I am placing a order today from Alissa's food store. I was wondering which one I should order the coconut butter or oil? What can I get from a real coconut? I am leaning toward the coconut butter. What do you use coconut butter for? I am also purchasing Agave sweetner and the Carob powder.

I have both at home and honestly use the coconut butter for recipes as it is already sweet and has the coconut flesh in it... I guess if you didn't want that coconut flavor though and wanted to put something in your recipe to smooth it out the oil would work.

the coconut oil that I bought a while ago was just sitting in my pantry without being used.. but now I'm using it on my skin after showers.. I love how soft it makes my skin! I have yet to try it in my hair, but I will!

So i am new to all this, what is the difference between coconut oil and coconut butter, just more coconut flesh? love the idea of putting the oil in my hair, thanks!

the coconut oil is just that.. it's oil and at room temperature it gets to a solid like consistency. I guess people use it for cooking but I really haven't found much of a use for it yet. There is no flavor to it.. and I did try eating it plain from the jar when I first got it.. it felt like I was eating a glob of lard or wax or something... haha. I did use it in a dessert once and sweetened it with agave syrup but now that I've discovered the coconut butter, I like that better. I use my oil on my skin and face for a moisturizer.. a little goes a REAL long way and if you think of it as lotion or moisturizer, it's a steal for the price!

The coconut butter is the oil PLUS the coconut meat mixed in with it.. it has a distinct flavor and is sweet and you can eat it right out of the jar with a spoon.. (I buy the artisana brand that alissa sells on her site)... it's really yummy and great for desserts! I guess you could use it on your skin or hair as well, but it's so yummy, I can't imagine doing that! haha.

both are great products and from what I understand.. eating coconut oil (or butter) will raise your metabolism and is pretty much a miracle food.

a woman I work with has been eating a spoonful of coconut oil everyday and says she's lost weight without even trying.. she's not raw either, she just is a health nut.

hope that helps some!

I bought coconut butter this week and frankly, I don't care for it. It's hard to get out of the jar, and doesn't do well in my smoothies. It reminds me of sweetened condensed milk taste. I won't buy it again. I know I"ll use the oil much more.

Just reading thru this older post..... just wondering...

I'm also thinking of buying some things from Alissa's store... so the Coconut Oil... does it not smell or taste of coconut at all? If I bought the coconut butter, could I use that on my skin instead of the oil or should I use the oil for my skin? I don't want my skin smelling lardy or buttery lol :D

Thanks

Coconut oil is extremely healing and good for your thyroid. I make cocao chocolate bars with it and add it to shakes YUM:D . It should be a regular part of a healthy raw vegan diet. Keeps the weight off as well.

Hi Solace :D
I've heard loads of great things recently about Coco Oil... the benefits seem plentyful. That's why I've been pushed to buy it :)

I did buy some but it tastes and smells buttery so I wasn't sure about it, which led me to taking a look at Alissa's store. I'd like something that actually tastes nice and also, if I use it on my skin, makes me smell lovely too while giving me all the goodness it has to offer! Maybe I'm asking for too much lol.... do you use Alissa's? Would I be better off using the oil than the butter or would I gain the same benefits?

Cally Over the next year or 2 I think we are going to hear tons of info about how amazing coconut oil is. Right now I am using Omega virgin oil and love the taste and smell of it, I have not tried Alissa's because I find buying from my healthfood store easier for me= but her oil sounds great ! I just listened to this cd with a friend the other day http://www.piccadillybooks.com/coconut-oil-audio.htm
Very interesting ! So i would say use 2-3 tbls at least every other day in something. I rotate between adding it to fruit smoothies and chocolate ! RAW ROCKS:D

Thanks for your help Solace! :D I'll have to check that cd out too!
I'm brand new to raw... not made the full transition yet. In the process of researching and introducing myself to things gradually. I'm finding this site and the people on here very helpful!

I feel like I'm coming into something good!
Thanks again!!!!! :D
