Ugh... After being a 100% for almost 2 years, youwoulda thought by now I woulda had this worked out.

A lil pissed because, I purchased 9 heads of Kale, 6 heads of Collards, etc... I make super green smoothies, Not with 9 and 6 each day, lol - but a couple.

Anyways 2 days after purchasing, They were all nasty and starting to turn yellow. Now anyone knows when this happens they become nasty / bitter.

All I did was put them in my fridge in the plastic bags they came in ( I order from an organic delivery farm) I would usually use 2 a day of each in a smoothie. But damn, I had to throw out like 5 heads of kale, and like 4 of the collards. But the romaine,, good ol romaines still holding up.

Everytime I would open the bag, it was dripping with water... I have tried those green bags, and wasn't impressed. Should I be putting paper towels around the greens then put them back in the bags??? Urgh! let me know some tips!

Gosh! Sorry to hear that. When I first joined my organic co-op I was splitting cases of "things" with another gal. Mind you - it's ONLY me. What I did was blend up the spinach and freeze it. Now I have ready jars for my Green Smoothies.
I use Tupperware's Fridgesmart for the produce I eat all week. I'm not a consultant - puleeze, would never be, but these products really, really work. They have humidity controls on the side to allow the proper humidity to happen. I don't know what I'd do without them. Plus I'm not using plastic bags and contributing to the overfilled landfills.
I find that organic produce does spoil much quicker, so I've gotten used to that and prepare my foods accordingly. BTW - I do not split cases anymore. It was waaaaay too much for me!

"I’m using FIT to clean my fruits and veggies. When I go shopping I wash all my greens and pack them up in Evert-Fresh bags. I also put one paper towel in the bag. This combo will keep greens (and other produce) amazingly fresh for weeks."

Hey.. Thanks veganforlife... Was wondering if that tupperware is big and bulky? My fridge isnt so big with all the jars and stuff with nuts in them.

Thanks Ella, I actually used those green bags, and wasn't that impressed, especially with having to clean them. LOL. But we shall see...

I have several different ways that I store produce.
1.All my leafy greens either get put in a plastic bag with holes. (My organic farmer usually sells these, or gives us a few weekly for free. They are reusable. The holes allow for air circulation which is important.
2.I also use a E.G.G in my produce bins. It stands for "ethylene gas guardian." It helps keep my produce fresher longer. I do not store my leafy produce in my produce bins though.
3.I also store my leafies in a colander , then insert the colander into a huge tupperware bowl that is sealed.
4. Finally, for lettuce that is already washed and spinned...I keep inside my salad spinner with the lid on inside my fridge.

All of my lettuce and greens usually last for a week and a half to two weeks long with these storage methods.

The only time I lose my leafies, greeens and produce to rot, is when I leave them in the plastic bags I get at the supermarket. :D

One of our members freezes her greens for smoothies. I've done this if greens are starting to go bad... works great! :D

INteresting Romantic- Does the egg only work in the produce bins, cant I put them above the bins? Cuz I too, dont put the greens in the produce bins... They never fit. I usually put my apples, or oranges in the bins, Never greens.

Hmm I will do a search later for bags and see what i come up with. Gotta make workout and make a green smoothie before it dies! LOL... Runs! lol

I just measured the biggest TW container - it's 14.5 inches long by 5 inches tall. They have different sizes. I usually have the big one, the next size and then the smaller one in my fridge with all the bags of nuts and a salad spinner and a huge jar of sauerkraut! It's crazy in there! Click on the picture to enlarge it, then hit your back button. I can pack a mean fridge!

Your greens turned really quickly... I haven't had that happen before. Several quick ideas... a few paper towels with the greens can help catch the extra moisture and keep greens fresh longer. Also, I've cut a few slits in regular ziplocs when I ran out of the breathable produce ziplocs... worked fine. Lastly, I use Green's Extra Life (round green disks). They work well for keeping produce longer... say to replace every 3 months... although I use mine longer.

When I juice fasted last year, I kept alot of chard, kale in paper bags in my frig. I just made sure I trimmed them and kept them moist.

I removed the very bottom drawer and placed two paper grocery bags in there.

I bought a sald dryer bag
http://www.silvermk.com/products.cfm
...scroll down the page a bit....
I wash my greens and put then in there, they say you don't need to dry them first, but I do spin mine first.
Holds a ton of greens and when full fitsd nicely in one of the bottom drawers of my fridge.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just bought two of these. I’d love to skip the spin dry part of cleaning greens. I’ll write a post about how I like them.

Yes, I have a large basket on one of my shelves that I put extra produce in. I put the E.G.G. in there as well. :)

My hubby is really mad because he says that he gets a tiny drawer for all of his stuff (lunchmeat and his S.A.D. food), while the fridge is over run by my fresh produce. I asked him to start buying all the stuff he wants and I would make room for it, but he then realized that most of the stuff he eats, only fits in that little drawer amyways, while the rest of his "food" fills the cabinets, pantry and freezer. I had a good laugh over that one.

Thanks everyone. So that bag is needing my attention. It only mentions salads tho. What about any type of veggie? Green leaf's only?

Also, Where do you all store your cucumbers, onions, garlic? Do you leave um out? I usually do.

Also with the lettuce and stuff... I read somewhere you should only chop and cut before you're going to eat it... Will that bag hold whole heads well? Sounds creepy. ahah! But I dont usually ever cut my greens until I eat um.

My friend who delivers organic produce, he told me you can take green, cut a little off the stem and soak them in cold water to revive ones that are starting to wilt. It's worked for me so far!
