OK, so, doesn't anyone know where I can get TRuLY raw oats?

Most every store I have come across sells what they call raw, but they are all steamed... I am getting SO frustrated because I want to make some oatmeal cookies and oatmeal for myself and children for after their lessons instead of the baked and cooked kind, but if I don't come across some raw ones soon, i will sadly have to resort to the steamed ones,:(

I did a search, but i am looking for truly raw ones. Nobody seems to know that most of the "raw" ones in the health specialty stores aren't truly raw, and they are using them anyway... i want raw raw raw !

There. Now that I have come down off my pedestal.... do any of you'all know a good source, pretty please? thank you.

You should contact her because it says:
" 1lb bag
flaked to order
Most oats you find on the market and in health food stores are heat treated with steam or infra red light to extend the shelf life even though they say they are raw.

THESE oats are truly raw oats. They are freshly ground from whole oats in small batches. Im so excited! RAW OATS! Can you believe it? Well, it’s true, now you can have your cereal and eat it too! "

Perhaps you can tell them that you want them whole.

You can buy hulless oats-oats grown naturally without hulls. THey are truly raw because they are not processed to have the hulls removed since they don't have hulls. I'm sprouting them right now, and roots are coming out of them. sunorganic.com carries them.

M.R. the roller type thing I have is made in Italy and It's medioneo or someting like that. I know that if you wait maybe Rawkinlocks will asnwer that one as she is the one who reccomended it to me. Mine is in storage at the moment so I would have to do a search.

Do raw oats have a bitter taste sort of? Linda, do your oats taste bitter? Every time I have gotten my oats from SunOrganic and rolled them, they have a slightly strongish/bitterish taste have you noticed that?

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! i am wondering if Alissa buys hers from Sun Organic?

I was just about to post a thread about this very topic... does that mean that all the organic this and that that has "rolled oats" has already been steamed or something like that!? I actually didn't buy them because the store's owner wasn't sure. He also felt like I needed to hear his two cents about eating raw, in which I politely told him I was not interested (but that's a topic for a whole other thread!)...

If you E-mail the company they will tell you if the product is raw. I use arrowhead Mills organic oat groats and I have asked them about some of their products and they were raw. Someone in this group said that they threw some oat groats in their garden and they eventually sprouted. I haven't tested them myself. I have stopped being fanatical about every thing I eat and I still feel great even though I am not one hundred percent raw.

Hope this helps
Tom

I always get my oat groats from Alissa's site. I used them for oatmeal cookies. I tried a few other inventions in the past, but didn't really like them because I think the groats were a little bitter eaten as is. Once I used the processor to grind the oats into flour for cookies (trying out a crust for a dessert really soon) I loved them. I think that the oat groats flaked, will be a good oatmeal.

Why wouldn't the whole oat groats be raw? Or is it just the rolled/flaked oats that you guys are thinking of?
I have a bucket full of organic oat groats, and I'd definately consider them raw, even if I flaked them since I have my own flaker attachment with my wheat grinder.

im just reading up on this recently and am not sure but heres what ive read . some oat groats are heated in order to make hull removal easier . some groats though have the hulls removed with high pressure streams of air or they are removed by an abrassive technique , which i believe in these 2 cases means no heat was used . but it varies by farm so the only way you know is by contacting farm . or trying to sprout your groats to test them .

maybe that works for tom but only 2 weeks into this i have gotten that idea in my head, and then i will eat maybe some unsoaked nuts and i feel like crap. one time i ate at a salad bar and used some balsamic vinagrette quite generously, as well as some beets (pickled or cooked im not sure but def not raw) and i felt like shit. i woke up the next day with essentially a hangover. yesterday i made the pumkin pie and i used a cup of cashews and a cup of almonds instead of 2 of almonds and i felt horrible. i also sampled some sprouted chickpeas that i hadnt washed yet, so i think the mold may have poisoned me. i have a slight fever off and on since last night and had a hard time sleeping, along with a sore throat... maybe im just detoxing as well but definitely the nuts gave me some sickness... o ya and i got some nut butters from the website alissa gave and had some halvah and cashew butter before i realized that neither were raw. i guess both are heated to high temps to remove the shells. and on that note i found a site that has truly raw cashews if anyone is intersested. kinda expenseive so i probly wont get them for a while but here is the site : sunfood.com. the also have higher quality cacao than alissa's. check it out. peace
