I'll be at a conference in mid-March at the Marriott portland dowton Waterfront Hotel, 1401 SW Naito Parkway. I will have at least one free fternoon and evening. Are there any RAW restaurants, or good vegan restaurants nearby? I'll be on foot, but could rent a cab easily enough. I'm very excited to hear some good news here!:p
i can't wait to hear the replies to this- i'll be in portland in early may.

As someone else mentioned, Blossoming Lotus (http://www.blpdx.com/) is excellent. The live pizza is my favorite, and the have excellent desserts. Another good one is Proper Eats (http://www.propereats.org). They have a couple of raw items on their menu, but they usually have a raw special of the day, and some items in their deli case as well.
Another restaurant to try is Veganopolis (http://www.veganopolis.com). As the name implies, it's a completely vegan restaurant (cafeteria style). It's right downtown on SW 4th at Stark. They have a couple items that are raw. A raw platter of the day, a "build your own salad" item on their menu and a raw almond pate that is tasty. They also sell raw kombucha there as well.

Thanks, Ella! I checked all the sites yo forwarded to me, all of which lead to more sites! There's a Food Fight convenience Store which has many vegan items, for example. Blossoming Lotus looks like a great place, and I think will be near where I'm staying.:p

Thanks, Xiola! I wish I had time to eat at all these places!! I'm going to take all the addresses and hit as many as I can! Do you live there? I would love to have lunch or dinner with you somewhere on Mar. 20, if you can. Meanwhile, I'm going to save all this great info!

Just a note about Food Fight, if you are planning and staying raw, this is not the place to go. Don't get me wrong, Food Fight is like a vegan's paradise, but they have zero raw foods. It's literally an all vegan convenience store. Lot's of candy, and heavenly junk food. Also, Pirates Tavern, again, all vegan, but so not raw (burgers and fries, pasta dishes, and all items are deep fried). So yummy, so bad :D But, take a look here (http://www.foodfightgrocery.com/pdxguideinset.html) on Food Fight's website. They have a guide to all things vegan around Portland.

I got back from my conference on Wednesday. I had 2 great meals at The Blossoming Lotus, which wee wonderful I ordered the pizza both times. Outstanding! I also had one lunch at Veganopolous. It was also good but not quite as fabulous. I did pick up a couple of RAW Revolution Bars there however. I'm always interested in thngs to carry on long bike rides.
I didn't try Smart Monkey or Proper Eats, but wish I had. What a great city! I loved all that free transportation, andpoking around in Powell's Book Store for an afternoon.
Once again, thanks to Xiola, Ella, and Wyjoz for the good leads!
Hi BlazinJane,

There is a big raw foods community in Portland. On your next visit you should check out the raw food events in town. We have them listed at
www.RawPortland.org
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RawPortland
This week we have four events- a potluck, a food demo, and a presentation by raw foods author Jenny Cornbleet. We are putting on a raw foods retreat with Gabriel Cousens and the Boutenko Family in September: http://www.rawandlivingspirit.org/
