Hey everyone! My name is Daphne and I'm 20 years old...I've been a vegan for....I don't even remember how long but possibly up to 3 years now? Anyhoo I'm on my very first day raw and looking forward to becoming the healthiest I can be and losing some excess weight would also be nice...

My one question is about nuts/oils etc....I love experimenting with all the raw dessert recipes, and I love even more that according to Alissa Cohen (I have her book) it's okay to eat whatever you want so long as it's raw....I just VERY much want to lose about 20 pounds (I weigh 133 and would prefer to weight 115 or so....I'm 5'6 in height)

I'm having trouble accepting that I can eat raw cashew butter and avocados and all that yummy stuff and STILL lose weight?!? Is this absolutely true? I'd love if some people who have lost weight whilst eating the raw diet could tell me about their experience(s) regarding higher calorie raw foods?

Thanks for your support! Hoping to become a supreme raw being soon hehe.

Welcome! I haven't been here too long myself. I lost 2 lbs/week for the first 5 weeks I ate raw. This week I only lost .6 lbs, so maybe my weight loss is slowing down a bit. I ate everything, though, that first 5 weeks and lost at a pretty good clip. I'm going to start now to pay a little more attention to oils and nuts, as I'd like to lose about 10 more lbs. Alissa says to absolutely don't worry about anything but eating raw for the first month. That's what I did, and it certainly worked for me. She also warns firmly about the bad news of getting into a "cutting down this and that" for the first month. Your body probably has lots to figure out since you're changing gears on it, so eat RAW and enjoy the ride!!! I'll be interested to see how you do. ;)

Welcome to raw!

I eat lots of olives, various amounts of nuts, and in summer about an avocado a day, and I've lost about 16 kg so far. I've heard at least two explanations why you can lose weight by eating raw fat:
1. You're eating lipase, which digests your stored fat as well as the fat you eat.
2. You replace old fat which has toxins stored in it with new raw fat. Not storing toxins, you don't need as much fat.

Hi Daphne...one of my favourite names! (and my fave Botticelli sculpture)

SO happy you started!

Don't worry about nuts and avos in the beginning. Sometimes a day for me is 50% fat! YOu'll still lose...as you go on, your body may taper off a bit on the fats but eat what raw foods your body is asking for. Enjoy making dessert!

Hellooooo. Welcome. I'm new to the board, pretty new to raw as well.

I've been eating a lot of coconut, avocado, etc... I will let you know as soon as I jump on the scale! I am doing this for health reasons mostly and not to just lose weight... but I have 5-10 lbs I could shed. I'm the same as you. Around 130 and I want to be 120 (but not necessarily because I'll build up more tone!) and I'm 5'5"/5'6" too...

I did a 7-day juice fast in mid-December and lost some weight there. I went raw afterwards, then high raw because of a 3-week stomach flu, now I have been 100% for 11 days! I feel awesome. I keep hearing great results from people who haven't seen me in a few weeks+....that I look healthier and thinner. I have a lot more energy too. Especially as soon as I eat a lot of greens, or kombucha tea, or goji berries..

I think it's good to eat what you want to transition and you can eventually learn even healthier ways around it. But if you want to eat raw cacao, then do it up.

I enjoy having coconut chocolate goji fudge from awesomefoods.com from time to time. :)

Where do you live in this world?
