a woman I work with who is very into natural health came over to me yesterday to tell me this new thing she's doing... eating 1 tablespoon of coconut oil before every meal.

she says in the last few days she's lost 3 pounds and hasn't been doing anything different besides this... now I know from reading the board here people have had similar results...

what I'm wondering is.. if I mix my coconut oil with a little agave to sweeten it before I take a teaspoon of it, will that cause me to have different results?

I just can't eat a spoonful plain like that....

the woman I work with doesn't either.. she mixes it in with hot tea and drinks it.

just curious if anyone has researched this coconut oil thing more and knows if taking it in different ways or mixing it with stuff will cause effects that are not as great.

thanks!

Here's a couple links about coconut oil. You've got to remember too, every BODY is different and every BODY reacts differently to things. I get very nauseated when taking coconut oil straight like that.

I've found that I can tolerate the "oil" better than the "butter" ... in that I warm the butter to make it liquid.

What I also, accidently, found was that if I take some honey (which I was doing for a cold) and then use that same spoon for the coconut oil there was still some honey on the spoon which helped.

Doesn't seem to matter how you take it so long as you do. Some of what I put it in is not raw so I won't give specifics on that here. But if I find I haven't eaten enough of it in a day I will just eat some on a piece of cracker, slice of apple, etc. I can't imagine trying to mix it with agave. But then I'm not overly fond of agave ot other sweet foods.

How many tabelspoons a day should one be aiming to have when it comes to coconut butter or oil? Interesting thread by the way ;)
