I have been craving, craving, craving hummus...I tried the different kinds of veggie hummus recipes, and while good, none hit the spot like chickpea hummus! Soooo....

I went to the bulk bins and got the dried chickpeas, and soaked them for 24 hours. Then I laid them out on a plate to sprout for about 3 days, just like the book says. Except, they never softened up. They got little thick white sprouty things out of the tops, but they never got soft enough, and when I tried putting them in the food processor, they didn't even really chop up! I was majorly bummed, and resorted to my second favorite, a black olive pate...but still. I miss my hummus.

Has anyone made the hummus? Any tips, suggestions, or advice??? I would be forever grateful!

Something I've heard and not tried yet is this...

Sprout your checkpeas making sure that after the initial soak, you rinse them a couple of times daily so they don't dry out too much.

Then dehydrate them until dry, whiz them up in a blender or food processor and then reconstitute with water. Add everything else you normally would to make hummus. Apparently it makes a nice creamy hummus.

Uh, now I think I want some...

Hmmmm.....I think I will just buy the green chick peas and shell them and make it. They are already soft.
