I need to introduce myself. I am a 38 year old female, and decided to go raw four weeks ago after first hearing about being raw. It sounded so right to me that I immediately jumped in and started eating raw..and have been learning along the way.
I have never been on any other "diet" where I have felt so satisfied and had so few cravings.
After four weeks:
I have lost 10 pounds.
I no longer have arthritis pain in my fingers.
I no longer have that "mystery pain" in my abdomen that was really starting to frighten me.
I feel lighter.
I feel more alive.
I have found I really enjoy outdoor exercise.
I have lost my cravings for sugar and other junk food.
My skin looks more youthful and clear.
I'm sure that as soon as I post this I will think of another half dozen things to add to this.
Oh, and another thing I would like to add. My eight year old daughter is doing this with me. She has always been a little overweight. She has been doing this for 3 weeks now and has lost over two inches from around her waist. She enjoys eating this way and is very self-motivated. I think it is because this is very satisfying to the body to eat this way.
Anyway, I'm glad to be here...and for all I have already learned from you.
Thanks!!

That's an amazing success story. What I love best about the raw-food diet is that, unlike a lot of conventional diets, this is a lifestyle, and you don't go back to your old ways because this is so much better! I bet you look and feel great :D
By the way, what have you been preparing for yourselves to eat? I'm only new to this, and I don't know whether I should go all the way and buy a food processor, blender/liquidizer etc. or stick with the basics. I already got a masticating juicer and a sprouting tray, since they seemed to be invaluable. How have you been doing things? Since you seem to have had so much success, I thought you'd know best! :)
I 've been part-raw for a long time, and I couldn't help but notice that I felt best when I didn't eat bread or other cooked things that aren't necessarily considered 'unhealthy', but we're clearly better off without. On January 31st, I decided to make a 2nd New Year's Resolution, and I went 100% raw for 7 days. Now, following Shazzie's 'Detox Your World' book, I've decided to do a 7-day water fast, which is going fine so far, but it's only early days. Against the advice in the book ('take it easy'), I'm going to a gig tonight, where it'll be hot, and noisy and the alcohol will flow freely. I hope I don't collapse and get put down as a binge-drinker, since I obviously won't be drinking at all. Silly me.
Please tell me the secret to your success! For example, what's a typical daily 'meal'-plan for you? How do you manage to fit that into your life's schedule?
Congratulations,
Love, Helen x

Thank you for the very warm welcome, Aprsaraw, spicyfull, and autruche.
This site has already been a big help to me as I have had to try to learn fast what it is that I need to do.
Autruche, I have been doing things pretty simple so far. A typical day has me starting off with a green smoothie for breakfast (I blend together spring mix and celery with whatever fruit I have or am in the mood for) My daughter drinks it--and so do some of my other kids--I have five). If I need a snack I munch on organic raisins. For lunch I eat a big salad of spring mix topped with sprouted quinoa, sunflower seeds and sesame seeds. For a dressing, I have decided my favorite is just plain ol' avacado bended up and mixed in the salad.
For my daughter's lunch I just pack a variety of fruits and veggies (grapes, carrrot sticks, pears, snow peas, etc--I try to give her different things every day.) ...and so far she has not had a single complaint.
After school, my daughter comes home and peels herself a cucumber and eats it whole. Or she will eat carrot sticks dipped in mashed avacado (that's one of my favorite snacks, too).
For dinner we will often just make up another big fruit smoothie.
I have been feeding the rest of the family things like stir fried veggies and brown rice, so occassionally my daughter will have a small bowl of plain brown rice. When we first started I told her I would not force anything on her--that I would help guide her, but she would be free to choose.
She has surprised me by being more committed than I ever imagined. She has really made me proud.

Thanks aubrey.
And I just wanted to say that I finally ordered Alissa's book and DVD. Now that I have done this for a full month, I know that I am truly committed and that I will get all my money's worth out of them and then some. I also ordered a few of the food items that I can seem to get in my small town.
I can't say how excited I am to get them!
