View Full Version : advice/meal suggestions for eating dinner with non-raw family i am living with...

I have just moved into a room in a group house with a family and their children and another lady and her daughter and some other people. they share the food budget and share meal prep and have dinner together. I told them i would prefer to do my food separately since I have developed the habit of buying pretty specific things, vegan and mostly raw. This is no problem, but I would still like to share meal times with them; ie eat at the same time. When Ive lived on my own or in a less-structured environment, Ive tended to eat at mealtimes, but also graze throughout the day, often only eating salads for dinner, etc. I would like to be eating something that looks more substantial to them when I am eating with them, however, so they dont think I have "food issues" and dont eat enough, as they eat pretty heavy (organic) meals. Can anyone offer some quick, non-dehydrated meals that look more like "meals"? (I know some people would suggest that I dont need to change my diet to accomodate what other people think, but if i can make a situation more comfortable and still stay raw and can get some good ideas on doing this easily, i dont mind doing it)

I normally make a big salad at dinner, and eat it with my family (who eat cooked food, but they love salad too).

Soup and Salad...... There are so many varieties of delicous soups, chowders and even chili in LOLF book. Then pair it with a GREAT salad! I have my soup RAW and warmed in the vitamix but my kids have me warm theirs on the stove- not the best but better than other choices they could make!
Tuscan Tomato Basil Soup:
3 cloves garlic
3 basil leaves
1 Tbsp. Grape Seed or Olive oil
pinch of himalayan sea salt
Whirl in the blender until slightly warm
Serve with a large salad and Mock Ceasar dressing (In blender mix pine nuts, garlic, lemon juice,Black pepper and a dash of olive oil) Hand toss with the greens -the texture is like parmesan:D

The link Veganforlife provided has some GREAT suggestions!
So yeah, if you want (non-dehydrated) meals that LOOK like..."meals":
Wraps (veggies w/or w/o a pate' filling) wrapped in lettuce, collard, chard or cabbage leaves
Veggie "pasta" and sauce (marinara, pomodora, pesto, or alfredo)
As Arianna said, a nice, big salad with various colorful veggies
A nice fruit salad
Alissa's chili and onion dip
(Raw) Soup and salad
Portabella mushrooms, red bell peppers or tomatoes stuffed with pate'
