I'm on a juice fast.
First day wasn't as bad as I thought. I had a slight headache all day but it wasn't a big deal. Toward the end of the day I could feel my neck glands swelling a little and had a slight sore throat. Before I knew it, the day was over.
1.5 liter green - 3 bunches spinach, 1 head celery, 4 apples, carrots
1 liter 6 oranges, 1 beet, ginger root
4 liters water
1 liter carrot apple

Woke up at 5.30a feeling great and rested. Hunger started around 11.30 but had a orange carrot and it was gone. Headache in the morning but it only lasted until noonish. Had a little stuffy nose that lasted through the day. My glands are still a lil swollen. Took a walk around the block around 2pm and felt like running. Got home fired up and ready for the gym.
DAY 2
1.5 L green, 3 bunches of spinach, 4 fuji apples, carrots
2 L orange carrot ginger
3 L water with lemon
500ml 4 tomatoes, 8 carrot, 1/2 head broccoli, 1/2 lemon

Slept in till 6.30a and felt great. No more headache. No more stuffy nose. Felt energized all day. I was a little hungry around noon but made some tomato juice and it cured me right up. Today was treadmill day at the gym and the grape juice before I went kept me full of energy. The only downside for today is my skin and scalp. They are starting to get dry.
500ml grape
500ml grape apple
500ml 4 tomato, 2 celery stalks, 5 chard leaves, 1/4 cabbage, 2 carrots, 1 lime
500ml 1 bunch spinach, 4 tomato, 2 celery stalks, 5 chard leaves, 1/4 cabbage, 2 carrots, 1 lime
3 L water with key limes
Tomorrow morning is the farmers market. I can't wait to see what I find.

I love the ginger/carrot/celery/apple combo and my hubby just adds a jalapeno to his. We tried adding tomato to that combo but found it separated everthing and made it taste wrong. I was disappointed I was looking forward to a v8 sorta taste, nope doesnt work.:(

That sound like a wonderful tastin' juice!
Though somepeople say that drinking juices is like pooring a cup of sugar down your throat i don't no though cause there are many people who have healed them selfs with it!

The closest one to the v8 i've found is 1 bunch spinach, 4 tomato, 2 celery stalks, 5 chard leaves, 1/4 cabbage, 2 carrots, 1 lime with a lil hot pepper and sea salt added. It does separate out so I just swirl it as I drink it.

for me on the V8 type juice i found using a blender or centrifugal type juicer on tomatos sort of makes them frothy / aireated which makes them taste wrong to me . so i take a plunger type vegi chopper / dicer and put my cut up tomatos in a pot , then chop them over and over til their a liquid sauce . then the other ingredients i use are celery cuke carrot spinach pepper cabbage onion parsley garlic . real heavy on the tomato , real light on the other stuff , their just like the spices . those i juice then mix with the tomato juice . then sprinkle with choice of pepper .

Lazy Sunday it was today. I made my weekly trip to the farmers market and got my food for the week. Made some orange beet ginger juice for a friend and she loved it. Took a long hot bath in the afternoon.
500ml apple, carrot, celery, ginger
500ml orange, beet, carrot, ginger
500ml 1 bunch spinach, 2 stalks celery, 6 leaves chard, 4 tomatoes, key lime, cayenne, hemp oil
1L water with key lime
and ...
I've found somebody at work to take some of this juicing refuse. He has a garden and will put it to good use. It is amazing how much sawdust comes out of these lil suckers. I'm glad its going somewhere.

It seems like I've been doing this forever. I'm a little bit tired but I did wake up at 4.30a, worked a 10hr shift then went to the gym.
500ml orange, pineapple, beet, ginger, hemp
500ml spinach, chard, celery, broccoli, carrot, beet greens, cayenne, lemon
500ml tomato, broccoli, celery
2 L water with key lime
I'm gonna have to try some yams.

I am not hardly getting any detox symptoms  You sound like you are getting quite a bit, if you are getting TOO sick from it, you might want to try adding more fats like avacado and flax and more dehydrated food.:( :D Hang in there...

I don't think I'm getting too many as well. The ones I do get are very light. It's almost too easy and I'm waiting for it to kick into high gear.
My biggest challenge will be next week. I have friends from out of town staying with me for 8 days. Typically its whiskey with steak chasers but I'm not going to break this for them. I can't.
I better break the news to them that their vaca may not be what it use to be.

Woke up at 5am with tons of energy. It was hard to concentrate at work because all I wanted to do was go outside and run around. Lots of cleaning from the bowels today. Skin is not dry any more and super soft. My scalp is still freaking out a little bit but getting better. Tongue is still caked and teeth are fuzzy. A slight headache comes and goes but nothing too serious. I also had a F'n great day at the gym today.
1 L orange beet ginger
1 L apple carrot ginger hemp oil
3 L water with key lime
Comments from co-workers are starting. I'm even starting to get random smiles and hellos from cute girls on the street. SWEET! I love this stuff!

ONE WEEK! I don't really have an end date. I was just gonna ride it till my body told me different. So far I've lost 12 lbs.
Today I wasn't all that hungry so it was a light menu today.
1 L spinach, broccoli, carrots, chard, celery, apples
2 L water with key lime
11/01/06 - 245 Lbs
02/21/07 - 235 Lbs

Today I crashed at around 1p. I then remembered that I had only had one liter of juice during the entire day. I also had really bad cravings today. The first that I've had so far. It didn't help that they had popcorn going at the office. I got home and made myself something to 'eat' and felt better but I'm really low on the energy this afternoon. It's also been a hard work week so it may also be my mind winding down for the weekend.

Another night of cleansing. Woke up with wicked cramps and all I can say about it is 'WOW'. Slept through the alarm and was late to work but felt very rested. As a matter of fact I felt like I had come out of a coma. You know the feeling ... the 'one with the bed' kind of action. Somebody asked what day I was on and I forgot. I had to come home and look it up. I will take that as a good sign. I also have inspired 3 people to try raw and juice. Friends are now coming over to fill bottles full of juice.
1 L apple carrot ginger
1 L spinach apple carrot chard
500 ml spinach, celery, broccoli, carrot, tomato, chili, lemon, hemp oil
2 L water with lemon
... and since I'm supplying mulch for my friends garden, I get fresh produce in exchange. I'm also gonna have them plant some luffa for some scrubbin'
---edit
... and I had a great workout at the gym tonight. It felt great to run.

Lazy weekend. Felt a little tired. My throat is a little sore and my glands are a little tender. Teeth are still fuzzy. My sister called to tell me. She bought a juicer yesterday. Now my 10 yr old nephew is addicted to juice. He even got up early today to prep the fruits and veges. Included in his diet today was 6 cups of spinach. This is more than the total of his entire life. He now wants to go to the farmers market to "Buy them out". He has also called all his buddies to see if they are juicing too.
todays menu
1 L orange with hemp oil
1 L spinach, golden beet, celery, carrot, tomato, chili pepper
500 ml apple kiwi
500 ml apple carrot blackberry ginger

The farmers market was just OK today. We had the LA marathon run through Hollywood so the market started late and a lot of the vendors didn't show up. After doing this for over a week now I find it amazing the amount of produce that I've been going through. Issues today are swollen neck glands, a heavily coated tongue, and sores have erupted in my mouth, mostly on my tongue. I'm also a little tired today and I'm looking forward to an afternoon soak.
here is the list from today
25 lbs oranges
20 lbs. apples
15 lbs. tomatoes
10 lbs. spinach
10 lbs. carrots
5 lbs broccoli
3 lbs yams
3 lbs satsuma oranges
2 lbs cabbage
2 lbs cucumbers
2 lbs jerusalam artichokes
1 lb chard
mint
chili peppers
a small bag of japanese cukes - love em.
and i'm sure i will be picking up more stuff as I go through the week.
so far the menu for today is
1 L orange
500 ml spinach, grape, yam
1 L water with lemon
1 L spinach, carrots, celery, yam, japanese cucumber, hemp oil, thai chili pepper (my lips are on FIRE)

I can't believe its almost 2 weeks. it seems like forever but not in a bad way. Reading these boards is almost corrupting me. Reading all of those raw recipes and looking at all of the pictures have me thinking about food all the time. I will have to cut down my time here in order to stay the course.
It is now the eaters vs the drinkers. ME vs YOU! I will read your yummy posts NO MORE! I will look at your yummy pictures NO MORE!
you, you EATERS you!
ok, back to biz ...
Today I woke up with a soar throat, swollen glands and a slight headache. My headache grew to splitting by mid-morning. By 2pm or so it was gone. My weight loss have leveled out over the last few days. I have also noticed that over the same period of time my intake wasn't as much. I wonder if it has a connection. I've also been tired the last few days as well.
I knew this week was gonna be tough. I have friends from out of town that are used to me as a steak and whiskey guy. They are being cool about stuff but ... its just not the same.
I've also started to brush. I found a palm fiber brush and DAMN! I feel all tingly n stuff. It's awesome. I now want to make a brushing 'tree' for the shower so I can just rub against it like a bear. A big loofa pine fiber tree. I think it will sell. Hell ... I would buy one from myself.
todays menu is ...
2 L spinach, apple carrot
500ml orange beet ginger
500ml pineapple
3 L water with mint and key lime AKA mojito

Hey. I notice that you want to do the AT. I did a section of the PCT last year and it was awesome. I also know a few AT hikers. The trail is a great experience and the most important lesson I learned was this.
Hike YOUR hike.
Don't get caught up in the millage and trying to keep up with through-hikers, etc.
walk YOUR walk.
The trail is a great place to be.
good luck to you!

TWO WEEKS! Wow. I can't believe it. My energy today was amazing and I was back in full swing in the gym. The only detox symptom that I had today was a coated tongue. My weight loss has tampered off but thats OK right now. Other things have been happening and my body has been noticeably changing. I've been getting more and more commits about the way I look lately.
I have been thinking a lot about food lately. I wouldn't call them cravings because its nothing in particular and It's not because I'm really hungry either. I know part of it is that I love to cook and used to do it all the time for a lot of people. Now I don't have that and it's weird. I used to be the central kitchen for all my friends. All the cooking I used to do took a lot of time now I have a void.

Farmers market was today and I got my food for the week. Had a headache in the morning but it may be because i didn't know what time it was. i spent 45 minutes trying to figure out what time it was ... stupid daylight savings. Today was a craving day. The big thing is fish. Its the first time I craved something specific. Before fasting I was sashimi twice a week. Today im missing it ... a lot
good news is 2 notches smaller on my belt AND lost 3% body fat in the last 4 days, lost 4 lbs but gained 4 lbs muscle. Its kinda weird having your body re-arranging the furniture like this.

I'll have to try the horseradish:) ! I had too much pre-fab food this weekend, Lara bars and dehydrated bread and I am cutting out avocados for awhile. Tomorrow I am back on juice for a week, I'm gunna switch things around. Instead of starting out with fruit, I'm gunna start with veggies -with Kale being the main thang.:D Up my water and lemon juice too.

... tomorrow will be 3 weeks. Its hard to believe its been this long. I've been debating whether to stay on or break. I didn't have a goal except to do it and I think it's run its course for now. All I want to do it eat those veges I'm putting into the juicer. Tomorrow I think I will. I'm not sure. Maybe. I'm gonna try an avocado or a banana first. or at least I may buy one and see if i can do it. its kinda a weird thought of having solid food in my mouth and having to chew again. when i do come off i plan on staying raw for a while.

Most of the day I was on water. I had juice when I got home and now I feel bloated. I think I may go back to water tomorrow and do it for a couple days. I've been really tired this week. Work has been taxing this week. I hope a nice restful weekend will get my spirits back up. My clothes are getting noticeably baggy and I'm down to my last notch on my belt.

Dang I'm glad the weekend is here. I'm tired. Really tired. Noticed something today that made me smile. My shirt hung OVER my belly instead of resting ON it.
Wasn't hungry at all today. Didn't even want a juice. A weird thing today was my thumb joints. They were stiff and sore all day. That's right, my THUMBS were sore. Both of them. I don't get it. I'm going to bed.

the entire trail huh? thats quite the journey in more ways then one. have you done hikes before?
attached is a pic of a visitor i had on the PCT.
Oh..thanks for the bear pic..LOL...
I have hiked in the Wind River Range in Wyoming..but only for about a week...maybe it was 5 days..lol.. It was really hard though..the initial ascent was killer..and my pack did not fit right. I remember this gorgeous alpine lake we camped near..in a gorgeous meadow. The water was so cold and clear for swimming.. No one else was around for miles. I have also been in the Back country in the boundary waters in Northern Minnesota a couple times, for about two weeks at a time, canoing and portaging..and camping. After doing those things, I know if I conditioned myself properly and had the time I could do it!!!! And yes..it would be quite a journey on so many different levels.....
I am counting on eating Raw to get me in shape for those sorts of things and so much more!!!:D
You are doing great on your fast!!! Keep it up.. I hope you feel better..and have a chance to rest this weekend.. :-)

My stomach is growling and now I have a huge headache. I feel a little nauseas. It was weird actually chewing something after so long. As of right this moment I think I'm gonna go back to fasting, maybe take a couple days of small bits here and there but definitely go back to juice.

I'm back on the juice. That avocado really hurt, felt like someone kicked me in the stomach. It was also very hard to sleep and I had dreams (not good ones) for the first time in a while. All for a lil avocado. This morning, after the farmers market, I had a couple grapes and a bite of orange. Not good either. My stomach is making all kinds of noise (sorry neighbors) and my intestines were in knots all day. I also had a headache.
I think I'm staying with the juice for a lil while longer.
500ml orange
1L spinach, broccoli, celery, carrots, tomatoes, yam, Jerusalem artichoke, pepper, lemon
500ml satsuma, blackberry (my fav)
1L water
2 grapes and an 1/2 orange section
oh, and it is really weird eating stuff. I find myself chewing for a long long time.

DAY 9 pour moi.
I know what you went through with the stomach thing! Man-oh-man!!
Thought I'd blend a whole coco yesterday & drink that. Didn't use a thai one, but a round white one instead. Turned out the meat was incredibly thick. Added lots & lots more water in with it. Then drank about a cup of it. My stomach was in such turmoil afterwards! Oh the pain!! (Used 2 cocos actually. My Vitamix was FULL of the mixture. "Retired" the whole thing to some glass jars & left it out all night to ferment. Sometime after I break the fast I'll see whether it's tasty edible or not.)
Had 24 oz of fresh green grape juice after that, to get over the awful sensations. Of course it didn't really help much. Probably just worsened things. Felt ill all night. Couldn't sleep.
On the positive side: went to the gym yesterday & swam for 1 hr & 15 min. And then ran on the treadmill for 30 min. (Guess someone forgot to tell my bod it's on a fast. heh-heh) Pretty cool though.
Anyhow... you're doing good! I guess break it when you're ready to. :)

I wish I could fast and keep that feeling forever, but also feel stronger and able to do more. I am back onm fasting, and started doing wheatgrass yesterday. i am hoping it helps. I was too acid (got the ph test strips) I am counting on the wheatgrass to mineralize and alkalize me..(not too alkaline, though, or I will be a total space cadet.)

I'm so glad to be back on juice. The last two days have sucked. After my last post yesterday, in my misery, I felt I could go no lower and went a little SAD. I've had a craving for fish for quite a while so I had a small portion. It was a huge mistake. First, it didn't taste like I remembered it. My taste buds have changed. I didn't like it at all. Second, my body freaked the F out. I had cramps. My face broke out. I couldn't sleep. I woke up with a head full of snot and a runny nose. I was coughing like a smoker and I had a HUGE headache. A headache that made my eyes water. I was in pain something fierce this morning.
Then comes the juice ... first thing I know what I have to do ...

1L orange, beet, ginger
1L orange, blood orange, satsuma, strawberry, hemp
1L spinach, carrot, celery, yam, cabbage, kale, lemon, horseradish

no sinus trouble
no more runny nose
skin clearing up
no more cramps
no more coughing like a smoker
but to get here was not easy. This morning was hell as my insides cleaned house. It was an amazing amount of material (not to get TOO gross) but by mid-morning I was back in full swing.
more and more people at work are asking me about what I'm doing. They are amazed and full of compliments on how great I look. This is awesome.

Day 10 -- whoohoo!!
Lazed about half asleep almost all day yesterday due to hardly sleeping the night before. All of a sudden at 5 p.m. though I "woke up." Whew! Then ran to the bathroom a lot. (ahem...) Drank just water yesterday. Felt much better after the fiasco from the day before.
I know I should go get a colonic but I'm just not into dealing with it at the moment. My colonic therapist moved (way down to Inglewood!), she raised her prices!, and my car needs a tuneup. Soo... in the interest of trying something new--
This morning I made a juice of 5 apples, 1/2 a cucumber, 1/2 a lemon, 1/2 a lime, & a chunk of ginger -- incredibly tasty combo. :)
THEN... I put it all in the blender with 1/2 of the scraped out jelly from a large aloe leaf. (a natural laxative.) I was going to use the whole thing but freaked at the amount. It looked like a hell-of-a-lot. I'm not ready for tons of cramps & all day in the bathroom!! (Took a laxative the 1st 2 days of the fast. First day was fine, 2nd day--was in & out of the bathroom for 8 whole hrs! Horrible, horrible. And it wasn't worth it either.) (Sorry for the "too much information." But then again...detox & elimination are part & parcel of a fast.)
Anyhoo... waiting to see what will happen. Hope nothing drastic.
Glad you're feeling better & doing better RawCutter! :) And yeah... it's So Cool when people notice how well one looks when they're fasting! Fasting just creates a glow around one's self--skin & all! (As opposed to the sickly-ness looking of anorexics.)
Have you ever been to the raw potlucks at Don's place in Santa Monica? (Just thinking about that. My blended coconuts fermented up just fine. Don ferments Thai cocos & they work incredibly well as a natural probiotic digestive aid. He uses a starter culture though. I'll be curious to see how mine works without the starter culture when I go back to eating.)

When you come off of a fast, you have to ease into it. Eat only one uncomplicated food at a time and work your way up. You can't be scared of eating. Also remember that once you start eating again you will put some of the weight you lost back on, make sure you account for that by loosing a little more than you planned.

I am confused as to how much juice one should drink on a juice fast. I have read that one should not drink more than 40 oz if it is also for weight loss, also have read that if you want weight loss then just vegetable juice and no fruit juice. Also, should the normal 64 oz of water be consumed daily or more than that?

As far as weight loss, read the thread. I've lost 25 lbs drinking both vege and fruit and over 40 oz. I find that I need more than the 64oz of water a day. Before my fast I would consume about a gallon (128oz) a day of water. Since I started my fast I consume between 1 - 1.5 gallons of fluid a day.
and as alicia says, eat when you are hungry, don't if you're not. sometimes my intake is less on juice and more on water

Just passed my two week mark yesterday--whoohoo!! Today starts Day 15.
I agree RawCutter--you are an inspiration here! I love how you're so down-to-earth about this! And 30 days+ now--EXCELLENT!! You're doing So Good!!
I got really inspired by your yummy juice combos, so I went all out yesterday & made up a replica of the juice combo I usually buy (by the quart) from the Co-Op in Santa Monica when I'm there:
2 lbs carrots, 1/2 cabbage, 2 beets, spinach, 2 cucumbers, (they use kale, I had beet greens on hand so used those--my kale in the frig had gone "yellow"), ginger, jalapenos, tomatoes--yum!, lemon & lime (1 whole lemon, 1 & 1/2 lime). Don't know what the diff is, but the Co-Op's version actually tastes much better! I drank about a quart, have about a quart & 1/4 left for today.
All that took up So Much Time to prep, make, & clean up. I felt *chagrined* by my lack of juice variety before, but I might just go back to it anyhow, since it's a bit easier. Throw apples, cukes, ginger & lime in juicer; throw cabbage, cukes, ginger & lime in juicer; grapes, etc. Simple, simple stuff. Who knows.
Saw my colonic therapist Friday. That went semi-okay. Nothing coming out of me really. Ages & ages & ages ago I had chronic fatigue syndrome. At that point I did six or seven 7-10 day psyllium/bentonite fasts with 3 times a week colonics--& enemas on the other days, for a period of 7 months. In between the fasts I ate 100% raw. I passed literally gallons of mucoid plaque. Then I got well--healed, and all was good, great!!! :)
During all my zillions of fasts over the years since then I've always been waiting for more mucoid plaque to be released. I keep thinking--"If only I could get it all out I'd be cured/healed for life."
That thought kept me "neurotic" in a ways forever. Cured/healed of what?? I'm FINE! The other day I had a flash that maybe there is no more mucoid plaque in me. That thought really calmed me. My colonic therapist has been telling me that for ages. So when I saw her on Friday I mentioned this to her--that maybe I didn't have anymore. She basically said--"Halleluah! You got it! You've cleaned yourself out so much over the years that there is No Way any more mucoid plaque could build up in you like that again."
Whew! Things are good! :) Not that I was actually stressing about it for this fast. I'm not sure exactly what the reason is for this particular fast. Perhaps it is to lose the latest weight gain I've got from being back on SAD. I fasted 11 days about 3 months ago, then was finishing up my thesis & ate SAD out of desparation & despair over all the frenzied thesis angst. (Outrageous!!) I only have maybe 15 more lbs or so to lose, so that's cool.
I'm just SO IMPRESSED by you, RawCutter! You've done GOOD!! Love how the weight's dropped off for you!!
I'm thrilled for myself over the weight loss I'm experiencing. My figure's coming back -- whoohoo, hip-hip-hooray!! The definition's coming back, I'm fitting into my smaller sizes, & yesterday I found (with my new smaller sized swimsuit), I wasn't embarrased getting out of the pool anymore! Hooray!! :)
(Oh yum though--can't wait till I can eat again. How exciting for you, RawCutter!)
Man-oh-man -- how I have rambled on! :o
Oh... by-the-by, my colonic therapist is moving again. This time to Culver City--which is so much better! (From Crenshaw Mall, to Inglewood, & now so close again!) She'll be right off the 10, right up from the CC location of Leaf Cuisine. (Best raw restaurant there is, imo!)
Also... don't know RC if you've ever been to the tiny juice bar on Melrose, 1 blk east of Vine, Korner Cafe, but they make a great juice of: carrots, spinach, parsley, celery, cukes, watercress, ginger, lemon & lime. Got 2 *larges* there the other day. Certainly easier/quicker than making it on my own! (ha-ha)

OK, I've received my dehydrator and I'm going nuts!
RawCutter
03-26-2007, 08:41 PM
yesterday I was unable to post an update so here we go.
I received my dehydrator on sat. I've been collecting recipes I want to try and so I immediately put it to use. My first recipe was Carmella's tomato bread. It smelled great while I was making it but I was still intimidated by solids. Reluctantly I did lick the bowl clean of tomato goodness before popping it into the 'oven'. It was really yummy. My next batch I wanted to try was a vege grain bread. A friend at work asked to figure out a way to get his kid to eat more veges. My thought was to use some of my juicer pulp in the bread. I used Carmella's tomato bread as a base but also added 'flour' made from carrots, kale, spinach and beet pulp. I also like the whole seed feel so after mixing the dough I added another handful of sprouted flax, sunflower and pumpkin seeds. This batch went into the oven. Next up corn chips. I cut the kernels off of 12 ears of corn, soaked them in water, drained and processed them with yellow and orange bell peppers, garlic, some soaked sun dried tomatoes and parsley. I wanted them crispy so the extra runny consistency allowed me to spread them thin.
They were in the dehydrator all night and in the morning my apt smelled great. A couple dime sized nibbles of the 'baked' goods and all seemed like they were going good. I went to my Sunday morning farmers market and got a ton of stuff except this time I got avocados, first time in a long time. After getting back from the market I decided to try my corn chips. I broke off a lil bit and added some smashed avocado to it. It was REALLY good. Crunchy and tasty just like I wanted it to be. It was only the size of a triskit (sp?) but it was REALLY filling. Being excited about my corn chips I found a recipe for taco meat and sour cream. The recipe for taco meat I found was just walnuts, cumin, coriander, nama shoyu. It was OK until I added some chili powder, lime juice and a clove of garlic, THEN it was GREAT! I also made a batch of cashew sour cream but along with lemon juice I also added some ume plum vinegar for a lil extra tang.
mind you, I've been going a long time with out solids and I'm still apprehensive of actually eating any of this but I'm still taking small nibs here and there.
I call up a friend who used to be part of my sunday night dinner party ritual. Since I can't really eat any of this I asked if he wanted to try some of this food I'm making. With hesitation, he said yes. I packed everything up. the breads, the corn chips, the meat, sour cream, tomatoes and lettuce and drove over there. I started assembly and I got the 100 questions. What's in it? How long did it take? Is that ALL thats in it?
I told him it tasted good to me based on my thimble sized tastings but I knew that my tastebuds have changed. First up was the tomato bread, eyebrows go up 'mmmmmmm, thats good'. Second up, the vege nut bread, 'mmmmmm, thats good too." then came the tostada. A corn chip layered with smashed avocado, walnut taco meat and cashew sour cream topped with chopped roma tomatoes and red leaf lettuce.
I got the 'OK, here we go ... WOW! This is REALLY GOOD. Totally not what I was expecting from eating walnuts. DAMN! So this is made from veges and nuts? That's it?'
It was a hit. I was happy to see another happy face as I sipped my orange beet juice.
Today I packed up the goods and went to work. The co-worker with the kid saw me in the hall and informed me that he was getting a juicer. Turns out his mother has been juicing a long time and when he brought me up to her, she let him in on it. 'I had no idea she was a juicer too. I feel left out', he said. I gave him samples of the breads and corn chips. He loved them and asked for more to share with co-workers on the other side of the office. Next up was another co-worker that has been trying to go raw as well. He thanked me for his face breaking out. I said, 'you are very welcome' and gave him the sample of the vege seed bread. One bite and I got a 'You should sell this! I mean really. No, really. I'm not kidding you should sell this'. Next up is my project co-worker. He comes in, sits down, I hand him a peice of the vege seed and tomato breads and I get a 'GOOD GOD DUDE! This is awesome!"
Lunch time rolls around and its time to break out the tostadas. I go to the kitchen to start assembly when a co-worker walks up and says, "oh, are you raw? I was raw for a while. what is that?" I started to break it down, corn chips, she asks, "you made that your self?", yes. Taco meat, "you made that your self?", yes. Sour cream, "you made that your self?", yes. "All of it by yourself?". yes, all by myself. 'wow, thats awesome"
I decide, what the hell. I'll join in the mexi-lunch fun so I make myself a lil tostada for myself. I pass them around the office to people who in the past have asked me about what I've been doing. "OMG!", "BRILLIANT!", "THIS IS AMAZING!", "CAN I TELL OTHER PEOPLE ABOUT YOU?"
I have to say it was a very cool couple of days. I did have a few bites to eat. They were good but I'm liking the juice. I can see its gonna be a while before I'm all solids again. So in the meantime I have requests for more stuff. The samples for the daughter got eaten and a couple newbies want a taste.
next up will be a oat date vege seed bread, a tomato basil bread and a herb bread. I will start posting pics too.

todays menu
1L orange carrot
4L water
1L spinach apple
1 tostada with avocado, walnut meat, cashew sour cream, tomato and lettuce
2 small satsuma oranges
Something that I've noticed over the last week is my bones popping. My hips, my legs, my arms ... I think it may because of the weight loss or something. My body might be readjusting. I don't know.
I've also have caught myself slouching a lot. Not sure what's that about.
The last couple days of taste testing has made me feel fat and bloated. It's amazing how such a little amount will effect you. The cool thing is I've found that I have a 3 hour digestion. In by 9, out by noon.
oh, and my nails are growing like crazy. I have to trim them every day it seems

This is a very encouraging thread, and I'm so ready to make myself a part of it! Whew, a girl needs some good encouragement while juice fasting.:p
It's amazing to see what all of you doing. I've just begun the 92 juice feast, and I'm on day three. I love to see posts of folks going for two weeks and beyond and knowing that the detox I'm experiencing will soon end. Grrr. My head aches horribly and my glands are swollen. I've been through it before on other cleanses, but this time it's a bit more intense.

Ahh... Day 16
Need to concentrate on drinking more water!! Would *like* to be doing 3 liters a day, but I guess I'd be satisfied with 2. I think I've only been doing 1.5. My skin's been really dry.
Today I had a yummy quart of orange, juiced yams, & ginger. Yum!! (6 oranges, 2 large yams.) I had a bunch of washed spinach from the other day, so I went & bought tomatoes, ginger, lemon, jalapeno, cucumber, & cabbage to juice it up with. Feel bloated now, tingly. That just wasn't a good idea. I want to go back to what I said I was going to do--just do simpler juices, not such extravagent concoctions. (Still have a bunch of spinach left. May or may not toss it.)
Tomorrow's a new day. :)

While I was SAD I made a conscious effort on increasing my water intake. I buy liter bottles and I know I have to drink at least 4 a day (1 gallon). I drink one in the morning, a second one my mid-day, a third by mid-afternoon and a 4th by the evening. Most of the time I get through the 4 earlier with a 5th after a visit to the gym.
as far as juice combos go I found that I like the simple ones, 3-4 ingredients, the best.

Hmmm... well, for me.. when I stop fasting & go back to solids, I won't be posting over here. I personally won't even be looking at any fasting threads! I'm absolutely 1000% happy to find the fasting forum here--for anytime later on down the line when I'd be fasting again. I know now that I will ALWAYS have a place to come & get mutual support & sharing for what I'm going through. But once I'm back to eating I see no reason for posting over here. :D
Either way.. I ABSOLUTELY want to thank you for being here & starting this thread!
I only "marginally" looked over your incredibly amazing recipes--only because I don't want to tempt myself just yet. But I'll CERTAINLY study them in depth after I break this fast! (They look so yummy. You wanna make some for me -- ha, ha :) )
Just want to throw out a *careful caution* about dehydrated foods & nuts for breaking such a long fast. (Don't mean to step on any toes though!!) They can be "clogging" to the system at first. (I don't intend to eat nuts--which I love, till about 1 & 1/2 to 2 weeks after I break this fast.)
(The first week for me will just be grated apples, fruit "soups", salads with lots of tomatoes in the food processor, etc. Just "wet" foods that'll go right through me.)
Again... I don't mean to "step on toes", be out of line here!
You've done 30+ days--hooray!! Great Job!! :)

as far as the nuts and dehydrated foods n nuts and breaking my fast, caution is noted. I've only been eating teaspoons at a time and there is no clogging yet ... quite the contrary actually. I will be starting more of a salad fruit diet over the next couple of days but I'm still gonna do mostly juice.

I'm new to Raw and Living Foods. My energy level was high at first, then I seemed to go into an exhausted slump with headached. I think maybe I was not eating enough. I found a natural juice -actully it was recommended to me that has helped tremendously and I'm finally loosing weight too. Yeeeaaaah!
Whole fruit pomegranate and whole fruit red grape with whole fruit apple, olive leaf and Aloe Vera. It's also infused with a blend of herbs. It's called Genesis. I was pleasantly surprised with the taste.
If you want more info on it email me. I'm feeling great these days so much so that I've been walking and swimming every day.

Good luck, Wendy! I've actually never had headaches or swollen glands--or any type of uncomfortable detox symptoms! (Other than once or twice having a short mini "racing heartbeat" in one or two other fasts.) Make sure your bowels are moving! Either with enemas, colonics, or herbal laxatives. That should take care of it. (Gotta get those toxins out! :D )

I've ended my fast! (18 days--whoohoo!!)
Today starts my 4th day of eating again. Going slow!! :)
I wasn't sure how long I was going to continue with the fast. 21 days or 30 days "sounds" impressive, but the reality of fasting is that one MUST pay attention to what their body is saying, rather than what the intellect or ego might want.
In the middle of both nights on Day 17 & 18 of my fast I woke up with a "heaviness feeling" in my heart muscle. The first night it passed soon enough, but the 2nd night it was there for hours. I listened to meditation tapes to try & focus my mind elsewhere & to hopefully stop the feeling, hoping it was in my head & not physical, but it didn't really go away.
On Day 19 I felt fine, of course, and while walking around I thought: "I can do this; I can keep fasting." But something inside me said no... time to stop it for now. So I did.
Plus... there was the thing that I'd started looking at some of my fasting books & was reading up again about breaking one's fast. As usual I'd "forgot" about having to ease back into eating, and about how many days it would take. (The longer the fast, the more cautious one needs to be.) I started freaking. I didn't want to take all that time easing back into food! (Though I am--of course!! ;) )
So... it was time to stop the fast.
First day's food
1/2 a Mexican papaya & 3 oranges in the food processor. A fruit "soup", so still technically not solids, but heavier than just the juices. Stomach processed it fine.
1 qt apple juice
Next was: 1 finely chopped ripe tomato with some sea salt & curry powder
Later was: 1/2 shredded apple with squeezed lemon juice & cinnamon
Second day's food
1 chopped up tomato, curry powder & small sprinkling of sea salt
1 shredded apple, lemon juice & cinnamon
1/2 a honeydew melon (yum!!)
1 qt apple juice
Third day's food
1/2 Mexican payaya & 3 oranges blended, with chopped ginger & curry powder
some raw kimchee I had on hand
3 chopped up tomatoes
1/2 honeydew melon
2 large glasses (from juice bar down the street) carrot, celery, broccoli, green pepper juice -- DELISH!!
I will continue to carefully incorporate more whole raw foods in now.
Today I plan on having a small salad: grated carrots, spinach, bell pepper, maybe some chard, onion, tomatoes, grated cukes, & lemon juice. I'll also get more honeydew melon. (I'm SO craving it!! Yum! It's really, really good right now.) Also I'm going to make some of my own carrot, celery, broccoli, green pepper juice. It was so good! (RawCutter was doing something similar.) And then probably more tomatoes, apples, etc. Won't start eating bananas, avocados, soaked nuts, seeds & coconuts till sometime later next week. (I rarely, if ever, eat dehydrated foods, though I might make an exception for some of RawCutter's concoctions! hint-hint :D )
Bowels are moving perfectly normal at this point, so that's great! Still bloating out a bit though. Probably need to do a serious psyllium/bentonite colon cleansing fast, with colonics, for about 7-10 days. But I've got to get busy doing other things at the moment, so it will have to be later on down the line for that.
Soo... sayonara (sp) to all! (If anyone is even reading this??) At least I have a place to come to now whenever I fast. (I fast semi-regularily. Did an 11 day water fast with 6 colonics back in November.)

Final post here!
Last evening--Day 5 of breaking my 18 day fast, I reached the "True Hunger" phase. Man was I HUNGRY!!!!! I was going berserk, having picked up all the fixings for a great salad right before it. I couldn't wait to fix the salad & eat it!! WOW. It was amazing! All I can say is: "Thank God I broke the fast when I did, so that when this "true hunger" hit I was able to eat without having to worry about hurting myself from a "major shrunken" stomach! (Due to the fast. ;) ) I didn't eat as large of a yummy raw salad as I normally do--kept it toned down a bit--but I made & ate more than I thought I'd do for my first post-fast salad. It was all good!
Main thing is: last evening I *officially* knew my fast was indeed over. All phases. It was a good fast--for continued great health, longevity, etc! :)

Hi Everyone,
I'm still fasting. I alternate between water fasting, to lemon juice with water, and occasionally grapefruit juice diluted with water. I just started to include a shot of diluted organic raw prune juice yesterday, for a bit of change.
I am planning on 21 for my short term goal, and 28 for my long term goal.
If I make it to 28, I may go for 30-40 days. As always, I prefer to take it one day at a time.
After this fast, I plan on sticking to fruit and tender green juices for awhile, for transitioning.
The hardest part is cooking for my partner, and smelling the foods when either he or I have cooked. Also it has curtailed my socializing a bit, especially when food is at the center of a particular social event.
I am feeling good, otherwise.
Best of luck to everyone here!

Haven't posted here in a while. Looks as though everyone is doing great! Very encouraging to see.
I'm on day 18 of my juice fast and all is going well. I get hungry around 3pm everyday so I'm still trying to figure out how to deal with this one cuz I'll be hungry while drinking my juice!
This morning I'm having OJ, some coconut water and I brought a half gallon of alkaline wter with green powder and lemon. Hopefully, the green powder and water will do something to cut my 3pm cravings. It's an experiement!
Wishing all the best today!:D

Today was my first day on the juice fast. I didn't consume anything until I was hungry and didn't seem to need much.
Menu:
1 L Water
500 mL Green Drink
500 mL Orange Drink
Green Drink:
2 handfuls of spinach, half a thing of broccoli, 3 small apples, half a lemon
Review: Good but really sweet. That's why I added the broccoli
Orange Drink:
3 oranges, 5 carrots, inch of ginger, 2 stalks celery
Review: Weird combination. Tasted bitter.
Feeling:
I had a headache earlier and was really tired all day. After I had the green drink, my headache went away. I realized that I was really dehydrated.

I slept like a rock and got up a couple hours earlier than usual. The first thing I wanted to do today is clean my house, which is totally crazy for me. My muscles hurt, but over-all, I feel great!
I plan to get some excersize in today.
I have never seen 1 Liter water bottles. Wow. That is a lot of liquid.

DAY 3
4L water with lemon and blood orange
1L spinach, carrots, tomato, garlic, broccoli, celery
wasn't really hungry today so I just drank water.
until i got back from the gym ... then I NEEDED a green drink. 3 gulps and the liter was gone and it was damn good.

I was so tired today and really hungry. I didn't have much energy, and was also forced to deal with a lot of emotions that I usually use food to settle. I think we store a lot of negative emotions and memories in our guts somehow, and it all comes out when you loose weight or if you aren't able to eat your comfort foods.
Todays Menu:
500mL Green Drink
500mL Orange Drink
500mL Red Drink
1 L Water
Green Drink -
1/2 bunch spinach, 1 broccoli stalk, 4 small apples, 1/2 lemon.
Review: Sweet, Foamy, Pallatable. Dispite the color, makes a great breakfast.
Orange Drink -
8 carrots, 1 large tomato, 3 stalks celery.
Review: Tasted great! Had a good "v8" flavor. Not too sweet like you would expect from an orange drink
Red Drink -
2 beets, 2 inches ginger, 5 oranges, 3 carrots
Review: I don't like beets but I washed them first so that helped tone down that tangy bitter flavor. It kind of reminds me of cranberry juice, but with an earthier flavor. Whatever. I just guzzled it.

Does anyone know which veggies I can juice that would provide me a good amount of oil? Getting 1 tbsp of oil every day protects your stomach lining. Last time I fasted for 7 days, I had mostly water and I ended up with an ulcer. I am off to nutriondata.com to see which veggies have the most fat.

I made myself some OJ, felt much better then headed to a good day at the gym. Still not great but the best so far this week. My tongue is starting to coat but I'm over my cold/flu/crud/whatever it was. People I know who caught the crud before me still have it.

I though day 3 was going to be the hardest, but now I think it was my second day. Because I just did a raw food diet for 30 days, I think my body is working a lot faster. Anyways, yesterday on Day 3 I had 2 drinks. One was greenish and one was brownish. They both tasted like crap so it doesn't matter what was in them. (I decided to rejuice my pulp after making my red and green drink and ended up with a thick brown juice that when added to my orange drink ended up poopy brown. Blech.)
I think that my depression has subsided thanks to this fast. I have actually had motivation to get things done around my house. Yay!

It seems like I've been doing this forever. I'm a little bit tired but I did wake up at 4.30a, worked a 10hr shift then went to the gym.

Hey Ya'll, on day 23 and going great!
Had a huge fruit based juice this morning. Felt good. Melon, grapes, and orange. Balanced it with a green powder drink.
Chrisitahall: Try brushing after you drink every juice. Our teeth can take a hit from all the sugar and such from the juices. Also, adding hemp or flax oil to your juice will give them a longer burn and take the place of the oil your looking for from your veggies.

Hey folks does it count as juice fasting if I use my blender for most stuff instead of my cheapy juicer. I mean the pulp leaves things almost pudding like. I don't mind diluting because I really dislike frothy especially pineapple pulpy froth.
I just don't want to have a lot of waste. If i juice i can make a batch or two of crackers and fruit leather with the leftovers but in two days I'll fill my dehydrator.
I already compost
Hmm thoughts?

Rawcutter,
Your thread is very inspiring with all those creative recipes for juices. I am still not clear on how you take the juices to work. I mean do you just use regular bottles to refill them? what about the taste? i heard the longer the juices are kept, the taste and nutritions get depleted. This is one of the biggest challenges i found to take juices to work. i heard in another thread if you fill to the top, then there will be no oixdising effect, and the juices stay fresh. do you follow this technique? wonder if its true. any help in guiding me with my challenges is appreciated :)

Sorry for the delay but I've been out of communication for the past couple of months.
I made my juice every day and put them in water bottles that I had washed out to reuse filling them to the top to limit the exposure to air. They had refrigerators at work in which I kept them in. It may have not been the ideal way but it was the only way I could make it work for me.

I have a feeling you need EFA oils and sodium. I am on day 6 of my juicefast. This time I have NO CRAVINGS!!! :) Way better than my last 2! The difference this time is:
-I am adding 1tb hemp seed oil or flax seed oil to each 8 oz of juice
-I also add 1tsp of himalayan or sea salt to a 12oz water ea day
-I cut out caffine, gum, alcohol and non-raw foods a week before the fast
These 3 things combined have made this fast the most enjoyable ever! :D Yes I have pains, aches and am more tired than usual. But overall I feel GREAT!! I am so proud of myself not giving in this time. I plan on doing 14 days this time. Last time I did 10 days.
I wish you the best of luck! Try the salt and EFA oils. I hope they help! ;)

Went to the farmers market today and it was difficult to find ingredients. Spinach has not been found for the last 2 weeks and kale was very scarce too. I was able to get 3 varieties of kale though, dinosaur, regular and purple. I'm glad I got more than usual because so far the dino kale does not give up the juice too well. Today went by very fast. I don't know where the day went. I got a lot of stuff done and nothing at all. Running around doing stuff I forgot that I was fasting. The big thing today was my pH. I tried to keep track of it.
my pH level went from 6.0 at 5am to 7.5 at 9am
at 9.30 i drank a orange, beet juice with a pH of 5.0
at 10.30 my pH had dropped to 6.5 and by 11..15 it had dropped to 5.5
by 12 noon it had made a comeback all the way to 7.0
at 5pm I had another juice. this time tomato, kale and celery.
by 6pm my pH had dropped again to 5.5 but by 8 pm it was back to 7.0
I dont know what it all means right now but im just collecting data

I just break a piece off and throw it in the juicer. beware though, ginger adds a lot of heat so start with small pieces. i drink ginger in one of my juices almost every day.

So far this fast has been uneventful. I thought my glands were gonna swell but that only lasted half a day. My face broke out but only for a day. No real discomfort or anything. I can't believe its day 12.
Todays menu
2L water + 2L sparkling
1L grape, apple
1L tomato, celery, carrot, bell pepper, sea salt
today I was really bust running around doing errands n stuff. I forgot I was fasting

Day 12 already! That's great. So how many days are you going for? (you may have already mentioned that somewhere:rolleyes: )
I plan on joining you as soon as my financial advisor (DH) gets me my juicer of choice. Also want to read Angela Stoke's book about Juice Feasting before I start.
Do you juice at work or do you just make it all in the morning and bring it with you?
And what do you do with all the leftover pulp? Would it make good compost?

The day started off GREAT. I woke up from what seemed to be a coma, fully refreshed. I made myself a fresh orange juice with coconut and it was awesome. I then soaked in the tub for a while. It was a great day until ...
I started to clean the freezer out. I had some king crab still in there and I decided to have a piece.
Really bad idea. First, it didn't really taste all that great and as soon as it hit my stomach the pains started. It felt like somebody punched me. I then started to feel really hot, like a fever over coming me. I started pounding some water to try to get it to move through. It just got worse. I started to get concerned that I was having an allergic reaction. I was doubled up in pain and burning up. My fasting buddy suggested taking some ginger to help to calm my stomach so I made up an apple ginger juice. It helped a lot. The heat subsided and my stomach settled. An hour later, my body got rid of everything in a big way.
dang, what a night.

yikes, that sounds rough! It is amazing what we go through in these bodies...I'm glad you are feeling better
I'm on day three of a fast and thought I would join in here. I dropped my work schedule way down this week and have some good camping planned in September, and I am considering going for as long as I can
this morning:
psyllium and bentonite clay (after my oil pull)
coconut water and spirulina....this is my absolute all time favorite discovery... the spirulina makes it really creamy and the color.....oh, it just does something to me!
lunch, cukes, collards, clove of garlic and 2 baby radishes in the juicer
one thing I wanted to share...I have been making coconut water kefir...it's tangy/tasty but also the kefir is a good way to build up the GI system's immunity function...it also gives me a science project to experiment with in the kitchen!
PS: Rawcutter, your forum pic has amazing energy...contagious shiney smile! thanks

Back on track with another beautiful day. This morning was the farmers market and I got a ton of stuff. The afternoon was spent hanging around the pool with some friends drinking pina coladas, except me, who drank coconut water out of a coconut shell. The rest of the pool party was very supportive of my situation.
Todays menu
3L water
1L kale apple
1L tomato, celery, carrot, bell pepper, sea salt
500ml coconut water
I feel the end coming near. maybe in a couple days ill move to avocados and fruit

A good ole mason jar or recycled bottle works but if you are hot for the "LIVE" factor I recently read that if you temper a thermos with cold water and put it in the freezer for a few hours, that you can add fresh juice to it and the enzymes will last up to 4 hours....I know your workday probably lasts longer than that but I hope that helps

Thanks for the idea.. found some old jam jars..seems to work!!
Had a good day for being still and quiet with juice today. Off work unwell, so this seems the perfect time to focus on myself and juicing.
Had 1 litre Green juice - Batvia Lettuce, 2 Cucumbers, 1 pear, 2 lemons and 1 lime
1 pint Carrot Juice- About 6 carrots, a tiny bit of ginger, 1 very small apple- tiny unsprayed cox- smaller than a lemon, about lime sized!
Now making up some Melon mylk .. as much as I can get out of 1 huge Gailia.. dont expect I will drink all of that
Feel satisfied and calm for sure :)

I'm on day 7 of my juice feast and feeling pretty good. :) The last two days I've had a runny nose & sneezing, but otherwise the first week was better than I expected. <g>

Sarah, That's great! I am on day 2. I started this with a cold so it's hard to discern whether I am having real cold symptoms or detox. But this is easier (so far) than I thought it would be. No hunger really. Just a little bit, but juice makes it go right away.
SO how long are you going? 92? I am going 70. My fast will actually end on Thanksgiving day! LOL
Congrats on your success. :)

Kelly,
I'm aiming for 92, but I'm not stuck on the number. ;) I'll see how I feel as time goes on. So far though, I'm loving it... detox and all. <g>
