Its about zero degrees out. Does anyone else live in a cold climate and have trouble staying warm? How long does it take, if ever, for your body to feel warm? Well, I am used to eating really hearty, high-calorie cooked foods during the winter, so this is really hard for me right now. I should be getting enough fat and calories, but it still feels like I need something to warm me up. I wonder if its worth it to go the full 30 days sometimes.

Lots and lots of hot green tea! I know some don't do hot tea...because of the heating process. It really helps though.
I also use a lot of warming spices like cinnamon, ginger, garlic etc.
Also, do you have a dehydrator? I love things warm right out of the dehydrator.

i went raw during a fall , michigan , and when january hit i was freezing .
and i asked and everyone said initially when converting to raw alot of people get this .
one person suggested an iodine deficiency could be the cause and to take kelp tablets or dried kelp for it which helped . but couldnt stand the taste .
another thing that warms me up is ginger tea , and yarrow tea . yarrow makes me so warm i cant drink it in summer or i'll bake .

Well, I feel like if I let myself endulge in hot tea, I might as well endulge in any other hot food... I am also not using a dehydrator because when I eat dehydrated stuff, it just feels the same as cooked stuff. Plus, mine is too hot. Thanks for the suggestion though. :)
The last warm meal I had was when I made a raw lasagna and wrapped it up in plastic wrap and left it by my heater over night. The spinach wasn't wilted, so that was my test to see if it had gotten to hot.

What about just hot water - not tea?

Thanks Cassidy, I have thought about trying that... I am wondering if it would shock my system some how since I haven't had anything that warm in so long... maybe I should try it.

LOL No.... Your internal body temp is already nice and toasty. Probably no more shocking than a hot bath.
Maybe just do luke warm if you're worried.

Your totally right! I think I am going to start drinking a few cups of warm water. That should really help. Thanks!

Hi- I live even further north than you-Mackinaw. Yes- it's big time cold right now.
I do the hot herbal tea-& hot water with lemon & raw honey.
I find that cayenne, curry, ginger in anything I make-esp soups warmed make a big difference.
Also- I need heavier nut pate type meals in the winter.
Hope this helps..Just remember-Spring is just around the corner...LOL ;)

I eat lots of olives (and sometimes nuts). I also eat lots of smoothies, even though they're cold.

I'm in Maine and am forever cold (I said this in another post) so hot tea is a MUST for me, I would turn into an icicle without it...going to go make some right now!!

christiahall,
I've been cold too since I went raw. But for last 3 weeks now I've been using cayene pepper and adding kale leaves in my liquid salad - and I've been warm again it's super cool :D

Hello :D
I live in Canada. Very cold! RAW was killing me, because I used to be about 15-20lbs heavier, until I finally got used to the cold. I love warm herbal tea, cayenne pepper, warm water, and HOODIES!!! Also, keep active. Try yoga in the morning. It really gets your circulation going, and I find that within a few minutes, I could be doing my yoga naked in the snow and still be warm. Doing a few stretches in the day (Touch those toes!) also really helps.
I cannot stand cold things out of the fridge, unless it's a dip or something. I really hate HATE cold bell peppers and tomatoes, so I leave everything on the counter for a few hours before hand.
My suggestions ^_^ Everyone else has great ones too!
The cold was really bothering me at first, but isn't anymore. Not sure why, since it's even colder out now and I spend a lot of time outdoors. If I get chilled feeling, I take a hot bath :)

Exercising helps a lot. Get up and do some jumping jacks and you will feel warm in no time! :-)
All the best,

wow, great suggestions, everyone! I'm in Michigan too, and the temp is ridiculous, but for some reason I'm ok with it. Exercise helps a lot. I bet lemon, honey and cayenne tea (master cleaner hot, except with honey instead of maple syrup) would be good too!

Well I live in Ontario Canada and right our temps are well above - 15 and it's so cold you cannot go out longer than a min without freezing your arse. I try to stay in doors as much as possible.
I naturally don't have good circulation in my hands and sometimes feet but if I eat flax or spinach I warm up fast although not for very long

It's been very cold in my area lately. :o What I do is wear more clothing. And when I'm cold at home, I would usually skin brush and then take a warm bath. This usually helps me.
I also find that if I am just coming from outside(which is extremely cold)... I'll stay that cold until I take a warm bath. It's kind of odd. :D

dido...i feel like this is the coldest i've ever been, i'm fairly hot natured, it's been insanely cold here negative 30 degrees some mornings, my car wouldn't start. i have increased my kale(juice) and cayenne consumption as well, also to include lots of garlic, ginger, curry...
i never stopped drinking hot tea, there's just no way i could do it, nor do i want to right now...
i also do lots of ashtanga yoga to warm my core.
the best of life, meredith

Thanks for all your advice! As it turns out, my furnace was out (I'm such a blond) so that wasn't helping at all. We stayed at my sisters house for 3 days, and now that I am back, I feel fine!

(Yeah... you should have seen me grabbing all my fruits and veggies as I was walking out the door.)
