Well, I've been 100% raw for 14 days today and at first, I noticed a little bit of fatigue.....I was eating a lot of avocados and nuts, well, as I was reading this forum, I noticed a lot of people said that low fat helps with fatigue, so I tried it and the first day, eating mostly fruit, I was a little better. So yesterday and today I am doing the same thing, but the fatigue has gotten worse!! I feel like I have mono. I'm not joking. I have no motivation to do anything today. It's sunny and not that cold out today and I've been taking naps on and off all day. I have tons of studying to do, I have to clean the apt. run errands, and I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO SNAP OUT OF IT! I just took a shower, it's almost 5pm here and I feel like laying right back down and getting comfortable! This is not like me. I hate it. I am someone who feels guilty for not being active and my whole body is sluggish. Typing right now is wearing me out!!
Today I ate:
Green JUICE (2 apples, arugala, and cabbage)
like 20 minutes later:
some dates and dried figs
Cantaloup
a couple hours later
5 bananas
I'm not really hungry because I have horrible heartburn and my stomach is HUGE!
Can someone tell me what to do? Is this really detox? How come it seems so many people start out and don't feel so crappy right away? Can someone give me an example or tell me about when they first went raw and what symptoms they had, if any? This is just horrible. I feel horrible! I haven't felt this tired since before I got diagnosed with Celiac disease.........and before that, MONO!
Help!!! Please?:(

It definitely sounds like detox. Rest, eat lightly, and be patient.
You will feel better soon!!

what did you eat before going raw? i'm on day 19 or 20 now and i'm nearly convinced my immense need to sleep lately is due to my excessive amount of protein/etc i ate prior to raw. but let your body sleep, rest up, your health is being restored. you might be tired, but i bet your skin glows!

fats slow down the healing/detox process. So the more fats, the less profound detox. Granted, everyones margin is different. :)

YES! That is exactly what I was thinking. I have IC and many other bladder issues and I read EVERYWHERE that RED MEAT, chicken and fish were the best things for me.......So I was eating A LOT of it. Wow, 20 days and still extremely tired? That's scary.......there's not way I'm ditching raw foods, but my life is so busy (work and school full time) that it's gonna be extremely hard!!!
Oh and it's weird, but yeah, my skin, especially my face, is looking different already. I mean, I don't really LOOK tired, at all! So odd to me........

I always try to keep in mind how long it took me to get to the point I was at before I started this lifestyle. A few months of detox is worth all of the years that I abused my body with my habits. That doesn't necessarily mean it's easy, it just helps to keep that in mind as I go through it. ;)

i'm not as tired, i've been waking up without the alarm now which is great, but i'm allowing myself to sleep more than i want to so i can heal. i think the key to it is eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full. sometimes i can go weeks on raw hardly eating because my body doesn't want food, sometimes i eat tons. just eat the amount of food your body tells you to eat. you will achieve. keep through it for 30 days! i'm doing a 90 day challenge, keep at it, just admire your glowing skin!

How about your water intake? That will help flush out all the gunk out of your system. Hang in there. It's detox...

Thanks so much for all the replies! Yes, I've been drinking water in between meals, but I'm not as thirsty as usual because my fruit has so much water .......and I'm peeing a lot! Anyway, I just read the thread about 'what raw has done for you' and I LOVED IT. TOTALLY LIFTED MY SPIRITS. I'm going to make a salad! Thank you!!!:o

Also, incorporate some green smoothies into your diet. Good stuff. Simple prep.
2 cups filtered water
handful of greens (your choice - me? I like spinach)
couple different fruits
whip up in a blender and there you go. your food is already assimilate and ready to be incorporated into your body.

Yikes, I've had mono and if that's how you're feeling, I can really empathize!
I think beginning a rawfood lifestyle can be profound on our bodies, because it's such a natural way of living and being and we're just not used to that! When we relied on cooked food, we actually stimulated our bodies to 'get going' in very unnatural ways: caffeine, simple carbs, too much protein etc. Now you're asking your body to 'get going' in a completely different way and as most people here will say, "just think how long it took you to get here in the first place? Healing isn't going to happen overnight!" So let yourself heal, by resting, drinking lots of water, and just living simply. Take this time to be quiet, relax and live small. As the days and weeks go by, you'll learn more about raw, tweak your food here and there and find what works for you. Don't give up, just take it easy!

This is a slippery slope. I got into a detox deluxe situation in October - November that was more severe than any detox I have ever read about anywhere. I think that there were/are alot of toxins stored in my tissues and that as I started losing alot of weight due to raw - those toxins overloaded my kidney and liver and I had signs of kidney failure.
Personally I have had to limit my raw diet to get back to work and incorporate more SAD. I have put some of the weight back on and still need to lose it . . . still need to get to 100% - but need to keep my job too. I don't mean to offend anyone by coming to this board and not being 100% but that is what this board is about - supporting and inspiring each other. I have never really read anywhere about something as severe as what I suffered so I think that some of us have to take it slower.
It depends on your personal history. I have had to take many Rx for years and have had many surgeries and other toxins. I remember driving through Nevada when there was underground testing going on and getting all these strange blisters on my skin. So I have alot of strange stuff going on. Plus in my part of the country - north of me they are fighting construction because they do not want the radioactive dust stirred up into the air - I live downwind of it. And this is just what I KNOW. I dread to think of all the toxins in the food I have ingested. So just wanted to give you another point of view. We get to pay now or we get to pay later. If we wait till later it may be too late. . . and I know that is a risk I am taking.
Talk about moving. I was just with family for hours. We older adults just sit and talk and sit and sit and sit. We get exhausted just watching the kids. When I was a kid the older adults moved alot more. We have to honor the needs of our body and rest but sometimes we just have to force ourselves to move too and then as we push it gets easier. Since you put alot of pressure on yourself maybe you need the rest for now.
Green juices help. Cilantro helps detox. Lemon juice helps. I find that I can drink these for energy instead of coffee. If I blend it with bananas and other fruits it can slow me down. That is just me. Hope it helps.
There are many other items that help detox. Kelp detoxes strontium 90. Milk thistle detoxes the kidney-liver. Sometimes I just juice fast all weekend and I think it helps to detox. When I do that I seem to have more energy and get more done.

Yeah, I'm definitely sticking to raw foods only because I know there are people much worse off on me that handle the detox, but it's kind of sad that we mess with our poor bodies so much that we even have to go through this. It makes me mad at the world a little bit for brainwashing us so much....
Luckitree, I'm sorry you had such serious detoxing. That must have been scary. I just keep telling myself to relax, eat raw, and know that my body is finally in good hands.........God's hands!
Anyway, I also noticed that if I mix ANY fruit, I get more tired. Yesterday, I ate mono fruit all day long and then had two salads last night with all veggies and avocado. I barely had any heartburn last night which was a good thing. I'm still tired and lazy, but not as bad as yesterday. THAT WAS HORRIBLE! But I'm very excited for my future now. BEfore, I WAS SCARED OF MY FUTURE. And that is a bad feeling. Now, I know that I can actually LOOK FORWARD WITH HAPPIENESS to my future. That is a GOOD GOOD FEELING!!!! :D :D :D
