AND i found almost everything, I'm fairly certain not everything was raw though theres somethings i'm not sure about, like the agave syrup doesn't say raw so I'm not sure. Any ways I could not find mung bean sprouts or coconut butter, the lady asked me if i meant oil, this is for a dessert that I found for a tart that calls for coconut butter anybody have a clue? Hoping maybe almond butter or cashew butter will be an ok substitute. Also the butter also didn't say raw.......The stores here suck.. any ways this was my first time shopping do you think this will all be ok for the first go around?

aenea-
i'm kinda new to this too so i'm not sure if i can give you the best answers. what i've heard is that if something doesn't say it's raw then it probably isn't. it may even say 'not heated to temperatures above ___'. for non produce items, you can buy in bulk from an online store if you're unsure of its rawness. i'm planning on doing this if i move back to west virginia.
most of the food you'll be using will be fresh anyways so it gets easier.
best to you.
You can use coconut oil in place of coconut butter. It never hurts to experiment with raw food- I'm always substituting one thing for another! I would definitely say- If the agave doesn't say raw- it isn't. No worries though- I think you did a great job on your first raw shopping spree! It gets easier! :)
Oh, you can always ask the person who does the ordering about certain items. I've faxed one of my local health food stores things I wanted- and they got them in!

YAyayyayayaya so glad you went shoppping and had a blast!:)
The coconut oil does not contain the meat whereas the butter does. Alissa sells a version of cocnut butter that is obviously raw. It depends on the manufacturer and how they process it. Artisana is another real popular brand that everyone seems to rave about as well!
The best way to make sure you products are truly raw by raw foodist definition,. is to contact the company. For the longest time, most of us thought Maranatha RAW almond butter was truly raw. Until we emailed them and found out that they were [using ] raw almonds BUT in the process of conveting to nutter butter, they use high levels of heat.

Misslinda - I did not know that?! So what brand that says raw actually is? Or have you and others just taken to making their own? Boy, oh, boy! Just when I think I'm getting in the groove, I find out something new like this!

MissLinda are you serious about the Marantha raw almond butter??
I just bought two 16 oz jars today because it is half the price of Artisana raw almond butter.
I needed over three cups of almond butter this weeks for recipes alone and that was going to cost over $30 for Artisana. I got Marantha for half the price!
Aww, this is sad!! I have been raving all day about this half price raw almond butter!

OOPS! yes my good friend......Maranatha's "raw" almond butter is not raw. The almond itself is but when they make it into a nutter butter, it is exposed to high heat levels. I contacted them over a years ago and it is true. Don't feel bad.......alot of us were mislead also.
Cocnut butter,. Alissa sells the Artisana......you have to try it!!!!!!!!Has a very delicate sweet finish that adds to the creamy cocnut texture.

Aenea, don't worry, you did great. You are bound to make mistakes, even after you've been doing this awhile. Don't let this get you down. In this case, if you don't open the nut butters you can probably return them.

So do you guys think I should finish off the "raw" maranatha almond butter or return the one jar I haven't opened yet?
I bought two 16 oz jars because this week I was planning on making fudge balls which requires 16 oz of almond butter and then two other recipes that require portions of the butter. I really want to return it, but my family thinks we can't afford the real stuff so they just want to use this, which I understand, but I really really really want to be 100% raw all the way. Last night I had a spoonful of it and I felt really guilty afterward... What should I do, because I really want to make the fudge balls. The 16 oz jar of artisana almond butter is $20!! Hmm.. this is a problem!!

Well, weigh it out. Would it cost some $$$ gas-wise to take it back? Or just suck it up, having learned? It's definitely better then eating SAD, right? It's your call however.
Me? I would just suck it up. When I first went raw I (can't believe I'm admitting this here), but I made RP's brownies using Hershey cocoa. I wanted to use it up. I did however share them with my SAD eating friends...sorry Christine! LOL!!!
It's not gonna set you back. The Raw Food police are not going to come to your house and arrest you. If this is the worst that you've eaten since going raw, then that isn't too bad.

Thank you vegan for life. That does make me feel a little bit better. It wouldn't cost me a lot of gas money to go and return it. It would just cost a lot for me to replace it with artisana almond butter. I am going to buy that from now on though.
Thanks!! And btw I LOVE the almond butter so much! The artisana and the maranatha taste excactly the same to me, I just wish the cheaper one was truly raw. Oh well. The money is worth being healthy and happy :) :)
