I see that people use oat flour in their creations. Are rolled oats raw?

I'm not sure about all rolled oats but I do know that mine are raw. I buy organic oat groats in bulk and then we have an oat roller. Ya just roll the oat groats through and walah, rolled oats. ;) When I want something warm I heat my water to around 105 degrees and pour it over my rolled oats, add some bananas and a sprinkle of cinnamon, a little raw honey and mmmmm.... :)

I have a bunch of Roman Meal cereal, and asked if it was raw. This is the answer I got, in case anyone is interested:

This is the information I received from the Roman Meal Quality Control Director....

The current, canister Original with Oats contains defatted flax at a relatively low level. As part of the defatting process, the flax is combined with water and heated in excess of 200 degrees F. The fat can then be removed without resorting to harsh solvents. Again, this heat is only directed to a very small percentage of the material in the Original with Oats.

When the Hot Cereal line is launched in the next few months in the single serve packets, the Original with Oats will contain whole ground, full fat flax. This flax product is not defatted and therefore is not subject to any heat above 115 degrees F during processing . The whole ground flax contains the full amount of beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids that nutritionists tell us we need to consume. Whole ground flax that maintains shelf stability (will not turn rancid) is a relatively recent development. When the canister version of Original with Oats was placed on the market years ago, the only way to insure shelf stability with ground flax was to use a defatted version. Recent technology makes the use of a whole ground, full fat flax possible.

I hope that this is not too much information.

Sincerely,

Paige Swansby
