Let your food be your medicine, and your medicine be your food.
Hippocratus

I'm looking for more quotes like this. Not raw food quotes, but quotes that speak to the importance of food to one's health and the treatment of disease.

Anyone have any others, hopefully with references?

"If you can dream it, you can do it"

"You create your own universe as you go along"

I don't know who they are from, but it sort of applies to raw food. The way I am coming to understand trying to become a raw foodist, is that the more I focus on raw fruits and veggies and just ignore my slip ups, the less slip ups I begin to have. The more I focus on having done something or ate something wrong/not raw the more it shows up in my life and the more cravings and thoughts about it show up.

"Keeping your body healthy is an expression of gratitude to the whole cosmos - the trees, the clouds, everything." -Thich Nhat Hanh

"As I see it, every day you do one of two things: build health or produce disease in yourself." - Adelle Davis

Just for fun:

"Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in hospitals dying of nothing." - Redd Foxx

"Never eat more than you can lift." - Miss Piggy

“When they talk about healthy food, they usually mean things that don't taste very good.” - Julia Child

Sorry to be so picky, but I was thinking more along the lines of how food relates to general health and well-being as well as the treatment of disease.

The reason I'm asking is that I would like to have some quotes that would help convince people of the impact food has on health.

Well, I think a few of the funny ones would be fine too but that's just my opinion.

People have to lighten up and if you show them that eating healthy can be fun too, not all serious...

It's like how Ukranians are always making good fun of themselves. And the Irish (that's me) and the Italians etc...

So why not people who eat a certain way?

Just my thoughts. I love the Miss Piggy quote, awful good advice wouldn't ya say! :D

Hmmmm, well first I would ask you, Bredelly, just who is it you want to convince?

I'm thinking if common sense doesn't tell people that what they put in their mouth affects their health, then trying to sum it up in a neat, tidy quote for them probably won't be enough to convince them. Probably much more convincing would be to give them people's personal stories and pictures... whole articles, if you will. Look through some of the personal blogs here and on the internet.... there are many success stories there!

Hey Walkin'onWater, here's another Miss Piggy quote for you:

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.”

"Would you cook yourself in a 350* oven? No. So don't do that to your food. You are what you eat" but that is advocating raw more than just eating healthy

Bredelly[COLOR="Black"]I did a paper for a writing course I took, these are some of the quotes I used concerning the rawfoods lifestyle.

"Until he extends his circle of compassion to all
> living things, man will not himself find peace."
> --Albert Schweitzer

“And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat” (Genesis 1:29)

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world.....” Romans 12:1-2

“But Zeus was angered in his heart and hid the means to life because Prometheus with his crooked schemes had cheated him. This is why Zeus devised sorrows and troubles for men - he hid fire. But Prometheus, noble son of Iapetos, stole it back for man from Zeus, whose counsels are many. In the hollow of a fennel stalk he slipped it away, unnoticed by Zeus, who delights in thunder. So the cloud-gatherer in anger said to him: ‘Son of Iapetos, there is none craftier than you, and you rejoice at tricking my wits and stealing the fire which will be a curse to you and to the generations that follow. The price for the stolen fire will be a gift of evil to charm the hearts of all men as they hug their own doom.’” - Hesiod

hey--while you all are working on putting together these quotes, anyone have any idea where i can find this one?: ive been looking for it for a long time; saw it on a raw foods website at the bottom of someones posts ages ago and cant seem to find anyone who knows it now:

It was something about how plants and herbs REVEAL themselves to us as food, but animals dont. about how things like sage and herbs call out to our senses that they are food, because they smell good etc. i think it was by a famous male poet....like whitman or something..... sorry for the vague description, but if anyone knows it i would love to have the source for it

thanks

Hey Sweet Pepper- that mythological quote just blew me away now that I have Raw understanding! I'm fascinated with the evolution of humans once they shifted to cooked food and wish I could research it but it's so obscure; it's no surprize the issue cropped up in mythology. Thanks for sharing that!

Need new ones. "Too many cooks spoil the broth" doesn't translate well to uncook and smoothie.
