Hello, I have been looking into going raw for a few months now and I have finally talked my wife into giving it a try for the 30 days program(phew!)... I couldnt do it if she didnt support me. If she has cheese in the fridge I wouldnt be able to deal. Anyway, long story short... Im 36 - 6'1" 225lbs and kinda active. My wife is 30 - 5'8" 125lbs not very active but pretty fit from childhood sports. I feel like my body is not cooperating like it should be these days. I'd like to get to at least 200lbs... A few little weird things with my joints and stuff that I would like to heal. I've tried going a few days here and there totally raw and I could tell a difference in my body and mind. Im a pretty positive guy and I guess you could say spiritual. I really believe that raw food is the right way to eat but I have always thought Vegans and Vegetarians were such pains in the you know whats... (let me explain). Back in the day my best freind dated a vegan and basically he couldnt do anything with me anymore because of his girlfreinds diet (way of eating). It sucked for me and I dont want to be that way for anyone in my life. So, I think if I can eventually get to like 70% raw I would basically try to live life eating raw food at home and whenever I can and then if we are invited out with freinds or family just eating healthy but if my mom offers me a bite of something Im not going to be a pain and explain the whole story of raw foods etc... I will just eat the bite.
With all that said after watching the dvd and reading 80% of Alissa's book I am wondering if anyone has made up a better way to keep track of the 30 day process. What I mean is the book is great but I dont want to lug it around to the 2-3 stores I will need to go to for buying what I will need for my first week. Did anyone create like a word doc of what is needed for each week? I did a search on this site for grocery list but didnt find anything. Its seems like somebody would have. If not guess what? I will make one and share it with all the newbies...
Anyway, I have a great breville juicer, food processor and spiral slicer so I hope that will be enough. I dont think I can spend $300 on the nice dehydrators yet. Any advice will be great. I will be posting my before and after pics etc etc throughout the 30 days. I will be starting on March 1st.
Thanks, Seth

Thanks great advice! I hope I didnt turn anyone off from my past feelings of Vegetarians and Vegans. I know its hard to eat that way in a world of processed foods, advertisements and trying to be "cool". You sound pretty open minded about this way of eating (raw foods). I think thats the way you need to be kinda like Alissa is. She seems so easy going about it and thats one of the main reasons I want to try it out. Well 2 more days till start time...

Peace, Seth

Welcome and best to you and your wife in your raw endeavors.........

It's probably a good idea to sift thru the recipes and find out what appeals to you. With raw, you will find that if a recipe calls to dehydrate, you dont' neccessarily need to --it taste just as good the way it is too. Also, when you do make a recipe, becuase taste buds gradually change, I would suggest cutting the recipe in half that way you do not waste any if you find you do not like it.

I never created a document but the blogging/journaling here sure helps.

Have fun!

Welcome, Seth and congratulations on your (and your wife's!) new commitment!! From experience, it definitely helps to have the support of your spouse. And even better...for your spouse to commit to the same way of eating!! That's a huge hurdle you have already overcome. :)

With regards to your question about grocery lists on a word doc, wouldn't it be just as easy to photocopy the list from Alissa's book and taking that with you to the store? I guess it would depend on whether or not you had a copier of some sort, wouldn't it?? Heheheh! Just a suggestion...

Blessings to you and your wife...

Seth, that's great that you and your wife are going to try this together. Me and my husband are currently doing the 30 day challenge together as well, today is Day 8! :) We're doing well so far! There has been a thread started for a March 30 day challenge so I hope you stop by that thread if you haven't already. We're all here to help support you guys so you're not in this alone! Have fun trying new raw foods. :)
