I don't have a coffee grinder, is there another way to grind flax seeds? Can they be ground in a food processor? Sorry if this sounds like a dopey question.

I have successfully ground flax seeds in my blender...but not sure all models will do a nice job at it. Mine is a L'Equip and one of the features was that it could grind such small seeds.
A food processor might grind them up a little, but I think you'll still end up with some whole seeds...try it out and see what happens. It also might mean grinding longer and maybe having a large quantity in there so they'll move better.

When I didn't have a coffee grinder I used a mortar and pestle to grind everything (but it takes a lot of work!). A food processor probably won't do the job because the seeds are so small. You might try a blender, but again the seeds might be too small.

Hi,
I grind mine in my Vita Mix blender, one of the reasons I bought this high priced item was because it could grind seeds. I have loved it for almost 10 years now.
You can not grind them in a food processor, I have tried, you don't have a coffe grinder, so that won't work.
You can use a spice grinder, or a morter and pestal, but the later may take some time, and cause sore arms.
You can buy flax meal, which is just the seeds ground up, but unless it is kept in the freezer, it turns rancid quicly.
Good luck.

if you don't have a high-speed blender with which to grind them, best to invest in a coffee grinder, since you can get a basic one for about 10 bucks! (much cheaper than a VitaMix or Ktec if you don't already have one)

Thanks girls! I guess I will get a cheap coffee grinder because my blender and food processor did not grind them. :(

Hey, and think about thrift stores or garage sales. I got a Krups coffee grinder for $2.99 at the Salvation Army a few weeks ago. It works perfectly!

A little off-topic -- you mentioned ground flax seed (meal). I threw my bag out because I couldn't determine that it was raw and unprocessed. Anybody know about that?
