Is there a type of nut that can be used in place of macadamia nuts in recipes like raw cheeses and dips? I can't afford macadamias! Thanks for any suggestions.

cashews, almonds, and sunflower seeds are some things I've seen mentioned in those types of recipes. Sometimes if a recipe calls for all cashews or all macadamias, I'll do part those and part something else to stretch it out and not use up all of the (expensive) mac nuts.

I have also seen pine nuts listed as a substitute....and I have seen it say in brackets beside macadamia nuts to use any white nut. :p

Hi,

In Alissa's book she says you can substitue cashews for macademia nuts, they are about the same consistancy and much cheeper.

Macademias have more oil, so when I use cashews instead, I add a little coconut oil too.

The only thing I use macademia nuts for are mushroom stroganoff, and making whipped cream.

Other than that I use cashews instead, and the recipes are wonderful.
