View Full Version : Can't stick with recipes

I don't know why this is. I see a recipe that looks good. I make it. May or may not like it. If I do like it, I feel really gung ho about it (and I'm not really a gung ho type person) and I make it again. But the second or maybe the third time I make it I'm like...eh. I like it but... And then I eat only a bit of it or none at all and it winds up in the trash. I do have a husband and daughter. Daughter will sometimes eat the raw food but husband won't eat anything he thinks might be even remotely helahty. He's a lost cause. And my parents told me to stop bringing the raw stuff over because they don't feel well after they eat it. In that case I don't think it is detox. They are eating their regular meal and then MY stuff on top of it. More likely it's gluttony making them ill.
I'm getting tired of wasting the food and also of making trips to the store for something special that sounded good on a whim. I still do like the sandwiches of onion bread, Swiss nut cheese, lettuce and tomatoes but even when I make recipes of those it doesn't all get eaten. I don't feel like making partial recipes either because it seems like so much work for so little food.
I'm finding I'm the same way with sprouts. I make a batch, eat a few then throw them out. I guess really I just prefer plain cut up raw veggies and a handful of nuts. But every time I see pics of things or recipes posted or in books I think they look or sound good and I want to try them.
Anyone else having this same dilema?

I'm sort of in the same boat...like with the sprouts, I seem to waste about 1/2 my batch. So what I'm going to start to do is just use a tablespoon of seeds instead of two. But then again, I do find myself eating them straight out of the sprouter after I've rinsed them.
There are some raw dishes my BF eats as a side, not as his main course. He'll eat the desserts for sure though. So its interesting to him to see what "new creation" i'll come up with. I guess to him it looks like i came up wiht alot of these recipes by myself.
I think the thing I like most about this diet is that not any one recipe is final...in other words you can deviate from the ingredients, substitute ingredients, and/or give it your personal touch. So I never feel like "oh...I'm having salad AGAIN." instead i'm thinking "what am I throwing in it today?"
;)
besides, the ideas i get from others here on the board...FANTASTICOS!!

I find I have favorite recipes that I make over and over and they're my staples. Some of those are:
Smoothie (every morning!)
Cheesecake
Kale Salad with pinenuts
Raw Apple Pie
RHP's brownies!
Blueberry pie
Apple/Turnip salad
Beet/Pear Salad
Can you tell I have a sweet tooth?
I know I need to add more greens. This week I got a leek and some celery in my organic foodbox and I have no idea what to do with them!
I've just added a couple to my favorite list and that includes
Maraw's Cabbage Cilantro slaw.. OMG! If you haven't tried this, do!
I also love just mixing up cashews or walnuts with dates or raisins, adding some sea salt and munching on those.
I haven't lost much more weight, and I'm probably about 15 pounds over my ideal weight, but I feel GREAT, have lots of energy, and am happy. I think the weight will come off as I do the Tae Bo and exercise rather than diet is needed in that arena.
I had a massage today and the massage therapist raved about how healthy I looked and how flexible I was. YAY!

You and I are just the opposite then. You couldn't pay me to drink a smoothie and I don't much like desserts of any kind, raw or otherwise. Don't like fruit either. I do sometimes make a beet salad, loosely basing it on a cooked recipe I used to make. It's good but there again after I've had one serving I don't want any more of it.
I do love salads, but tossed salads. Mostly just all vegetables and perhaps nuts and every once in a while a thinly sliced apple or pear on it. Today I bought a bunch of bell peppers because they looked nice and big and firm. I'll probably just cut them in chunks and eat them as is.
Not sure about the leeks. The only way I've tried them was cooked and even then they seemed rather tough. Love celery though. Eat 2 or more bunches of it each week just by myself. Mainly I just cut up up or lately ripping off the ends. Saw this on some kid's show where the kids were too young to use a knife. It's also good stuffed with nut butter or the nacho cheese that has been only partially dehydrated.

Wow... all I can say is I'm glad I like everything. It sure makes eating easier.
I don't know what to tell you except maybe as you eat raw foods, your taste buds might begin to wake up and like it.
::shrug:: I'm stumped.:o

Oh I LOVE raw food. The only thing I can figure is that I've eaten raw veggies and salad all my life and in large quantities. My dinner for many years now has been a big salad. So I guess I'm just already used to these things and I eat them because I like them. I guess I just get swayed by the pictures of the raw desserts and such and that makes me want to make them. But perhaps if I sat down and thought about it first I would realize I probably wouldn't like it. I used to make a lot of cakes. I love to decorate them. But I never liked to eat them. Could be the same with raw recipes.

Do you have any local raw friends that you could get together with for a pot luck a couple times a month to get your fancy schmancy recipe fix? Or could you just go out to a raw resteraunt when you want something like pizza or enchiladas?

Don't have any raw friends around here and the closest raw restaurant is in Seattle. Not likely I'll go there. My parents went there once. There's no parking and I'm disabled. Plus with my food allergies I think it would be difficult to eat there. Actually raw pizza or enchiladas don't really sound appealing to me. I know the raw stuff doesn't necessarily taste like the SAD stuff but I've never been a fan of pizza. I used to like enchiladas but only a couple of kinds.
I guess I am mainly annoyed at the fact that I go wild when I see a recipe or a pic and then fix the stuff and maybe like it once but then can't seem to get into it again. Maybe I'm just not into that style of eating. I didn't really eat that kind of stuff prior to deciding to do a raw diet so I guess I just might not like it now either.
