1) Why do raw nuts bother my digestion so much and heated ones do not?
Is it the enzyme inhibitors? If so, why doesn't soaking or taking enzymes help?

2 ) Are most macadamia nuts raw, unless otherwise specified? Macs and Walnuts are the only nuts that consistently do NOT bother my stomach, regardless of whether I buy the expensive raw food brand ones or the cheap ones at the grocery store. I know walnuts are normally sold raw, and since macs (like walnuts) aren't specified as raw or not, it makes me think that macs must normally come raw, too. Is this true?

3) Almonds (raw or soaked) hurt my stomach terribly, but almond milk I tolerate just fine. Why would this be?

4) I know this is a dreadful question, but what are the best sources of protein and calories on a raw diet if I can't tolerate nuts?

If you soak almonds for 3 days and dehydrate for 3 days you take away 30 to 40 per cent of the fat and they will digest like a vegtable, that may be your solution. You could also have diverticlitis which is small pits in your intestine and when you eat nuts they get caught and cause problems. Have your self checked. They say everyone after 60 gets it. But it is usually from a lifetime of eating no fiber. Chew 30 times before you swallow.

Nunie -

I am interested about the decrease in fat with the almonds. Is there somewhere I could read more about that?

Also Svadhyaya -

most macadamias are dried as they are quite moist when shelled and could become moldy quickly if not refrigerated. Unfortunately, most macs you buy in the store are not refrigerated.
