my x is telling me what an idiot I am for going raw.. Telling me how I won't get my protiene and calcium and blah blah blah. I just told him to quit talking to me.......How i'm being dangerous etc etc. I told him I'm quite capable of reading on my own and that I will let my body make up it's mind whether or not I need meat and after 30 days if I feel that I need it again I will buy a little bit of it. Then he told me I'm going against the Bible (I'm Christian) for not eating meat. Meat today wasn't the same meat 2000 years ago. Meat today is completely perverted with chemicals. Any ways I just needed to rant..

Thankfully, my ex-husband looks at me with admiration and only a slight glimmer of "you're a nut" attitude, but I have mentioned raw to my dad, who I am really close to and he is a real meat and potatoes kind of guy and he called me a hippy. I dont know, to each his own, right??? I just had an idea, if you go to fit day online and put in what you eat on an average day you will find that your protein intake is totally sufficient and whats great is it is plant derived. Print it out and show him the cold hard truth. :)

Get him a copy of "Why Christians Get Sick" and "The China Study" for Valentines Day (or just for a gift).

Education is the best defense.

He's just concerned, and uninformed. I am sure he means well.

(I am Christian, like you. Not everyone here is, of course, so anyone reading should understand that my post is coming from my own belief system. I don't mean to state as fact things that may not jive with someone else's beliefs. But, they ARE my facts, if you know what I mean....just want to clarify and not offend.)

I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Don't take it personally, he's just being some weird mix of concerned, arrogant, and ignorant.

First, Tell him to stop using the Bible to insult you.
It's stupid and mean.

Second, God doesn't care what we eat, He cares what is in our hearts. We have "permission" to do whatever the heck we want with our bodies. But it's nice to honor God by taking care of the wonderous machine we've been given, though, at least I think so.

Then, God gave us a wonderful buffet of pure, healthy foods in the Garden of Eden and we'd never have eaten meat in the first place if we hadn't screwed up the paradise He gave us. We eat meat now only because we were too stubborn and selfish to follow the plan that God originally intended for us.

And, against the Bible because of not eating meat? Tell that to Daniel. He refused to "defile his body" with rich, fatty foods and ate only fruits and vegetables. He was the one chosen to most clearly prophesy the coming of Jesus Christ. Obviously God didn't mind his eating habits.

I don't think you need to say anything to naysayers. Your health will be very visible to people. That will be proof enough. :)

Oh and don't forget about Genesis 1:29. Our original diet. I believe meat was introduced out of necessity for surivial, not longevity or quality of life. Notice how lives weren't lived so long after meat and grains were being consumed.

You may not want to do this, but if he really believes in eating like they did in the Bible, he should not be eating pork, cheeseburgers, any seafood without fins and scales, fried or processed foods, etc. Does he really want to follow the clean laws to the T, or is he just trying to use the Bible to back up his way about eating meat?

I have calmly suggested to those who challenge me Biblically, that maybe they themselves should be eating just as they did in the Bible, clean meats, etc. and that usually stops the conversation.

Thanks, he knows it irritates me when he thinks he can use God against me.. He's a Christian also which makes no sense. I feel such a peace about this way of eating and that kind of peace doesn't come from myself. oh and that was a great site for tracking intake.

Firstly - (((HUGS))) You are NOT an idiot!

Secondly - If he is your "Ex" then why is he so involved in such intimate details of your life as to what you eat on a daily basis? He has no place anymore since you two aren't together anymore - forgive me if I'm overstepping my boundaries by stating that - it was just one of the first things that came to mind. :o

Thirdly - You are not sinning for not eating meat - I think I know what he's referring to, though...but that talks about commanding others to abstain from meat (I Tim. 4) but have him also read I Cor. 8:8-13

Fourthly (is that a word?) - You CAN get protein, calcium without meat.

I was just about to post to ask that, Rawkinlocs.

Why are you even stil talking to your ex? Especially when he's so obviously poisonous to your self-esteem?

The good thing about him is that he is your ex! No one needs that kind of negativity.

The issue with eating meat in New Testament times was that the meat in a meat market may have been sacrificed to a foreign god. Not the same as the issues today: mad cow disease, deforestation, antibiotics, crowded animals, etc.

Pierre -

The meat people eat today was definitely sacrificed to a foreign god.
The god of money!

Peace and blessings to you Aenea,

I have been a Vegetarian/Vegan for over17 years (working on the raw thing now :) . When I first decided I was not going to eat the standard American diet any more I received a lot of negative feed back from almost everyone I knew at the time. I was laughed at, called stupid and was even told it was just a fad and that I would come to me senses one day. Well all of those who opposed what I was doing have either come on board with eating healthier or are still stuck in the same daily cycle of getting sick every month or so, and struggling with the health constantly. The point I’m trying to get to is if it feels good to your soul and you are seeing the physical results you are striving for it really doesn’t matter with the uneducated nay-sayers have to say. Remember it’s your body and your choice.

(HUGS) Well, the good thing is..he's your EX! :-) You really don't have to listen to him! But there is nothing against God or the Bible to be found in being veg. There are strong traditions within the faith for vegetarian & veganism, and unless I'm mistaken, there is a Catholic monastic order who are raw vegan.

Well we still talk trying to be friends we haven't been broken up that long, but I told him if he wants to be in my life that he will listen to what i say about it he doesn't have to agree but i don't want his opinion just support, but it probably won't happen. Thanks for all your support, he's the first one thats really been against me, my mom and dad and brothers think it's great my sister is iffy but still supporative my mom even wants to be semi-raw with me. He started going off on creatine and i told him about the amino acid and it has been proven that vegetarians do not suffer from creatine depletion and what not.. He won't listen he thinks it's going to damage my internal organs for some reason.. HE was talking about his vegetarian friends and I said they probably weren't being very balanced in what they were eating PLUS i seriously doubt he knew any RAW foodist which makes all the difference.

Thank you all so much I really appreciated it :) You all have such sweet spirits just shows me you're happier with your lives.
