So I bought a durian last night. Just tried it. It is the oddest thing I've ever tasted in my life. Made me a little giddy, like young coconuts do. It tastes like vanilla onion custard. I can't say I love it, but I definitely don't dislike it. I think it's an acquired taste, and it's very rich and filling; I could only eat one pod! Luckily, it didn't smell bad. :)

LOL, it was good for me. A little awkward, a little painful (the spines!), and a little messy.
I got it at a local Asian market where I buy my young coconuts. All in all, it's a fruit that I may get on occasion, but not something I want to eat every week.

Congrats. Did you have the luscious chance to try to a fresh one or was it frozen?

I noticed you're from MD. I live way up north, near PA. What Asian market? The only one in my area that I went to, the gal had never heard of it! :(
So...after you ate it, did you want a cigarette?
JUST KIDDING!!!

My durian flower was plucked a couple of weeks ago and it was a terrible experience. I guess it didn't taste too terrible, but the stink was so ferocious that I couldn't enjoy the fruit without gagging. Plus, it was too slimy. Yuck! My house smelled like that darn thing for days.
I will never buy another one. It was awful!

It was fresh durian, and I got it at the Han Ah Rheum market. Vegan for Life, it's on the corner of Route 40 and Rolling Rd. That's where I get all my 99 cent young coconuts, too!
Luckily, this one didn't stink. But the taste is really weird, and my tummy wasn't so happy with it this morning. I think it may be a little rich. Still, it fascinates me.
