View Full Version : Very long flu

I have had "the flu" for almost 2 weeks now. I know that many view this as a detox, and I try to as well- except many people that I know have been going through a similar thing, only NOT as long. Hopefully it is "the flu" getting in and cleaning me out...?

this is the 11th day, I have had a low-grade fever the whole time. My appetite has not gone away so I have not stopped eating- I probably should have- and WOULD have had my hunger not been present. I am only eating raw foods, so I assumed that MY flu would be shorter than all my other pill popping, hot-pocket eating friends who had the same flu, but a shorter version. I have missed so much school! I am sitting here shivering- and every night I have those fever-hallucinations...

Am i doing something wrong???? I have been so strong against not taking any relief, and I still don't want to- but this is so painful!!!

Oh, hang in there. There is a "flu" thing going around. And it lasts a good long time. Eat lots of citrus, juices, green smoothies...

First, I would recommend that you stop claiming it..."MY flu"..."I have the flu". That's just my humble opinion. I know it's difficult to do, but there really is some truth to that, I honestly do believe that.

Secondly, you say you are still eating, you may need to stop and just drink fluids (water, fresh juice) or if juicing is impossible for you at this time, only light, juicy fruits. What are you eating at this time?

Not really sure why the symptoms you are experiencing are going so long but there must be something major that is going on inside...something major that your body is doing. But by eating, you are creating digestion and that takes focus off of cleansing and healing so...

But there are two ways you can go about this - you can trust what your body is doing and continue to ride it out or if you are really concerned you can go see a doctor and take meds for it. None of us is really "qualified" to give you medical advice...it's really up to you how you will handle it - the traditional route or the "alternative"/natural route. Well, there's one more way...the homopathic/herbal supplement route

This flu going around is nasty. Let me tell ya!

I got it four weeks ago and am still not totally over it. All four of my children had it too.

I never lost my appetite either. So I never stopped eating. I am nursing too so that could be a part of it.

Just hang in there and try to rest when you can.

Thanks :) For the first week I wouldn't admit I had anything- I only started "owning" it this week when the fevers were all day-everyday and I became completely debiliated. But trully I do believe that tehre is something to not "owning" a sickness. I tried ! :( Now that I have agreed that focusing on the illness is a bad idea... I am going to focus on the illness below :p :

The fact that I Kept on eating throughout the first week, was part of me trying to ignore that any sickness actually existed- which was probably very silly. That, and the fact that I have Studio classes and scene work that people are depending on me for- ideally I would have just rested. (I am in school for Musical Theater... they don't really allow absences  ) But I missed again today and am trying to rest.

I actually fasted all day yesterday and went out to get a green juice when the fever lowered- but I thought I was going to be going in to class to do my graded scene with my scene partner today and so I ate last night- which again- was probably stupid- but I am kind of desperate-- I dont' know what is better to do- and am stuck in a place where I can't be missing! argh!

I have been eating greens, vegetables, fats and low sugar fruits... which is not the best for sped up healing i suppose.

Symtoms have been: bad headaches (which I rarely get), Lots of mucus in the sinus and chest, low grade fevers almost constantly, extremely achey- today my legs hurt so much that almost no position is comfortable.

I am not going to go to a doctor. I HAD to go yesterday to show that I didn't need an antibiotic which is what my Studio head is telling me I must need. I am going to ride it out. I guess my main frusteration is that I assumed that I would be handling this better than others who I know who had it- even WITH eating.

I am going to try to focus on lemon in water today- as I have no more groceries and I don't know if I can go out today!

Thank you for your responses- they are very appreciated!

A few suggestions to add since we have a little more history:

- Part of the reason you "may" have lingering symptoms could be due to you not really being able to take off and give your body the rest it needs prior to...yesterday (?) and also perhaps some stress that may be involved from knowing in your mind that you can't miss class but also knowing that you really need to take some time off (?)

- If you think you may need or want to do antibiotics...grapefruit seed extract is a natural antibiotic...perhaps a drop or two of that in a glass of water 2-3 times daily (?)

- Yes, definitely try eating even lighter...citrus fruits and juices if possible.

- Enemas. I know there is a lot of controversy behind doing something so "unnatural" but whenever I had such episodes of cleansing, especially if headaches and excess mucous is involved, enemas always seemed to help as you are pulling a lot of "stuff" out of you via the bowels.

I hope you are feeling better and back to your old self soon, Sungoddess! I know this must be frustrating for you, but it WILL pass!
