Hi all,
I just spent a week in Kauai where I got eaten alive by mosquitos. I was with a group of 16 people and I got WAY more bites than anyone else. The only other person who got bit up, though not as bad as me, was vegetarian. I am wondering if maybe our blood/scent is sweeter to mosquitos than meat eaters? Someone tried to say a vitamin b deficiency can attract them, but I highly doubt I am b deficient...I take a muti vitamin made for vegans with 8000% of the daily requirement. Any thoughts?

Last year when I was doing the raw food diet, I had maybe 2 mosquito bites where in years past, they have eaten me alive. I also didn't get bitten by the dreaded Walapai tiger beetle that is all over the place here. I am highly allergic to them and have been bitten up to 50 times in years past (hence the allergy to them;))
Are you eating lots of fruit or sweets? When I started last year, I was eating lots of greens and garlic and onions, sprouts and not much in the way of fruits or sweet things. Maybe this had something to do with it?

WOW, I'm sorry to hear about you being eaten alive by skeeters.
I find that the more pure I am with my food, the less they bother me.
I used to have to pretty much stay inside, or totally encased in a net as a child, when I was eating meat and dairy, when I went vegetarian, they started to leave me alone, still bothered me some, but not near as much, then when I went vegan, they almost forgot about me
then when I went raw, no more bites,
I did notice, when I would eat cooked, that flies and mosquitos loved me though, maybe it is a detox thing.
I wish you well, amonia will take away the sting, just dab it on, you will still get bit, but at least you won't itch to death.

The past two years I was raw during skeeter time and I dind't get bit once. Before, on the other hand, i used to look like I had chicken pox lol.

Well I seem to be an anomoly! All I know is I'm very thankful we don't have mosquitos here in California! Ick!
How long have you been 100% raw? What they are attracted to is the smell of a toxic system. If one were 100% raw for at least a year and the mosquitoes were attacking the same or even worse than before it would be wise to look at other things that may be causing these toxins, such as meds, personal care items, detergents and cleansers, even the toxins from industries in the area.
If one is raw for less time than that it could be that their body was simply detoxing at the time and therefore the smell was stronger.
at any rate sorry you had this problem,

What this makes me wonder is: in a perfect world (or a primitive world) when all animals and humans ate pure diets- what did the moquitos eat??? Don't they need blood!?
I HATE mosquitos--- but this question is still on my mind!!!

Perhaps you are in the process of getting rid of parasites and they are/were in your blood stream more than usual.

that is a good question. I'm wondering too now! :D
Since going RAW, I do get bitten by mosquitos less now. I thought they were out of the area or something.
sungoddess, you think like me.
I used to wonder the same thing about bacteria until I found that their sole purpose in life is to eat toxic and decaying matter. Bacteria exist in all living things at all times. It is a symbiotic relationship. Our body cells die at a rate of ten million every second and must be carried from the body with other wastes. Bile lubricates and flushes the liver and detoxifies the poisons that accumulate in the liver. The bile salts are themselves very toxic and corrosive. Without bacteria breaking them down in the small intestine they would cause extreme damage to the large intestine. Also estrogen and other hormones released in the body must be broken down by the bacteria otherwise they are reabsorbed by the body and build up as deposits in the breasts and uterus. These deposits are fibroids and tumors.
When there is more for them to eat they flourish and there are of course more of them. When there is less for them to eat such as in a person raised on raw food in an area with relatively clean air and water there are will still be over 500 kind of bacteria throughout their body and from 3 to 4 pounds of bacteria in the intestines alone. And as stated they are in all living things whether plant or animal.
Back to the mosquitoes, they feed on blood that contains decaying material. According to scientists humans should live forever. They do not know why we don’t. No such claim is made for any other living thing on the planet. So it would stand to reason that if all things on earth were working in perfection the mosquitoes would still feed on the decaying materials in animals. Also with less food for them there would be a smaller population.
Just reasoning out loud,

Mosquitoes drink nectar. Female mosquitoes also drink blood (I've seen a picture of a mosquito who drank half a dose of nectar and then some blood). Maybe there was once a flower whose nectar provided them with all the nutrients they need to lay eggs.

In one of Victoria Boutenko's books she says they go camping and sleep out under the stars(w/out getting bit) while their nonraw friends sleep in tents and battle biting bugs

agh... i learn so much on RFT!!! :D
Thanks Pierre. Everything is here for a reason and is a part of the cycle of life. It is good to know that they also drink nectar.

I had only been raw 2 months so I was/am still very toxic. I have been vegan for a year and a half though. And I didn't use any lotions or anything while I was there for them to be attracted to smell. I was doing bikram yoga twice a day while I was there so I was likely sweating out a lot of toxins. I am not sure...I may have gotten bit after the evening class while waiting around for the other people when I was still sweaty? Anyway, was just curious. It's nice to know that if I stay raw and go traveling again hopefully I won't have the same problem? I'm supposed to go to Thailand at the end of the year and they have mosquitos there too. Mosquitos that carry dengue fever!
