Hi there...
Was wondering... In the Raw Food Recipe forum, I see a lot of the same posters posting a lot of different recipes ( looking so good-yum) many are dehydrated, So was wondering how often do you do this per week> I have seen many photos from the same amazing raw people, so I was thinking maybe they are still transitioning, I dunno. BTW this isn't one of those OH dehy meals aren't as healthy type posts either. I'm over all the Raw Food dogma, I dont care anymore. I was just curious cuz many of those recipes need a lot of ingredients or sprouting days or long hours to dehy... So Im just a curious bird, especially with the people who aren't trans'ing anymore,??

i don't own a dehydrator and made the transition to raw about a year ago without one.
I don't think I will get one either. I reserve those special meals for raw restaurants (even though I normally opt for a salad). :D

I don't eat any dehydrated meals. Not a matter of "good or bad", I just prefer fresh and juicy. I haven't ruled out dehydrated meals forever, but it's been a long time.
I would say maybe once every couple of weeks. This is due to time contraints. I tried more in the beginning but after a few failed attempts of recipes I didn't like, I shyed away from it. Like you said the time soaking, sprouting, and then dehydrating is huge. So for me having 3-4 days into something and then if I don't like it I feel so bummed out.
The only thing I am making these days is raw grawnola. Cause I like it and I know it will turn out. When I get some time, I want to try fruit leather though. If I wasn't so busy, I would probably do it more often. Just because the recipes I have seen on here look good.

I am not one of the people you are referring to - the ones posting lots of pics - although I aspire to be :D - but I thought I would throw my two cents in anyway....
For me, I am feeding not only myself but also my family - growing twin 17 month olds and a hungry husband. While we do eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, no-one is this house would be happy if I served a salad for dinner every night. I need to offer more variety to keep them satisfied - and dehydrated food allows me to do that - crackers, pizza crusts, fruit leathers, cookies, falafels, burgers, breads, granola, dried cranberries, etc.
I think also that some people just really enjoy preparing meals and trying new recipes. I personally feel very pleased when I can copy a popular cooked meal, like pizza or falafels, and serve it in a healthier raw way. I especially get a thrill when I serve raw meals to SAD eaters, and they are inspired by how tasty and varied the food is - a salad just isn't as impressive, you know.
You asked how often we dehydrate - I tend to dehydrate in two ways. First, I have a big spurt and dehydrate several batches of crackers, cookies, fruit leathers, pizza crusts, dried fruit, etc. over the course of a few days and then that lasts us about a month. I also dehydrate/warm specific meals, like falafels, burgers, lasagna, etc. on the day we plan to eat them - maybe 3 or 4 times a week.
I am a list-type person, and I have a chart that I fill out every week before I grocery shop, to plan what I am going to eat, and what needs to be prepared on what day. That helps me keep track of what needs to be soaked, sprouted, dehydrated, etc.
I'm sure one of the people you wanted will come along soon and respond, but I hope this helps in the meantime.

Oh I thought this was just a general question about dehydrating habits :)

Thanks Crisyn! I sent you an email. The system seems to be different now, so I hope you get it, if not let me know. :)

I rarely use mine. Before I got it I'd see all the pictures of wonderful looking food and I couldn't wait to try the recipes. But after trying a few and not liking the end result at all, I kind of slacked off using it. I know I like salads. I mainly eat those. I do sometimes make nut cheese or onion bread but that's about it.

I usually try to take one or two days (usually on the weekend) to just make up a bunch of stuff to last the week (or longer depending) such as crackers, pizza crusts, cookies, etc.

I dehydrate a LOT of things at once, such as crackers, breads, and tortillas.
I do this usually around once a month.
Rarely do I dehydrate meals. On occasion I do, but I eat a smoothie every morning for breakfast, and usually some type of salad or sprouted grain dish for the rest of the day. Or guacamole, or cheesecake, or pie, or something that doesn't need dehydration.
I wouldn't give up my dehydrator, becuase it supplies all my crackers and breads.:D

Hi...
Okay cool. Thanks everyone.
2 more questions... For those who have been raw, a long time, How often do you eat dehy food? Curious... I'm sure it's different if you have a family who is raw as well... Gotta make more food.
Also, how do you store, crusts, crackers in general? I would love to do that, But My fridge is always so full, and my freezer, uh let's not go there.
