Help...I am craving meat so bad. I can barely stand it. I love the raw foods I am eating, but it is not satisfying my craving. What do you do when this happens? Help, Help, Help....throw me a life jacket and save me from drowning back into the sad!!! Please!

Nutty nut nuts. Soaked, seasoned and dehydrated.
Or portabellos, marinated and dehydrated till warm.
There's a wonderful recipe on this board for a mushroom nut loaf thing that is frighteningly meat-like and filling.

Greens are good to halt about any craving, too.
I'm not sure why, but I think it gives your body something to keep busy with nutritionally so you don't think about what you were craving before.

Alissa mentions that a craving for meat is actually a craving for fats. So, as Svadhyaya already said, nuts and more nuts! :) Also, flax seeds or avocados. There's a "bean dip" in the recipe section.

I agree with Svadhyaya, nut loaves are really great and if you like mushrooms, they are very satisfying. There are some really great recipes out there for tummy-filling foods. I don't ever crave meat, but sometimes I just need my meal to make me "feel" full.

The above suggestions are great. Mushrooms and nuts are always good ideas. But remember: If you are struggling....then you need to be honest with yourself. Cut back to an over-all percentage of raw that YOU are VERY comfortable with....and stretch from there.

-Don't hold yourself to some guru's idea of raw....or even what your brain is telling you that you 'should' be at. Be HONEST with YOUR level and stretch from there. You'll be much happier. Just my opinion.

Watch that PETA video and you'll never want meat again! I just watched it yesterday and last night I had a dream I ate beef without thinking about how gross and wrong it was and started freaking out when I remembered the video (all in my dream) and woke up sick to my stomach! Powerful video - although I hate that it is some lame actor narrorating it...
Why does everything have to be related to Hollywood?

I agree with you there! I stopped eating meat before I ever saw the way animals are treated before they are slaughtered, but it definitely reinforced my feeling about why I stopped contributing to what I consider to be torture of animals.

And I have wondered about the Hollywood thing too!

i agree so much about the lame actor narration in this vid , plus on tv .

im so sick of the fake deep dramatic voices oozing out of the tv and hollywood i could vomit .

lets burn hollywood down and throw all the vampires that run it into the fire :) , yes that would cause me to have a very nice day !

then we'll get some actual human beings expressing themselves on the tv whom we can learn from as opposed to being sickend by as we are now . thats the game plan .

heres the link = www.meat.org . be prepared because its sickening

Just remember this is detox. Your body is not screaming for any specific nutrients, you are just craving.

The absolute best thing to do for your body right now is eat a bunch of fresh fruit until you are full. Pineapple is wonderful, sweet and filling. Or try some dates, they've squealched my cravings before.

Good luck!

Hijacking the thread....

I mostly agree with Hollywood Bigshots being thrown into important causes, but.....I love, love, love Juaquin (sp?) Phoenix's narration for the film Earthlings. He has a lovely voice and he has been dedicated to animal rights his whole life - even before Hollywood. I can't think of a better choice as a narrator for this film.

PLEASE, if you are sensitive like I am, DO NOT watch that video.

I won't say more, because I would offend people. But I will say that much, whatever you do, if you feel deep empathy, do NOT watch any PETA videos.

I agree, there's no need to watch something that disturbing. I already know that animals are mistreated, maybe some need to see it for themselves, but if your sensitive, you could skip it.

I couldn't even watch The Passion.

I had to watch Earthlings in 5 minute increments. It was powerful and telling, but very, very hard to watch. I cannot really recommend it or the PETA videos without warning people first.

However, these can be helpful tools for getting people's heads out of the sand. They have caused alot of people to "really see" what goes on in the meat and dairy industry.

I have been trying to talk to my sister about raw. She craves raw meat. I just cannot relate. I have never liked raw meat - it always smelled rotten to me. I have never been much on meat period. I have a tendency to want to look for the nutrients that might be in an item that I am craving and see if I can find the same nutrient in raw food. Just another way of looking at it.

Meat stays in you body for 3 days before it makes its exit and it gets bound in your intestines. You feel slow, sluggish and like going to sleep and never waking up. It is very hard to digest. Eat almond balls or some nuts to satisfy your craving. Your body will love you for it.

I like warmed portabella mushrooms. Sometimes with a little bit of a pesto sauce. The slighty watery, chewy taste of the mushroom satisfies that craving for me at least.

I find that sprouted lentils have a "meaty" texture and flavor, as well as all the great suggestions already posted.

Oh my goodness. I never ran into that before. I grew up on a farm where we butchered our own meats and it was not done like that. I guess when it comes to mass production it is really different. I bought some chickens last fall which were Kosher killed. I really was not fond of it as they kill them in a humanly way but u get to much redness around the bones due to not bleeding right. If they mishandle the animals before dying they bleed out better. YUK.
So anyway....even though I had grew up with slaughtering I could not watch very much of it. As i have gotten older I am having a hard time with any animal being abused for any reason. I just started raw 3 days ago. I mean cold turkey. I was kind of doing it before.
Makes me sad to think I dipped my finger in some pork chop grease yesterday to get rid of my craving for the chops i had just made for my son. Guess I did not go cold turkey if i dipped my finger in grease. Not again.

I am sensitive also but I watched the video. I have to say that is was very eye opening to me as I had no idea that this kind of thing went on. I guess I was just unaware and naive. I think for people who are coming from a sad diet need to see it. Before seeing the video I had no idea where most vegetarians were coming from as I had no conviction what so ever to eating meat. Although it is terrible watching the animals suffer, it was also eye opening to me as to why we have so much disease like cancer running rampant in our society, are so overweight and larger as a society (from the hormones injected in these animals), etc.

So seriously I would suggest you watch the video if you were clueless like me - because until you see it for yourself, it isn't real. Seeing it has truely caused me to rethink the whole issue and I could have never had the same impact just from hearing about it.

Hello there,

Try the pesto stuffed mushrooms. Those are very rich and satisfying.

Remember that a craving is just a temporary feeling of discomfort. You can withstand it. Have faith in yourself! You can do this. You can make the choice to achieve your health goals. You have the choice to not give in to your craving.

You might want to arm yourself with some more information about why eating meat and dairy is so harmful. I would suggest reading "The China Study" by Colin Campbell. It is awesome. There is also a great dvd out called "Eating" that discusses exactly why meat eating is bad. It is very motivating because it shows you exactly what meat does to the body. You can purchase it at www.ravediet.com.

Congratulations on going raw! Stick with it and you will LOVE the results!!

Wishing you all the best,

Audrey

I just watched 1/3 of Earthlings and I just can't watch anymore... :(
I feel as if I've been so insensitive. I just wish I would have realised earlier. I want my parents to watch the Meet your Meat video. Earthlings is a little bit long and emotionally trying to watch. Good though. A real eye opener.
I want to start a dog and cat reguge! Man.. I wish I could... seing that dog thrown into the garbage truck :( :( :(   People are so awful.

Still craving meat?!

By the way - I've always like Juaquin Pheionix. He is in hollywood and a part of it. But he's subtle. Unlike others ex) Alex Baldwin. And - he is very very handsome... awwww if only

I watched the video and OMgoodnes...I had no idea either. It is unbelievable. The thought that some of those animals are so sick and still slaughtered, and the way they are treated....made me sick to my stomach. It was definately eye opening to say the least. Thanks for the link. I don't think I could watch it again though. Once did the trick for me.

Thank you everyone for all the helpful advice. I made the pesto today and it was scrumptious. I will try it with mushrooms. Sounds wonderful.

I still have not been able to get through the whole thing. I haven't been able to make it beyond the 'kosher' slaugterhouse. It's so disturbing. I don't eat meat anyway but if I did, I would stop.
I think Alec Baldwin is the narrator for the Peta video and he is also a long time vegetarian and animal activist.
