Hi all! I am really needing to turn my health around! I am only 22 and already my cholesterol is getting a little high and blood pressure also, I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and I have had two miscarriages and hubby and I are trying for children. I feel fatigued all the time and I have asthma also. It seems like everything thing else I have ever tried has not worked and this is something I am not familiar with or have ever tried. So please give me any advice or encouragement. I ordered Dr. Timothy Brantley's book (I saw him on rachel ray and I really liked what he had to say). I am just getting into the whole raw eating idea...I dont even know where to begin to get recipes or what not. Please help in any way possible. Thanks so much.

Hi and welcome!

Here is a thread from about 6 months ago regarding PCOS: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=17354&highlight=pcos

I've seen a few ladies here who have/had that and raw either helped them greatly or totally eliminated it.

I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions, etc and there are more threads regarding it (you can do a search for them if you'd like using our search feature) but I thought that the thread I posted may help you get inspired about the possibility of a raw diet being a part of healing this.

As far as recipes and getting started, I can't recommend Alissa's Living on Live Food enough! Check out this "review page": http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=21157&highlight=living+on+live+food :D

But also, just being here is a great start - we have a wonderful supportive community as well as a pretty awesome recipe section with LOADS of recipes, some that are creations of our very own members here! So check that out.

check my siggy for my weight loss this week - and it was even with SAD dinners some nights and a few cheats because I simply cant afford to throw away a lot of food - so I need to eat some things and wean it out of the cupboards and fridge

Ive bought so much produce its insane but it really has been wonderful going all day at least upto dinner on raw, then a night snack of usually 3 oranges quartered

I think this is seriously going to be a great lifestyle for me-- now my poor husband feels a bit lost since I havent been cooking like I use to - He does not want to go raw, so I have to continue to cook "sad" dinners for him - but when I get Alissas cookbook and the dehydrator Ill be experimenting and trying to come up with some of our favorite dinners and make them in raw form

I also suspect that I have had PCOS for many many years, not documented with the doctors since I dont have ins right now but Im 25 and I had trouble concieving we tried for 1.5years and miscarried the week after we found out about our first pregnancy THAT was hard, I of course turned to food and gained a lot within a very short period - it took another 1.5years to concieve our now 2yo son! I saw Alissa on Tyras show, flipping through it in the wee hours as my son thinks DAY is NIGHT lol And we dont tend to get to bed til 4am lately! But Im a SAHM so it isnt a huge deal.

I was intriqued by the little bit that I cought while watching it, jotted her name down did a search and came here and got hooked instantly just by looking at how the food pictures looked. Reading stories, seeing the support the members have for others.

Im excited to make this a lifestyle for me, and working on my son - he loves smoothies but wont touch most raw fruit or veggies ( will eat cooked veggies though ) so I just keep introducing things in the raw forms and he will take when ready I suppose.

Everyone will tell you to get Alissas book, I just put an order in tonight for both dvd and book and can not wait!!

I will say as one thats been overweight practically all her life, whos done ww, counting calories, restricting fruits ect ... this has been soooooo wonderful to just grab when I want to and EAT IT! And obviously thats working since over the past 2months Ive kept gaining back some weight I lost and I finally saw a loss this week!!! So Im excited to see what next weeks weigh in shows ;)

Defiently just keep it simple - my mistake - trying a ton of new fruits and veggies that was EXPENSIVE!! Stick with what you truly do love to eat now because you will also go for them and if you can like someone else has said try 1 new thing a week.

I need to run out tomorrow and bar a jar of almond butter and more celery sticks and raisins - yummmy!!!

Good Luck -- please feel free to PM me if youd like - Id love to start a friendship with someone that is also starting out and go on this journey with them too! Compare notes, offer extra support - I certainlly know what it feels like to go through the trying to get pregnant and it isnt happening bit :( Sorry youre dealing with that!! Im hoping in 8months to be in a position I truly feel healthy enough to take out the IUD I had placed after my son, and hope for the best that we get pregnant right away - really wanting a spring/summer baby since I have a winter one now ;)

Hi April. My experience with the raw food lifestyle last year was absolutely amazing. I lost 32 pounds in 6 weeks, my blood pressure went from 156/89 to 113/75, my acne cleared up, I had energy coming from every pore in my body, etc...I could go on and on about all the changes I saw in 6 short weeks. I did not go off of the plan even once during that time and I think that made a difference. I went off of it after 6 weeks and my life kind of went crazy for a while. I am basically starting over again with it now, but I KNOW that it works from personal experience. I hope you give it a try.

Hi Tryingforababy!

Raw will improve your health a lot even if it doesn't end up curing you. :o

YES!! Raw really works. Many, many people have cured all kinds of illnesses. Stick with raw, you will be so glad that you did. I healed from chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, IBS, hormonal imbalances, obesity, depression and anxiety! It is amazing what our bodies can do once we get out of their way and provide them with the proper conditions.

Best of luck to you!

Blessings,

Audrey

Hey! I'm so proud of you!! Please let me know if this works for you. I have read that it will, in a book about PCOS. MY sister has this, and she was not willing to consider any kind of natural cure. So she went through all the doctoring and then they adopted. I was so willing to bet that if she tried this diet, she could have gotten pregnant.
I say go for it, dream big, and you will have your baby.!!!!

One more thing,
YOu could start just by putting some greens in the blender (with some fruit if you want it to taste better) and drink that every day. That will at least give your body a nutritional boost while you are finding out more info about the raw diet. Alissa's book is wonderful, like they say, very encouraging, and you can follow her plan for the first weeks. The main thing is to dramatically increase your intake of greens for your vitamins and minerals, and then when you get more info you can add more tasty recipes.

OOOOoooooo I"m so excited for you!!!

I'm 27. Too young for all those problems.

I got started by buying Alissa's book, and any other book I could find. I wrote down a list of my favorite things to eat, and then looked up ways to replace them. This included a lot of avocados, dates, raw cacao nibs (chocolate), young coconuts, and spices. I bought equipment by selling stuff I no longer needed (microwave, cookbooks, etc) on ebay and using the proceeds to buy what I needed. I make lots of recipes throughout the week to keep it interesting and varied. I write in a journal about how I feel...this is how I got started. The best way to get started is just to go to the store, and buy a ton of fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds...start making smoothies, juices, pates, salads, and the like. :D
