with that? He said, Oh, it's just emotional. I practically jumped out of my skin and grabbed his throat through the phone!!! Oh, sorry Dad, I guess you could be right?
Take a break from it, or mix with a little water to get it down and then "sit with" the emotions, just like many of us had to when we first went raw.

If you are juicing it yourself...don't forget about the pulp. It can be used to clear out the lungs, heal open sores, even help gums grow back in your mouth!! Make a pack out of it and tape it to any body part. I put it on my daughter's chest when she had the croup. Just having it grow in your house, near you anywhere, is healing. Bringing oxygen into the air.:D :D :D

I started drinkging 2lbs of wheatgrass per week about 3 years ago. I haven't been sick since. That was fresh wheatgrass. I don't drink it that much anymore. For some reason one day I just got turned off to the taste of it. Too much sweetnes. The pro's say that outdoor grass isn't as sweet as try grown. I would agree with that. The very first time I drank wheatgrass was in the summer of '89 . I was entering my senior year of highschool. I bought a six or four pack of the frozen kind that you can get @ the HFS. After drinking the first one I drove to work . About 3 miles into the drive I came to a set of traffics lights. I was probably cranking Slayer or Metallica @ the time. While waiting for the light to turn green I realized I was trying to rip the steering wheel out of the car.
I knew then that Wheatgrass was something special.

In Victoria Boutenko's "Green for Life" book - she explains that people are intolerant of wheatgrass juice due to the lack of hydrochloric acid in their stomachs. Once we drink enough green smoothies, or eat enough greens over time your stomach will produce enough hydrochoric acid to tolerate and digest the wheatgrass juice. She herself could not tolerate wheatgrass juice, and made the discovery after research and using other people to test her theory.

Thanks for reminding us, jnoelj. I had forgotten that, and I looked it up (The last part of chapter thirteen, "Healing powers of chlorophyll").

Victoria Boutenko couldn't tolerate wheatgrass juice even after her "wheatgrass dance", saying a special prayer, clipping her nose, and other tricks.

Then she made her discovery:
"After drinking green smoothies regularly for one year, I was offered a shot of wheatgrass and unexpectedly, loved it!"

i was at whole foods last week and the juice guy said frozen wheat grass does no good because it oxidizes, and the lady he was talking to started the convo by saying that that it did nothing for her while the fresh made her feel great. so my question is whats the deal with frozen wheatgrass and if it doesnt work then why is the frozen wheatgrass resource in the back of alissa's book. peace

this made me laugh :D

I am interested in growing/drinking wheat grass. Where do you buy seeds? And will a Champion juicer work??
