i wasn't trying to cheat, but lucky for me (or unlucky) my body is not gonna let me. because it freaks out when i eat anything basically. i'm naturally allergic to everything not in this diet. so i guess it's gonna be pretty easy to keep me in line.

i'm kinda confused about the cocoa/cacao issue though. i started a thread a couple days ago about what the difference was. and somebody said nothing. which i took to mean that we can eat chocolate chips. but then i saw something about people making them with powder and agave. so i'm kinda confused about the difference between raw chocolate and not raw.

yesterday i got some bulk chocolate chips from the coop. i looked at all the ingredient and they all looked okay. so then i put some of them in my banana ice cream. and man was that a bad idea. because i had a horrible allergic reaction to them today.

i haven't figured out what i'm allergic too yet. but i think it's some sort of food additive. because anything with artificial flavors in it seems to make me uber sick. and i do better on raw. as a rule.

but i'm still a clueless noob. so i was wondering if anybody knew about what they put in chocolate chips.

Hey there... What are the ingredients in the chocolate chips that you bought?

I think cocoa powder is roasted, but many raw foodists still use organic cocoa powder. Basically the raw cacao powder is hard to get for most people and expensive.

Raw cacao powder is very finely ground up raw cacao nibs. But there has been some debate as to whether it really is raw or not. I think the raw food companies use the word "cacao" instead of "cocoa" in order for people to distinguish that it's not the roasted kind like you see in stores everywhere.

I *think* that's what it is, anyway... could be wrong... I've been wrong before, LOL.

Hi there,

You have to purchase cocoa or carob that specifically says "RAW" on it. Anything else is most likely cooked.

It is actually a blessing when our body rejects any cooked food!! It makes it so much easier to stay raw. My body very quickly did the same thing when I first went raw. When you get sick everytime you eat something less than ideal, you quickly realize that it isn't worth it.

Best of luck to you!
