What can anyone tell me about maca? I've read the general explanation of it but I want to know the real scoop from the experts......YOU GUYS!

Thanks.

I use maca every day. I started taking it for hot flashes. It might be helping, but I am taking a menopause formula too so I don't know.
I have ordered it from rain-tree. com. This time though, I needed some olives and things from rawfoods.com so I decided to try theirs and compare. The price from raw foods is better. I have heard there are different grades, that's why I want to try another brand. If this is supposed to get rid of hot flashes though, mine should have been gone a long time ago.
At rawfoods ,com you can get an 8 oz size for $12.00, or a larger size. I got the 8 ounces to try out.
The way I have used it:
2 tablespoons in a cup of almond milk , and lately I blend a banana or a peach or anything soft like that with the 2 tablespoons of maca, some hemp seeds and a small handful of goji berries. This has some real staying power.

:D big grins marigold :D

the stickshift is the gearstick in English right :)

I LOVE MACA TOO!!
I used to have it a while back (for fertility) and I thought it was yuck, now I can't get enough of it - i'm POURING it into my puds at the moment, good stuff - I think it's a sign my body wants it now, praps it wasn't ready for it then. Plus I never used to like the malty taste when I was cooked, now I do!

I'm using it to re-mineralise me and to balance my hormones, if I get the aphrodisiac effect too I will be happy ;) I have been having it for about a week and half now, LOADS of it and just today I felt like I could reduce the amount (didn't fancy as much) I feel like i'm detoxing and having a healing e'episode' right now and I reckon the maca along with the superfood and and enyzmes i'm having has helped this happen

I just bought the maca extreme from Nature's First Law.....they said a serving is about 1/4 tsp as it is more concentrated. I had it for the first time yesterday and it was good. I'm very hopeful about it's benefits for peri-menopausal hormonal imbalances, thyroid, depression and low libido....sounds like a dance.....oops, that limbo.....sorry. being silly :p The almond milk idea w/ banana sounds wonderful. I usually add carob but maca might be good......like the old chocolate malts I used to love.

I used it for awhile but never found any difference with it.

It was expensive here - and for me, not worth the price to continue to take it.

I have not noticed any difference. Here's a site www.peruvian-maca.com
Thunderdancer swears by it.

I was taking Maca as I posted earlier, but I've stopped. I didn't notice any difference. I started eating 80-10-10 (80%fruit, 10% vegetables, 10% fat) a week ago and I noticed a definite decrease in hot flashes and their intensity.
I had bought the maca from natures First Law. I have bought it from rain-tree.com before and wanted to see if another 'brand' made a difference..no difference.

I've had the same experience Jeanne. Since doing 80/10/10 I've had no hot flashes, minimal PMS....so far so good.

How do you keep track of the 80/10/10??

That's really good to hear lil! I was hoping this abatement of hot flasheswas for real and not just an isolated episode. What do you think it is about 80-10-10 that has made that shift? I have only been doing this since Oct. 1 but I noticed the difference right away.

The percentages are measured by calories Kristi. So, if you eat 2000 calories a day, 200 is vegetables, 200 fats and 1600 is fruit.
You can go to fitday.com to help calculating what you eat in a day, but I used a book for the first few days until I knew how to judge portions. The first couple of days I didn't even reach 1000.Greens are extremely low in calories. After I got going I ranged at around 1100 to 1500 a day.
Now I am eating more intuitively. I notice if I have a green lunch I am able to get more greens in than eating fruit all day then a large salad for the eveninmg meal. Because I am home the next couple of days I'll make green soups for lunch. At work I'll bring salads.
