How are you injesting it? I only use it in Recipe but if you are allergic to something it will give you some sign.

coconut oil helps hair grow?
I don't think it makes new hair grow. But according to the book I have, it is the only thing that affects the protein inside the hair. I put it on the ends of my hair and let it soak in while I take a bath then shampoo it out. Makes my hair really shiny.

It could also be the brand. I've tried some coconut oils that were absolutely HORRIBLE even in recipes. But there are two brands that I like, Virgin De Coco (something like that - the one sold on Alissa's site) and Omega Nutrition Extra Virgin (in a black container sold in many heath/wholefood stores).
When I eat either of those, just a little...not too much, in my "raw" oatmeal with a dash or two of sea salt, tastes just like butter to me! I think the key is to not use too much of it because unless you really love coconut, it can be overpowering.

I don't like the taste or smell very much. Sadly I don't have a virgin one, but I'm still gonna use this one up until I get one that is, so maybe this one is stronger smelling.
I usually hide the taste of it by putting a little in a smoothy.

It seems to go bad really fast. Last time I used some, I almost gagged, it tasted stale.
So I think I'll vote on the "no thanks" side of things. Because I'm not positive if it always tastes like that, or if it really was stale.
I eat it by the spoonful sometimes. I like it.

I only like about a tablespoon of it in a 2 glass smoothie, but I really like it as a moisturizer on my face after showering (my skin is on the dry side)

Have you tried making angel-hair pasta from zucchini and adding coconut oil, nutritional yeats, garlic and onion powder, Nama Shoyu, and whatever else? It is so good and doesn't taste ver coconutty.
How interesting that you all put it in your hair. I tried that a few times last month, and it did wonders for my dry curls.

I like coconut oil in small amounts in things. But too large of a quantity and it actually makes me feel nauseous. Not cool.

I really think it varies from brand to brand. I love Nutiva. Have tried two other brands. One was just okay. Didn't care for the other one at all. It didn't taste bad. Just didn't have any flavor to me.

If your coconut oil is "going bad" chances are it is not raw organic coconut oil. Coconut oil keeps much longer than other oils and rarely goes "off" - if it is solid, not liquid, it's cool enough. Sounds to me like either you just don't care for the taste, or the particular brand you're buying is not good.
Have you tried the oil Alissa sells? I have used Jungle brand and Omega's brand and I love them both. I've kept jars for months not refrigerated and they never go rancid.

I've had the same jar for over 5 years, and I've used it on my hair, that's it, I don't care for slimy greesy things in my foods, I use Extra virgin olive oil and cacao butter occasionally in foods, but I don't care for coconut oil/butter, I've tried several brands.
I have it in my sauna and use it on my hair now, haven't hardly touched it, with as much as I put on my hair, you'd think it would be gone by now, only about 1 inch used up in the last year or so. LOL
it's like the never ending porrage pot, I suppose.

I use coconut oil whenever I cook, but so far have not used it for anything raw. For raw stuff I'll use olive or flax oil. Then again, I'm not raw. Not yet. I still feel like a babe in the woods when it comes to the raw diet.

I don't get sick from eating coconut oil but I don't like using much oil so that is why I don't really like it. I am wanting to stop even using olive oil so I won't have very tasty salads in the near future unless I make a raw dressing with something else and there goes my hummus :o

I just bought a jar of coconut oil and used some in my smoothie and white things floated to the top of my glass. It looked gross but I heard so much about coconut oil I figured I would try it. It almost made me gag! I dont know what I did wrong but YUCK!! But the jar cost me like $14 so I wont throw it away.
What can I use it for now? Let me know!

Sounds like you did not melt it first. lol This is how I put it in my smoothie (but ofcourse I am a raw cocao fanatic) I put raw cocao powder, mixed w/melted coconut oil in a bowl and blend.. then I mix it w/agave nector and put that in my green smoothie. That way I have a chocolate smoothie and I am still getting my coconut oil for my skin!

singing the praises of coconut oil at the top of my lungs:
I try to ingest at least 2 tbs a day, it helps with candida, and so many other things that ail. i put it in tons of recipes, even when it's not called for and i coat my body with it right out of the bath. i put it on my face several times a day and on my hands with gloves before bed. i try at least once a month to put it in my hair then towel it over and leave it for several hours before washing it out. i generally go through about 3 jars a month or more...

I love coconut oil! There is an awesome recipe somewhere on here for white chocolate goji berry fudge that is excellent!
Also I have noticed when you massage it on veggies it softens them. There is a broccoli curry recipe where you massage the broccoli with like a tbsp. of coconut oil and curry powder. Let it sit to let marinate and it gets softer! Delicious!
