I need help! I read Ann's book about wheatgrass and now I want to grow me. I was discouraged when she mentioned the part of adding dirt because I have such a brown thumb! I can't grow anything. There is a machine online that says you can grow wheatgrass without soil. Is this ok? Does anyone have one? If they do were they pleased with it? Is there an easy way to growing wheatgrass and what are the best and least expensive machines out there to grow this stuff??

i guarantee this easy and cheap method .
get cheap platsic dish pans dark in color to camo dirt smudges in order to make them look better sitting in your house .
fill them with say 4 inches of soil preferably from a garden with rich soil as opposed to bag top soil .
buy your wheat seeds at a bulk store , people say use soft wheat but ive also grown hard and they both worked .
sprinkle seeds about one per square quarter inch .
cover with a quarter inch of soil .
water heavy .
water every other day heavy .
in about a week the blades shall be around 5 inches .
use cheap heavy utility scissors to cut grass off just above dirt .
if dont have juicer cut blades into half inch long bits right into a blender half full of water and blend on high for a minute .
let sit say 10 minutes to allow nutrients to seep out of grass and into water .
then strain for your wheat grass water .
DONT WORRY IF YOUVE HAD DIFFICULTY GROWING THINGS BECAUSE WHEAT IS THEE MOST VIGOROUS SEED IVE EVER SEEN GROW , YOULL BE AMAZED AT THE AMOUNT OF ROOTS IN THE BOTTOM OF THE DISH PAN WHEN YOU EMPTY IT OUT TO REFILL WITH SOIL .
i guarantee this method , please dont waste your money on a machine :)

I posted this on a previous thread:
here is the BEST sprouter (mho). I have two of these and love them:

I buy my red winter wheat (hard) from www.sproutpeople.com
I would suggest checking this book out from the library to learn all there is to know about wheatgrass. The Wheatgrass Book by Ann Wigmore.
I use this hand-crank juicer.

I've got wheat berries soaking and hoping in a few days it goes into a soil tray for wheatgrass. Tune in as I am anxious to see the results. Anyone adding the sprouted wheatgrass into smoothies?
Or, how are you using the "grass" once it is done?
I plan on using a garden plot for growing wheatgrass when spring/summer arrives.

What works for me, but not for everyone is drinking the wheatgrass straightup on an empty stomach. Seems as though is enters into your body quicker this way. Others do add it to smoothies. Now this is nuts, but in a pinch I've gotten the frozen and haven't had time to thaw it and crunch my wheatgrass ice. I love the taste of it! It's awesome, good stuff.
This summer one of my mini Dachshunds got bitten by something outside, a spider, or something. She was eating grass like never before. Just grabbing mouthfulls of it and chomping. Then she became lethargic. I had just read about a vet giving a dog a wheatgrass enema. Well, I wasn't about to do that, but I did get a dropper and gave her about five or so dropper fulls of wheatgrass and within a half an hour she was perking up and feeling better.
You figure - it is part of life itself.
Sun, air, grass...it's pretty much what the Earth is covered with, right?
