Oy.
So I bought some Sesame Oil, and a bag of Sesame seeds.
Well, dumb me, I didn't buy Hulled Sesame seeds, so I ended up with a darker and more bitter end result -_-
I just want it to taste like the Maranatha Brand that I bought, then found that it probably wasn't raw.

I heard that RawPriestess makes her own Tahini, so if you could give me some tips that'd be fan-diddly-tastic!

I just grind sesame seeds and add it to any recipe that calls for tahini, I don't add any oil. The ground seeds will end up being more than the whole seeds so you want to measure after they are ground. You can grind them in a coffee grinder or a vitamix/k tec blender... other blenders may work too, try it out.

Well, I like dipping apples in Tahini, so I actually want the butter :)

I don't think sesame oil is raw. It's about as raw as the "raw tahini" that is in jars, which is the reason you want to grind your own sesame seeds to begin with. :D

Best of luck to you. I grind my sesame seeds as is in the mini-processor, but I have never made actual tahini.

You actually can get raw tahini in jars from reliable sources, like Dave Wolfe's, Living Foods Community, etc.

I'm all about saving money though :)
I like to be self-sufficient, and not have to rely on ordering from outside sources :-\

For spreads & such, soaked sesame seeds blended with a bit of water to desired consistency works well. I've never purchased raw tahini, as it doesn't work in my budget. Therefore, I don't know what it tastes like. I do know that homemade tahini tastes exactly like what it is, blended sesame seeds and water; nothing like the cooked tahini tasted. I've acquired a taste for it and like it very much.
