Anyone have a good recipe? I haven't been able to find any. :D

This was from trinity082482. I did a search up top
You'll need your dehydrator your getting to make these:

Juliano's Oatmeal cookies from RAW The Uncook Book
2 cups of oat groats
3/4 cup dates
1/2 cup of dried raisins, chopped
1/2 cup of raw almonds coarsely chopped
2 or 3 apples coarsely grated (optional, use only if you prefer a chewier, heavier cookie)
1/2 cup of raw cashews

Place oat groats in a food processor and grind until fine. If you don't have a food processor, use a blender and add a little maple syrup to help the dough turn over (I tried it, the blender will do it dry just fine). Transfer the groats to a mixing bowl and add the dates, raisins, almonds and apples and mix the batter well. Set aside. In a coffee grinder grind the cashews until they resemble a silky flour. On a mesh dehydrator sheet shape the batter. Keep in mind that the thicker you shape the cookies the longer they take to dehydrate. Dehydrate the cookies at 90 degrees until they reach your preferred texture, around 12 hours.

Hmmmm... okay, stupid question here, but what does Juliano mean by "dried raisins"?? Isn't a raisin a dried fruit already? Are you supposed to dehydrate raisins before you use them for this recipe?

That's funny, I just glanced at the recipe and thought the exact same thing!

:D LOL. I just figured the recipe was being redundant. LOL. I used regular raisins and they turned out fine.

I even checked the book this morning and it didn't give any reference to them being dried, but I know my Dad used to hydrate raisins and I guess because when you write recipes, you HAVE to be specific! He did put this out for the general public and folks take everything literally! :p

Yeah, just regular raisins...dried :p No, seriously...just raisins - no extra step of dehydrating them first or anything.

But at any rate, I've made them a LOT of times and they are yummy! Delicious with a tall, cold glass of fresh nut milk! :)

Mmmmm! They are wonderful! How I ever ate a regular cookie I will never know. These taste so much better! When I get a craving, I get a craving...LOL. I go ahead and make the thing so I don't end up buying some terrible grocery store version with transfat and stiff icing on it. I actually did crave some icing on them, so I used Alissa's icing recipe for the cinnamon rolls, and that turned out spectacular! They will be gone soon...without any guilt!

I have made those Oatmeal cookies from Kookie Karma (you have to watch the video to get the recipe, it's not written on the site) a few times, and they are pretty good!
I tend to prefer dehydrated cookies, so I will have to try the Juliano's ones. Thanks for posting the recipe.

I can't get it to work the "normal" way so to speak. BUT they now have this little option to "watch in flash" and that works for me. Maybe try that?

Luna and Fuzzy,
The steps both worked. I was able to get to that link before, but not to see the video. Now you gave us the complete way to access the cookie video. I had to see the video via Flash, but great new way of seeing the rest too. Wow, I am so happy. Cheap, powerful, loaded with food entertainment makes me WOW! Thanks for spending the time to help me access the video.

Fuzzy,
For the Oatmeal recipe I was able to use Flash, but for the others I tried, it asked me to install a program, which I didn't do. It appears that not all the recipes were allowing me to use Flash. Darn! Any further suggestions to avoid downloading that software program? Thanks a BILLION!

Carol,

Hmmm... not quite sure what's going on but I'm having the same problem. My suspicion is that the "Watch in Flash" links aren't actually going to a flash version of the videos (with the exception of the oatmeal cookie video.) Perhaps we should go ahead and email Green Chefs to see if that is the case?
I'm actually using Ubuntu instead of WinXP so sometimes these things get really quirky for me.
Huh. Now who do I email about this? Anybody out there emailed GLiving re: a technical website issue? Anybody?

Rawkinlocks, where do you find truly raw oats for this recipie, please?
Thanks!

Fuzzy,
Perhaps this contact may get us some answers. You're going to email them for both of us? Thanks.

jill@gliving.tv
She's acct. exec. but didn't see anything closer. She can forward your message. I'll just hold on to my pants tightly and wait and see what they tell you. Thanks.

I just put a batch of the oatmeal cookies in the dehydrator about a 1/2 hour ago. I used the recipee that was posted on this thread. I didn't use the apples because it was optional and was thinking I didn't really need them. But I noticed the dough was very crumbly and dry in texture. I guess if I had used the apples I wouldn't have that problems. I put the mixture back into the food processor and added some cinn. and then just enough agave syrup while I pulsed the processor . .. just enough in order for the mixture to begin to form a "dough".

So, I guess we will see how this mixture tastes dehydrated. It is really good raw. I hope it tastes the same dehydrated. The next time around I will probably either omit or note use as many dates and I am thinking of experimenting with a little fresh apple juice or almond milk and seeing how the texture and taste will come out. If these cookies are too crumbly, I will not care and will just turn my oatmeal cookies into oatmeal granola. I spooned out a portion of the mix just to eat.

Okay, I made these cookies last night and from looking at the recipe the way it's posted in this thread, it didn't make sense to me. There's no liquid in the recipe, and the instructions didn't state what to do with the dates (chop, puree, etc) or what to do with the cashew flour...

Soooo.. I happened to have this book out from the library, and checked it, and it's not posted here as it is in the book.

The 3/4 cup dates is actually 3/4 cup maple syrup in Juliano's book. No dates. And the cashew flour is used to help form the dough, it's not added to the dough. You use it to handle the dough when you're forming the cookies on the dehydrator tray.

I used 3/4 cup agave nectar instead of maple syrup and it really came out great! It's still a very heavy cookie. Very good. Love it. I might lower the agave a little next time as it was quite sweet, but I don't want the mixture to be too dry either.

Anyway, I don't like to post recipes from books but since his was posted in thread wrong, I thought it should be corrected, since it didn't make sense...

Interesting Debra...

I can't handle too many dates... just so sweet to me. I think I would omit the dates and do everything else the same. I ground the cashews and added it to the oat flour. Adding it to the dough worked great. The next time around I might just finely chop the cashews and put them in the mix towards the end like I did with the raisins - because I don't want them finely ground and want the cookie to have a nutty crunchy texture. Just checked them in the dehydrator and so far so good.

And you don't have to soak the oat groats? I'm still new at the raw fooding, and sometimes get confused in the recipes about to soak or not. If it doesn't say "soaked", so you assume it's ok to use them as is?:o

romanticsnet

No Don't soak the groats, because you are supposed to make them into a flour.
These are delish, but I end up eating every last cookie within 3 days! I have made this 3 times! I say use whole raisins. Have you ever tried chopping raisins?

I ended up making them with "whipped dates": taking soaked dates and putting them into the food processor until they come out fluffy like a pudding. It made the cookies a little less dense, I imagine. (And I made some more of that "date pudding" to eat plain after!)

Quick question here
I don't mean to sound clueless but are oat groats raw? I hear people saying they aren't and others saying they are. So if anyone knows could you please post a response. I'm desperate to go 100% raw, and I think it would help a lot if all the ingredients were raw.LOL!

I made oatmeal chocolate chip cookies last week. I tweeked alissa's recipe a bit. I just used raw cacao nibs and unsteemed rolled oat. They were delicious. I would go heavier on the oat side than I did, about 1-1.5 cups.
