I am currently not raw but plan on buying Alissa's book and giving it a try. I see alot of scrumptious desserts posted here and I have to say my weakness is desserts! I am curious - can you lose weight and still eat all the desserts I see posted? Do you limit your dessert intake?

I am currently on the Eat to Live plan and have lost 20 lbs out of 75lbs I want to lose but am losing my taste for cooked foods. The plan I am on is 1lb raw veggies per day and 1lb cooked veggies (which im not eating) and at least 1 cup cooked beans per day,at least 4 fruits, 1oz nuts, 1tbs flaxseed etc. I am trying to lose weight along with having better health.

Thanks!

I have not limited anything while raw and I've dropped about 40 pounds in about 9 months. None of my tastes have been denied. It's up to you.
You should get Alissa's book. She is amazing. IT is amazing!
I suggest once you get her book? Do the 30-day challenge. And no cheating. Then see how much weight you've lost and how wonderful you feel.

:D I'm fairly new at this but I can tell you that the "desserts" are my mainstay right now. One thing you have to remember with this is that the desserts aren't really in a "class" by themselves. They are just the same foods we eat all of the time prepared in different ways. Instead of eating an apple and some dates and a handful of nuts we are combining them and making it a "dessert". In the SAD way of life "dessert" is an extra "special" fatty, high calorie "treat" that you can have ~ raw food, it's just part of what we (I) eat. My food yesterday was 1. banana, carob, and fresh mint all whipped up into a pudding. 2. Ice cream - frozen banana, strawberries, and peaches put through my Champion with the blank screen and a squirt of Agave nectar 3. 2 of the "Fudge Balls" in Alissa's book 4. Green smoothie - banana, handful of spinach, peeled cucumber ~ yummy! and then later that night I had some mock tuna on a salad of greens. So, basically, I had "dessert" 4 times yesterday! :D I've been doing this about 2 weeks now, I've only weighed once but on that day I had lost 3# already and I'm sure it's more now and I go through the day NOT hungry. I don't eat like that every day cuz some days I'm just not that hungry but yes, you can eat your "dessert" and lose weight and there are SO MANY more positives with this way of eating and you will discover them on your journey. Welcome! :D

I have a very active sweet tooth.
This morning I had apple crisp for breakfast.
There are weeks that I live on cheesecake for breakfast.

I think my body is craving whatever is in these fruits and nuts and I just go with the flow....when I want savory or salty, I know it.

I do TRY to eat more greens because I know they're good for me.
The only thing I haven't been able to digest well thus far is cauliflower... it just gives me a tummy ache...

Eat what you want as long as it is raw.
If you're trying to lose weight, you can try to back off the nuts, but I don't worry about it.

I used to go crazy over all the desserts, but I stopped because they were too dense, rich and expensive. They also tend to kick up cravings for cooked food.

To each her own.

I did have to limit certain foods, just like in any other diet. I limit anything made with nuts or high fat veggies. Fat is still fat. I had gained 6 pounds the first two weeks to do over endulgence. Now that I am being moderate, I have lost 16.

I think it is customary to eat like that more in the beginning for most. You are replacing the denseness and fullness from breads and cooked starches with high fat raw food. Once you are used to feeling lighter the need to use desserts is more occassional if none at all.

Totally agree.

In the beginning, I ate dates and walnuts like crazy! Then I realized I was not getting enough greens and naturally balanced to where I wasn't craving sweet like it was the end of the world.

After six months of 100% raw, I could barely stomach a bite of raw cracker. My salivary glands immediately was shunned by the lack of water content. Raw treat was probably once a month if at all. I was completely satisfied with 1/2 cantaloupe for breakfast, 4-6 grapefruits for lunch and 1/2 head of iceberg lettuce.

Thanks so much for the insight! I don't know if I would be able to afford to eat the desserts daily after looking up the cost of some of the ingredients but I could treat myself like once a week with a yummy raw chocolate type treat :)

Right now I live on blended smoothies as my sweet treat and I could easily omit the soymilk from them to make them raw. The only other "cooked" foods I eat are beans.

I will buy her book probably within the month and really get into it :)

Yay, another Eat To Live-er! You should find that eating raw goes along nicely with the priciples in the Eat to Live plan. Personally I do my own kind of 'blend' of the two. I aim for as much green as I can get every day; I'm not sure if I get a full two pounds but I get a lot. I don't have dessert every day, but I think that if you are not trading greens for desserts there is no harm in having something sweet every day.

Veganforlife -
I made a cheesecake ish dessert out of almond pulp, cocoa, dates, raisens, banana, coconut cream and orange juice. then a layer of fudge (raisens and cocoa) then a layer of "cream cheese". THEN I swirled a mixture of honey and cocoa on top (which, to me, tastes just like sundae fudge).I put it in a glass container and let sit in the freezer for about 12 hours. Oh... It is SO good! I was just foolin' around and wanted to see what I came up with on my own and my oh my!
Can't wait until I get my digital camera to post - caus it was pretty too!
